Please respond to the current controversy about your travels/the Minerva requirements to travel. Most comments were written by long time viewers such as myself and I doubt anyone wants to harm you or your internet persona. However, admitting mistakes and genuinely talking about it is super important when you have such a big audience. When you adressed the matter a few videos ago, to me it seemed insincere, as if you were almost laughing while saying you feel guilty. Honesty and holding yourself accountable is so important, way more than upholding the image of permanent casual magic and exciting adventures.

Hey Jade! Just a reminder that you should be clarifying when something is an advertisement as the UK law requires you to do. I have noticed in a few videos now that you have advertised products but stated it in a very subtle way, so people (including myself) did not notice it to be an advertisement. Many of your fans may not think for this to be a problem, but the law is there for a reason, and it is important to be respectful to your consumers and let them know that they're being advertised to.

But she quietly deleted any mention of course credits in the description, after claiming they would be in jeopardy, unless she completed the semester in South Korea. She also failed to clarify why some of her cohort were able to attend online classes in their home countries. While in her case, it was apparently "less her choice and more her uni's choice" that she had to be in Seoul. What makes her so different from her peers? Is she suggesting Minerva was placing undue pressure on her, and only her, to travel in the midst of a global pandemic? If so, that is f**ked up. There are Minerva students attending classes in France, Turkey, and Bali. Why did they not cry foul about course credits, and being pressured to travel?

hey jade I am really disappointed in the dishonesty and Switzerland situation. we know from other Minerva students that you have not been forced to travel but had a choice. you also said that being there was tied to your credits but then you removed this from your description. Even a current Minerva student commented on your last video and said that people are studying remotely and have a choice, and personally thinks you should have stayed in Europe to set a good example. Guys, I get your point and I agree on a certain level. But it seems to me that we are ignoring an important thing: it’s hard having to deal with this constant scrutiny that a platform like youtube puts you in. If she was a normal non-famous person, she wouldn’t have to deal with thousands of deprecative comments. It’s a lot to handle. It was not entirely necessary for her to travel, but she’s now in a two week quarantine and being double tested. As for her trip to Switzerland: I think it’s important to address the situation, but please, we should stop making more and more comments stating that we’re angry and disappointed. We are catalysing our frustration on her when we ourselves or the people we love have probably sometimes played with the rules too, with or without us knowing. I think we’re putting her through a lot of stress. I’m not saying her behaviour is completely justified, I’m only saying that we should be more compassionate. She already knows we’ve raised the issue, now let it be up to her what she’ll do next.

I'm sorry about this but your situation isn't a common thing for everyone. She is able to study in Korea, well, go for it while being careful. I don't know, why canceling a year abroad when you have the opportunity to do it because there are other people who cannot? I know many students at my university couldn't go in Erasmus either but I could because my university decided it was okay. Did I quarantine? Yes. Do I follow the restrictions? Yes. And plus more I didn't go back to my native country for Christmas. Studying abroad won't cause more damage than going back and forth from a country to another because you'll quarantine at your arrival and you'll stay for a longer time than just a tourist. So, again, I'm really sorry for you but please don't let your frustration creates hate towards people whose university let study abroad.

Looking forward to learn even more about linguistics. :) I hope you'll have a great term! And that you can enjoy your time there. I understand that you might feel uncomfortable being able to travel whilst many can't but I do believe a lot of people would've made the same choice. And that it may be that people feel frustrated because they are not in a position to make that choice like you were. But really, I know a lot of students that traveled abroad and I also have a lot of exchange students in my year. I think it's important to wish other people well these times and not project your own anger or frustration at someone just because that person was actually able to do something you were not. I decided to start studying 'Geoscience' this year after finishing my a-levels. This will be a hugeee challenge for me as the first terms require a lot of maths, physics and chemistry which are all subjects I was never that good at at school, some of them I even dropped. But I‘m really interested in Geoscience so I‘m willing to accept the challenge :) so I understand that you‘re nervous about taking a course you know you are not YET good at, you got this!

I know that Bremen offers electives in English (Geoscience), Munich and Heidelberg have some courses in English as well but are very expensive cities, Greifswald offers similar masters degrees (earth science) and (Landscape Ecology and Nature Conversation), Bremen has lots of English master degrees about Geoscience as well... but I don‘t know of a bachelor degree that is fully in English, sorry :(

Genuine question, I'm very curious how long the christmas break lasts in the UK and the US? I live in the Netherlands and we only have two weeks (one week with christmas, one with new year's) and then it's instantly back to uni, but I feel like most US and UK youtubers I watch have way longer breaks? In my uni (in Britain) we are starting and we ended on the same dates as you but we did our exams before christmas. I think it's quite common to do your exams before christmas in Scotland too.

Literally feel so disheartened by these comments that are neither nuanced or reflective, and just want to join in on cancelling someone. Why don't people believe the necessity of Minerva students to go to South Korea in order to get credits for their course? This is a perfectly good reason given that Minerva does require their students to live in 7 cities. Yes, some Minerva students have decided to stay at home, but I distinctly remember jade saying that 'anyone that can get a visa goes', which points to the possibility that if you can get a visa, they still prefer you to go, and that those that really cannot get a visa probably has to take some supplementary course to make up for it. Do they not know that South Korean government stringently checks each entry one by one to approve them? And that of course they would know it is an online uni from a simple Google search?? And that the fact that they approved Minerva students to go over shows how it is 'necessary'? I think we can allow jade the benefit of the doubt here, especially when we don't know the full circumstances. People are out here cancelling jade when they've probably broken the rules numerous times, but luckily they don't have thousands of people scrutinising their every action. And really, why are people putting the blame on jade, when if the trip really is unnecessary, they should be questioning her university instead? She's not glamourising travel, she literally going to South Korea to study, unlike influencers akin to Molly Mae going to dubai. She honestly tries her best and deserves to have a little compassion; everyone's decisions and actions under this pandemic all hasn't been perfect.

Yes she is quarantining here because the government have forced her to, but she travelled to Switzerland for no reason (as the situation is Germany and Switzerland was getting much worse again) and didn’t quarantine there or back, and is attending an ONLINE university in a different country - what is the need when people with in-person university can’t even attend it in the same country they live in?

Unpopular opinion apparently : traveling for school or work during these times is okay, as long as you are careful and follow the guidelines of the country you are entering. First quarantine, get tested twice, then stay inside as much as possible, restrict your contacts and always pay attention to your health and if you are showing symptoms, contact your local health office.

No one is debating that generally - but Jade's case is quite different as her uni is entirely online anyway and doesn't have any on-campus facilities that she would require access to.

@@killergriffel I actually feel like a lot of comments are criticising her for it and I think that your schoolsystem asking for you to move every semester is a valid reason. We don't know everything and we as an audience have no right to demand for an explanation. Even if Minerva didn't force their students to move, maybe her appartement could not be rented longer or maybe she already had made arrangements in South Korea ? We are not moving with her. And that's also an important point, she is moving, not traveling. She won't cross the border again in two weeks, so that after her quarantine, she won't represent a higher risk then an other south korean resident. She's living there, not travelling from one touristic place to the next and leaving Seoul after 5 days, so I really think its a non-issue.

I don't know if you are from Germany or some part of Europe close too Switzerland, but if you take a car and drive down to an isolated cbbing in the Swiss alpes, you will not be in direkt contact with anybody on the way. Is it a wise, necessary thing to do in current times? Obviously not, especially beeing a public figure, but it's not illegal and also - if done right and done responsably - it's not dangerous for anyone involved. Therefore I think we should leave her alone and not mingle in stuff we don't know the ins and outs of.
