7 HOURS INTENSIVE TAALIM SESSION FOR 4 CONSECUTIVE DAYS
1. Early morning Swara Sadhana - 6am to 7am
2. Khayal - 10am to 1pm
3. Purab ang Thumri - 5pm to 7pm
4. Listening session for analysing and understanding the recordings of great Masters - 8pm to 9pm

ABOUT PURAB ANG :
Vidushi Manju Sundaram.
Thumri is the most popular form of light classical music /semi classical music. The essence of thumri is the expression of emotions (chiefly love and devotion ) through as many extempore and aesthetic musical varieties of the words as possible. Thumris can be interpreted, presented both ways -to express spiritual yearning as well as romantic longing on a mundane plane.
Thumri singing is the art of expressing or conveying the meaning of the lyrics or the words, the connotations and the delicate nuances through intense and acute hints and suggestions, interpreting the word content in all their emotive shades. The Purab Ang thumri which flourished in the eastern regions of North India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, is characterised by grace, tenderness and delicate tonal embellishments. The lyrics are mostly in the dialects of those regions. Purab Ang thumri charms with its exquisite simplicity and is an ideal blend of musical note -combinations and emotional contents enshrining a series of emotions such as despair, helplessness, agony and ecstasy and devotion. Although thumris are sung and are based on classical ragas, they are not as demanding as dhrupad or khayal in matters of adherence to the purity of the raga which gives infinite scope to the artiste to indulge himself and to delve into the unfathomable depths of ANANDA, Bliss.
