Not cruel, simply insane - as in unmoored from reality in a very fundamental sense. It's like that bit near the end of Charles Dickens' Bleak House where Guppy's mother gets mad that Esther turned down Guppy's offer of marriage, and thereafter orders her loudly to get out of the house (her guardians own house) or she would have her thrown out! 🤣 SIL can plead pregnancy all she wants, I'd just tell her to fume if she can't be grateful - because it can always get worse if the OP decides to notify the guest of SIL's perfidy and ingratitude. BIL pressed his wife for answers as to why OP couldn't attend the Baby shower in her own home. She wanted to start a business after the pregnancy; Her plan was to kick OP out so that she could claim that the Large and luxurious house was hers to impress this friend into convincing her rich husband to invest in her future business. That particular friend was the only one not to show up cause of Sickness. It wasn't really about "Close Family", SIL couldn't claim it was her house with OP there. This was the final straw for BIL, cause SIL keeps spending money on luxury items behind his back that are beyond her means just to impress her "Friends". He's tired of her constantly trying to impress these "Friends" like a high schooler who couldn't be seen without the latest iPhone, The Tote Bag or Lululemon.

I do too. But I also think OP is a little selfish too. She doesn't care of Jim wants a divorce. She doesn't care if he'll still be a good dad. She's thinking purely of the child which normally I would say is a good thing! Except she isn't doing it for the kid. She's doing it because she herself wants her reality to be the one that happens on her own beliefs. Considering how in the end she tacks on with "and that is how it is going to be." As if to say that's the end of it. Except they're still seperated for now and doing co-parenting right now until they are sure it will work so OP isn't even sure they will stay together but simply trying to will it into being so by saying "that's how it's going to be." It also read as a validating update too. As if to say "nyah nyah redditors, I was right." But truthfully? I think the child could still potentially suffer if the parents are at each others throats

Summary, the aunt was depressed too and the current wife keeps trying to justify herself by using her past depression as an excuse everytime. Might miss some, but off the top of my head it feels like some people just go through these cycles all their lives, thanks to enablers. Its never too early or too late to start nipping it in the bud. Get over it/it could've been that bad, they are younger than you; give some respect - they are older than you and need/deserve it more (both last practically an eternity if allowed). Excuses for not confronting, adressing and blocking others (usually victims) from dealing with it, or even mentioning: they are young and will grow out of it, how DARE you 'bully' a child, they are teen and will grow out of it, you are not their parent, they are pregnant/had X happen give them a break, its not your/family business, they are from different times/cultures/backstory you should be understanding/ignore it, they are too old to change - respect your elders. One cushion just gets replaced with another when its many years of time limit runs out and some people just grow more twisted and entitled.

Hard to enforce something like that without a contract. OP'd have to quickly write something out (or just text it to her--some US states are counting that as legally binding agreements, now, apparently) and then strong-arm her into agreeing right then or else OP would turn all guests and vendors away. But personally I still wouldn't leave the house to a bunch of strangers with only an untrustworthy relative-in-law to watch things.

Imo this does not warrant a divorce. Marriage counseling? 💯💯 a separation? Maybe, that might be stretching it; but a divorce? Definitely not. I don't see any form of financial abuse, simply someone very irresponsible trying too hard for the sake of other people. I swear, people are getting married and divorced for any and all the wrong reasons nowadays... I believe the only reason someone should warrant a divorce is abuse (any kind, mental, emotional, physical, financial), falling out of love, and cheating (any kind again). You know, of you binge these Telltales videos, you start to realize that not only are they double-dipping by uploading the same audio on multiple channels (wth.reddit), they're also reusing the same gameplay videos with different audio.
