The reason Kratos doesn’t mutilate Hiemdall within two seconds is a cinematic reason, The director wanted you to see Mimir fall beside them and trying and converse with Kratos, the strangling was a method to draw out time for dialogue because if it were a GOW3 style death there’s no room for it and you’d be distracted by a showy death.

HOT TAMALE TAKE: ps2 God of War 1 is better then ps3 God of War 1, ps2 incentivizes you to do combos by giving you orbs if you QTE a Minotaur or Gorgon while having 10 or more hits, it incentivizes you to try out the Blade of Artemis since if give you 5 orbs per kill with 10+ hits. It makes you think more about how you want to approach an encounter. ps3 version is only better for being HD and being in proper wide screen (even then, the cut scenes are still cropped at the top and bottom) which is something that can be replicated with an emulator. If they ever port the game again they need to fix that stuff.

Hot Take: I really like the Freya boss fight, especially not knowing the Valkyrie is her. It was such a shock to me because you didn't know if it was Odin or what, I just know I seen a video or something talking bad about the fight. I think the Norse series of games is at their best when something disrupts Kratos. Examples: The dragon fight, Baldur 1, The cutscene/fighting on the dragon section against Baldur, Baldur knocking Kratos and Atreus out of Jormangander, Magni and modi fight, dark elf king fight in 2018, the previously mentioned Freya fight, the double Valkyrie fight, both Heimdall fights, the fight with Freya against the giant awesome gecko (sorry forgot his name.), Both Thor fights, the fight against Atreus as a bear, etc.

Hot take: I feel like people overcriticized the little nitpicks we had with the game way too much. I played it all the way through once when it first came out, enjoyed it a lot, but then I went online and everyone was shitting on some aspect of the game and I was like "yeah I see, I guess it wasn't that great". Now I'm playing the game again on GMGOW difficulty with all the criticism in mind and honestly despite all the flaws, this is still absolutely one of the best games released in the last few years. I guess what I'm trying to say is we took all the great things in the game for granted (incredible combat mechanics and variety, perfect balance, unbelievable boss variety, great regular combat encounters and combat arena design, really good puzzles even though it was kinda ruined by the hints, great character work, etc.). Really can't wait for the next game.

I think gna is slightly harder because for sigrun, all her attacks are ones youve already seen. Meanwhile gna uses some newer attacks. Now it is possible that hrist and mist or even freya maybe used those attacks too but I didnt notice it. felt like gna had new moves to learn how to counter

Hot take: Ragnarok's NG+ felt very bad. We can't skip walky talkies, nor Atreus sections. They added 4 whole new upgrades to the weapons but didnt change their appearance, and there are a lot of stupid errors in scenes like when Kratos grabs invisible Blades Of Chaos. I thought we would have at least a new boss and a new weapon for taking that long. And while I understand not having new things due to it being "hard", Ill nevee understand not skipable things like Atreus sections and walky talkies. We are not even able to change companions in open world, just in the arena.

not saying I didn't like the actual version or that I was disappointed. I liked how it played out, story-wise and mechanics-wise. I liked the run to the wall of Asgard at the start while fighting monsters, and with the cool-ass music playing in the background, How they combined both Kratos and Atreus gameplay and how the bosses played out mechanically. It's just that it felt weird how it played out compared to the first fight with Thor. As destructive as Thor and Kratos are and Mjolnir and Leviathan Axe being on par, I was expecting it to be somewhat similar to the first Thor fights cinematically. Same with Odin, also was expecting him to use more magic than he did. But it's fair enough, the PS4 might not have taken all of it.

Tbh the way i interpretid the kratos backstory dialogue is that kratos is looking back with the mentality that everything is the fault of his anger even tough the current kratos prob still would go trough the same journey. Less bloody but he would defo still burn down olympus sinds its a side effect of zeus' bad doings coming back to hurt him. Another thing that makes me think that is the deimos dialogue. Deimos and he made up quickly once deimos came to his senses. With this I can see kratos still thinking that his brother still hated him even tough as the all seeing player we see that he is wrong

Also about gna vs sigrun is that sigrun is way stronger. I never beat sigrun in gow4 while I straight up killed gna at the 2nd highest difficulty with 4 attempts. This could be because of the better controlls but I genuinly think that they just made kratos too strong in ragnarok. Even my friend who played gow4 before 5 said how easy everything was sinds kratos' strenght is way higher in 5

I ran trough the game using a rage build (punches) so I used nothing but that and the enemies still barely became a challenge. Also I dont get the tanky enemy thing in ragnarok. Only way I see that happening is if they don't regulary upgrade their armor and weapons

Hot take: they should really have made the past of Kratos impact the story in a meaningful way. They actually set a pretty nice ground to work on in 2018, but here it seems that they were really afraid to explore his past and how it affects his present and future. All we have is some nice fan service which is cool the first time ig but I really needed more. Idk they could make atreus find out about his old family and set some interesting discussions or some dramatic confrontation along those lines, it doesn’t have to be something big like zeus coming back and teaming up with odin.

@@xxiii262 yeah maybe but while 2018 really felt like a valid entry in the series, bringing real confrontations with his past, this one doesn’t even feel like a Kratos game, more of an Atreus one. Everything that happened before was just a nice story to hear while walking to the next objetive, and it makes Kratos feel much more of a reactive supporting cast than the protagonist. I wonder if this is the direction they’re heading, completely forgetting where Kratos came from and just focusing on “new nordic/other mythologies stuff”.

in God of war ragnarok they missed lots of things that would of been super cool and people that are very important but not shown in the game, for example one of the most talked about things in norse myth is the bifrost bridge that we see when we climb hrimthers wall as atreus and we never see it in use, they could of added the god njord, as they already have a runic attack called njords tempest, vidar, another god that was very close to thors power and strength that would of been a unreal fight before thor, vale, a man who avenged baldurs death and would of been a amazing fight after we killed baldur and a ton more stuff, but im still EXTREMELY happy with how good God of war ragnarok was.

The "I burned Olympus to the ground" in context is different than what You may think I too was confused for an instant, but when You think about it Kratos was explaining to Freya how vengenge wouldn't make her happy or satisfied Sure, he didn't destroyed Olympus just because of his family, but the fact of being tricked by Ares to kill his family changed him for the worse to the point where in GoW2 he couldn't stand it anymore and vent all of that hatred on the Gods He never said it was the reason but that he wasn't in peace with himself despite venting so much by the end like he initially thought

Hot take: Charon in Chains of Olympus is an easy boss fight and NOT as hard as everyone makes him out to be. I've seen people claim that he's one of the hardest fights in the whole game expect I played Chains of Olympus for the first time at the start of this year and on hard mode and minus the first time you fight him where your meant to lose anyway he's really not that hard. His attacks are predictable and easy to see coming and can be parried quite easily. Kind of disappointing for a character who's the ferryman of the Underworld and in mythology is able to kick major ass with nothing but a paddle! Now Persephone on the other hand, that IS the hardest fight in Chains of Olympus for me!

Hot take: Odin bossfight was trash, the thor boss fight was MILES better than Odin. The thing hat he doesn't have many moves and most of them are ranged attacks sucks. Having more brutality to get to Odin(getting Gjallarhorn) than "killing" him is stupid, i would have preferred if kratos did something like gow 4 at least, i still liked the sindri fatality tho.

A REALLY hot take: I hate how SMS tried to mess up kratos masculine character, like how did faye casually just say "good boy" to kratos? How had she fought thor and he was having a struggle, or how she was about to chop kratos's head of???? Kratos is a damn god of war who had olympus crumble on his name alone, you're telling me this no-one was about to kill him? And how did freya catch him off guard on their fight!??!?!?!? Or just say "this is the point where i forgive you or i kill you and kratos just stands there like (🧍) is just stupid imo. And many other examples but thats enough really.

Hot take: god of war ghost of Sparta has the most boring combat throughout the series. It’s not bad, but just feels boring (even with the arms of Sparta) compared to the rest. Maybe I’m just bad, idk.
