The teacher sounds like a dick, but has a bit of a point. I like TND reviews and my music taste and opinion aligns with Anthony's about 70% of the time, but Anthony always reiterates that these reviews are his opinion and he clearly gives certain albums certain scores based on his pre-existing like/hate of artists/bands. I'm not saying other reviewers haven't been vindictive in their reviews based on their own opinions, but editorial-type reviews are typically moderated by a group even though a single name appears on a review. Anthony isn't a traditional critic, and in that sense I guess he isn't a "serious" critic... but in the age of the internet, people need to wake up to the realization that this is the most modern and accessible way to digest reviews.

I thought of this too, but it also makes me think of Duchamp ("it's art if I say so") and the presentation of the banal as art, right? Like this was a hot topic of the visual arts world for years, where simply artistic intent was sufficient to make something art even thought the artist didn't have a hand in creating every aspect of it. In field recordings anyway the artist still has to decide what to record, how to record it, how to master it, how to present it to listeners, etc.
@seanberrodin8012 жыл бұрын
I know I'm super late but I don't see how field recordings don't fit within this definition of music. In order to record any sound, you have to organize said sound into something archivable. Granted, it's not the most complex and exciting of organizations but it is still more organized than the split-second sound itself that occurs once and is never collected. And the artistic intent in field recordings is clear based on the countless published examples of field recordings. Whatever is published is the intent behind the art. I've always had a very wide definition of what music is and I've made loads of people mad with what I consider music, but I think that definition is a very good one. If it is recorded sound I believe it fits this definition and therefore is music. But then is an audio book music? I guess it is? It makes sense to me.

@ the singles comment. I definitely feel that. While it doesn't detract from the music as a whole; I feel like part of the joy of album listening is *discovering* tracks that get tucked away behind the singles. Often times they end up being my favourite songs from the album, the hidden gems. When you've heard the entire album already there's a bit of magic lost. You already know everything about it, there's very little left to discover. I felt this heavily with Illy's album The Space Between that dropped earlier this year because I already knew which tracks were my favourites. Hell, I'd already been listening to them for nearly two years. So I get it, but it's def not always the case.

Or at least that's what I gather from what i see around me online. So the song doesn't make sense to be incelcore as it never calls out women for those features. In fact, it calls out women in a completely diff category and therefore make no sense to be called incelcore. Criticizing a generation of women does not make you an incel, no matter how hard people try to warp or make up their own definitions for it. The only rational thought to calling this "incelcore" is the singular line of "I'd still hit it if I could", and that's a weak line to draw.

The first thing is to separate music from art. There are many amazing and creative artists that wrote memorable artistic statements without being great composers (rappers, singer\songwriters etc.). Anyone can create art, anyone can produce a creative output. There are obviously people who are more creative than others but art is 100% subjective. When you look at music from a composers perspective, thing might look different. Because of how inspiration works, if you'll try to compose original music without any skill or pesonal talent, you will probably come up with undeveloped motives and ideas that you took from your past, from your subconscious. While many popular culture musicians never studied composition and trusted their own talents, I think that there are many skills and tools to be found in taking composition lessons. I would like to hear the opinions of other composers here

Completely agree with your opinion on reviewing music the way you wish to. Not pandering and enjoying what you enjoy. Some people may hate your opinions on certain reviews, I know I have for one disagreed with opinions you may have on albums I really enjoy - although that never stints my objectivity towards your input which more times than not, helps shape my views and then also helps me discover music I would not have even thought to give the time of day. So besides the fact, some people may wish real harmful and derogative aspects upon your life, I for one, respect and admire you, keep safe melon and keep doing you

Singles released before the album comes out can ruin some of the experience. The only time I'm ever upset about though is when a band releases the absolute best of the album or when 5 of the 12 tracks are released.

2:50 Listening to singles can definitely nullify a first-time album-listening experience. However, it usually doesn't mean much to me. However, when an artist releases the final song of their album as a single before the album is even released (I'm looking at you, Gorillaz), that's when you know the listening experience will be ruined. Why would an artist spoil the ending to their new album?

What I mean is this is the video series on both of your channels I watch every episode of.

"Now I suggest to you that a group of us could be sitting around after dinner, discussing matters that were extremely serious like the education of our children, or our marriages, or the meaning of life (and I’m not talking about the film), and we could be laughing, and that would not make what we were discussing one bit less serious. Solemnity, on the other hand, I honestly don’t know what it’s for. I mean, what is the point of it? The two most beautiful memorial services that I’ve ever attended both had a lot of humor and it freed us all and made the services inspiring and cathartic. But solemnity, it serves pomposity and the self-important always know, at some level of their consciousness, that their egotism is going to be punctured by humor. That’s why they see it as a threat." I agree with the singles take, it happened to me with Igor and his teaser tracks, i was expecting a hardcore hip hop album like the song ''What's Good'' was but the experience was completely different and it ruined my opinion on the album.
