Holy Cow ... I didn't think anybody else knew about this one. I have been gathering info, plans, drawing and photos to build an 18 inch version for about 5 years. I've been thinking this one would be good with flaps for low speed and STOL.

@@TimMcKay56 I have a number of a/c that I have been doing similar research on. The Messerschmidt M 33 looks like a LOT of fun ... and might be good for a beginner builder/flyer. I build and I plan ... but I don't know how to fly. Also, transmitter costs are a bit beyond me.

There was a good article on the L-15 in Sport Aviation a few years ago that brought it to slightly wider attention. Last I saw, the only remaining aircraft was for sale along with a boatload of spare parts.

I built a balsa version using a plan from Outzone. It was my first attempt at a balsa model. Slightly different to your design but with your basic ideas. It has flown once and now hangs waiting in my garage. It is a bit tricky to fly in the wind just waiting for the right calm day. Like the idea of setting up flaperon which would be easy on my transmitter. I live in Christchurch in New Zealand. Being an island surrounded by an awful lot of ocean we don't get many calm days!

My son works for a warbird restoration company. They have three L-15s they are restoring, one is the prototype. Been thinking about building one, now that i see how well it flies, I’m going to have to get one built.

Nice plane Tim. I think a thicker fire wall with screws would have worked fine. Bolts definitely belt and braces 😊. The only other thing is I'd mount the aileron servos on their sides embedded in wing, save a bit of weight and reduces drag. Still a nice plane and flew very nicely.

Mark: Thanks for checking in. I recall back in the day that blind nuts were standard for mounting engines in a plywood firewall. Of course the gas motors had far more vibration. And good point on the embedded servo. This was more a proof of concept design. The second one (as I did with my second Bronco) always a lot better. Tim

Lol, Tim I'm working on a micro gym flyer for this coming weekend (1 April 23) and considered the L19. I'm doing a Bearhawk experimental though, as I thought it might be a little easier. 395mm wingspan, 2s power.

I'm sure you know already ... but I just checked to see if light grey or silver foam board was available and it is. It's cheap enough ... maybe you could build another ... maybe a bit lighter and having a correct fuselage size & shape. It's a real shame only a handful of real ones were built and they were not adopted by the A/F. I'll bet they were a lot of fun to fly. Having the GIB as a tail gunner would be cool too!😉

@@TimMcKay56 Thank you very much Tim, I do have 1 more question, in the plan, you said the factor would be 5.8, and one half of a wing is about 22 inches according to the build plan. Does that mean half a wing would be 2.5 meters? Something doesn't add up. Thanks in advance. Safe travels! 👍
