I'm a freelance artist with experience in the 9-5/corporate art/design scene. I appreciate you being very thoughtful and careful about fanartists' feelings, so here's my nuanced breakdown on the situation. First, non-artists often don't consider that artists have different levels of professionalism & financial dependency on their work. Some fans/hobby artists do it for fun and are happy to just be included, others need to pay bills with their art and have no free time to do what the corporate world call speculative ("spec") work. This is why you see very contrasting opinions. Spec work has been the norm in the corporate world for a long time and everyone in the biz unanimously hates it. You'd spend a week or two preparing a pitch to "potentially" win a contract worth thousands of dollars, but most of the time you lose merely because there are too many competitors. Rinse and repeat for multiple projects, and you end up with hundreds of hours of wasted time before you hit the jackpot. So yes, that's how competitions are "traditionally" run, but most professionals have been pushing against this practice in the recent years. Generally, the acceptable way to do this is by simply soliciting portfolio, saying you're looking to commission someone based on their past work. Do NOT mention your plan/needs, because people with more free time will tailor their "pitch" to fit your needs, skewing the odds to their favor. The pros will see this as spec work. Again, it's really nice though that you're being considerate about this. I think you should just be honest and vulnerable when soliciting portfolio. You can't really please everyone, but you're a kind person. With careful phrasing, people will understand your intentions.

This is great advice. I'm a designer/product photographer also with corporate clients and I don't think I could have said it better. Spec work is the worst and thankfully I'm in a position that doesn't need much of that now, but seeking portfolios is a great way to find the right fit. It also has the potential to minimize hurt feelings, though you can't please everyone. And as someone who as also been an artist in fandom spaces for just as long, I can confirm that the main hangup is the financial dependency (for many it's supplemental income, but fanart commissions are a staple for those who may be in poor living conditions or disabled/unable to work labor). I really appreciate how sensitive and respectful he's being towards that topic. I'm seeing that behavior more often now but it's still a struggle.

An idea for the metro tunnel, instead of having it be under construction, what about having the tunnel be partially collapsed? There could still be room for the the players to get through, maybe even some parkour. It would feel more dystopian, and gives a lore reason for the train to no longer be running.

with the fan art thing, if you asked for peoples art portfolio and commission them from their past work. that way you're not asking them to make something for free for the chance to be paid. by asking for their work they've already done then you know what they can do and they're not working for free.

1:40:45 - I'll back you up on the paper plates, Imp. They're an American thing, so I wouldn't bet on having any kind of support on that trip. Uncoated, non-styrofoam paper plates can absolutely go into the microwave. They can also be composted because they're just straight up paper. I will however, judge you for using one to avoid doing the dishes! The rule is that we only use them for big events and family gatherings, we do not substitute their use to avoid washing a single plate! 😂

I will say that paper plates are a lifesaver on rough days when you're already running on fumes and then realise you don't actually have any clean dishes in the house. Or when your schedule's broken down and you have time to either wash dishes or make yourself something to eat but not both. Or when your partner has promised to do the dishes but hasn't so you use a paper plate and leave the package of them on the counter as silent, light hearted admonishment so they get that "oops" realisation moment but you don't need to be a nag about housework at them.

agree with ​@@akaittou, it's common for disabled people to use paper plates because we can't get to the dishes with everything else we deal with, and not all of us have people who can help. it's not "lazy" to use paper plates. judging people who do this just adds to the shame disabled people already feel for the amount we struggle. be careful if you want to mock/belittle something. you never know if it's the one thing keeping someone from the edge.

2:24:55 my two cents on the custom model stuff (and not at all to harp on Tango at all, I love that the Hermits are all experimenting and trying new stuff) is that it needs to fit the feel of Minecraft still. I am someone who messes with resource packs and such and I never enjoy when textures or models are changed so far that they dont feel like Minecraft anymore. Maybe in the case of the conveyor belts, my issue was the textures more than anything. I think using textures that already exist in the game to sort of convey that the belts were made of materials people are already familiar with would help them be more accepted by the wider audience

This is a good point - I was drifting more into thinking people mostly took issue at the converyor texture because they were going to be all over the factory, the problem then being just how _much_ of the look of the build would have been entirely reliant on custom items/textures instead of vanilla blocks. I remember there was some amount of backlash about the DO2 doors as well last season, but people mostly calmed down once they understood it was about making a special unique focal point, and not something omniplresent in the overall design. Incidentally, this reasoning is why I'm personally iffy on the idea of Impy using custom items for the graffiti despite being an artist myself - it would be a case of custom items being used for a significant part of the overall feeling of a major build. Maybe if it was two or three smallish "tags" that could be sprinkled around among more vanilla solutions just to add a bit of variety, but if the majority of graffiti is just custom items, it wouldn't feel right.

On the subject of art, there will always be backlash, but most of it is just people trying to create drama over nothing. A lot of the people that create drama over this don't understand the fact that a major factor is who you are asking. Think of it this way, if you were moving, and you asked Tango and Skizz to come help you load/unload furniture with you, would you pay them as much as you would a professional moving company? No. You'd probably provide food and drinks and a promise to return the favor one day. The main times that the whole "pay the artist" stuff actually matters is when you've contacted an artist yourself and asked them to work for free, you commission art and then refuse to pay, or when you make a public add looking for artists while offering little/no compensation. The common factor here is that in all of these situations you're asking artists in a professional capacity to work for free. But if your request is aimed someone with some level of social ties to you, then things are completely different, and that includes your community. I'd ask yourself these questions: 1) Are you looking for artwork from a particular person? If yes, then commission it. 2) Are you looking for professional quality artwork? If yes, then commission it. 3) Are you looking for a way to involve members of your community in your content? If yes, then just ask your community if someone wants to submit art for you. You openly asked your twitch chat to consult on building your cyberpunk city, are you going to pay them for that? Of course not, because your purpose was not to get professional consultation, it was to interact with your community.

The Paris Metro in the heart of Paris is the below ground (mostly below ground) subway system. But The Paris Metro also includes light rail and bus service. You may use one or more of these services to travel into, around or out of Paris. I believe in general (like the LA metro) or (SF Bart) you can use a mix. Versus the NYC "subway" which is almost mostly an underground subway. I believe that NYC uses the term NYC transit as equivalent to the Paris Metro moniker.

The ceramic plates we have at my house have a small amount of metal detailing on the rim, so you have to use paper plates in the microwave at my house. Paper plates are the only thing put in my microwave and I have never had an issue.

Not sure if you’ll see this. I miss a lot of your streams simply because of timing (I live in Australia) so I watch the vods. Regarding not finishing your builds… you’re playing Minecraft on YOUR time with YOUR friends building all the things that YOU want to build. So what if they don’t all get finished. I have many occasions where a server I’m playing on has reset and lost epic builds half way through (I’ve discovered I don’t know how to do small projects). Does it suck when a builds not finished? Yeah. I don’t get to share my vision with my friends, and that’s sad. Will it suck for us if you don’t finish a build? Yeah, because we don’t get to see your vision complete… but that’s a US problem, not a YOU problem. You build what you want, as you want, how you want. As for us viewers? We’re just along for the ride. ❤

thanks for keeping bedrock players in mind in your city design. honestly, i don’t think it will be as hard as people think. we’ve gotten some redstone parity stuff in recent years. farms and redstone contraptions were once strictly for one platform or the other but i consistently see more tutorials that can be done on either platform. we don’t want to limit your creativity, so it’s ok if we can’t play every game in the city.

Apparently, some recycled paper products can have bits of metal in them that cause fires in microwave ovens. 😳 Had that happen to me, which was a horrifying revelation, as I’m allergic to metals, on top of their non-safe-ness in the microwave.

At the end of the day, though a different medium, I think you have the perspective of someone who worked for a big company or an employer and then got to a point where you could work for yourself and since you were once like the little guy yourself you look out for the people who are on their own journey whether they're already self sustaining or trying to be.. It takes a lot of time and effort though the medium is different and artists have a technical skill that can't just be learned by anyone (in my opinion as a non artist because if it isn't a skill issue its a patience issue and clearly I am lacking one of them), so I really do appreciate that you take the time to be consider and respectful of all of the people you might work with or interact with etc. You'll never be able to please everyone, but I do love that you try your hardest about things that really matter to you.

Stream lurker/ vod watcher here, I dunno if youve considered this but if you push up the initial start of the game/ adventure/ experience too much, there's a better chance that some of the further along things don't get done since you'd be playing the game with your friends. Kinda like how decked out never got the forge cause tango was always focused on the people playing. Wasn't sure if that was something you'd considered, though I for one will love to see both the game/ builds pushed further, and more content with hermits, so i'll be happy either way

@impulseSV2 i hope you see this. :) 1) that one viewer is totally right you don't have to submit to the "competition" if you don't want to 2) you could put a disclaimer saying if you submit it doesn't mean you will get chosen 3) artist submit to things called "open calls" or "call for artists" all the time. which is similar to what you talk about in this stream, except most of the time you have to pay to submit (i don't think that is what you would do) and it is NOT a guarantee that you artwork gets accepted, and if you do get accepted it does NOT guarantee that your artwork sells so in conclusion I totally support you holding a competition even if i don't submit anything

Hey impluse i would say reach out to Mr.Beardstone about bedrock and what works well for redstone. I know he isnt a redstoner but he has play many years of bedrock and my have some insight! Also i would say go for the custom models as you have way to many projects, and you will burn yourself out. It is something that would work with or without as long as the walls behind are still textured well for the bedrock folks when the models fail.

Some cities call their public transportation metro, some call it subway, bus, or whatever it is. there is no difference really. as for whoever said metro can be above ground... a large part of the subway system in chicago is on the surface. then again chicago also has the same model trains running on an elevated track. Then there is the UK... they call it things like tube and the oh so creative "underground" (sorry to the brits... couldn't resist giving you a hard time there.)

First time postin to ya stream comments (Or any of ya comments.😆 ) Anyways, as a New Yorker (60+ decades) and an old school tabletop Cyberpunk player (30+ years) 😁 Ya gonna want to dirty up that Subway/Metro, iffin ya want it to look the part. Right now, from my perspective, it looks a bit too clean. Some dull lighting would help, some dirtier blocks along the ground, maybe. Cracked walls, stuff like that would give a better feel to a Cyberpunk underground. Just my 2 cents. 😊

as an artist I don't mind you asking the community to do art for you for free. As long as no one is being 'forced' to do it, many of us sometimes need the prompt of what to draw when we aren't sure. Maybe instead of asking the community say. "here's something yall could draw/create." and say if you want it to be used in the server let me know in the description or send it to me. Some of us also don't want to be paid, but would love to see our work in hermitcraft.

Impulse you should put old escalators instead of stairs on the entrance to make it more cyber punky. I also thought it would be really cool to make where the river was a sewer river that connects both sides of the river for the boaters. You shouldn't feel bad about asking artists to submit work. It is the same as asking applicants to interview for a job. Not everyone will get the job, and those who do will receive compensation for the work they do for you. Artists submit work to get work. It's our form of job interview.
