It’s just because the oxidation of the brass causes that green verdigris, the ronsons base metal is brass and so is those bar plumbing fixtures in the restroom, as soon as the chrome or nickel plating is scratched that oxidation goes to work on the brass underneath, same effect can be seen when the same salts attach brass fittings used as hardware on leather.
