I appreciate that these give collectors a chance to own classic dolls without having to fork over hundreds just to buy the vintage versions. Plus, they’re decades old and could break down with age. The reproductions are newer and therefore more durable

80's and 90's Barbies were my childhood, so seeing this milestone make me feel all the feels! Those reproductions are wonderful, I wish Mattel would go back to that level of quality, especially when it comes to clothes.

Superstar Barbie is the first Barbie that invented Barbiecore and the doll that has been the most influential on the Barbie Brand upto today. This was the moment Barbie went PINK. I’m so glad you acknowledged this, a lot of people reviewing this doll seem to ignore how important Superstar Barbie was. Ponytail #1 may have been the first Barbie, but Superstar was the first time Barbie became BARBIE. Plus, this face mold is the most quintessential & longest reigning face Barbie has had, inspired as a smiling version of the Steffie face, and a closed mouth version of superstar was created being the Mackie face which both are still used today ❤

And this is proof that they can still make quality dolls, with non-pixelated faces, decent quality clothes, etc (do they also have snap knees and silicon legs ?) they just chose not to ! They’re so pretty! I kinda wish Christie’s dress was golden instead of yellow for some reason, but then it wouldn’t be like the original.

Yes they have bend and snap knees. You have to keep in mind though that these dolls are for adult collectors nostalgic about their childhood toys

This was when I gave away all my fairly large Barbie Collection 😔. At that time in my life I was very busy and had no appreciation. It wasn't until around 2000 that I started collecting again. I still have an ancient Midge, The Wig headed Barbie and an adorable original Skipper, as well as a decent selection of Vintage Clothes. I wasn't a big Superstar Fan. I have a few in my current collection but not MIB or in original outfits.

I was lucky that this Superstar was one of my first Barbies. I loved her friendly face and glamourous look. One time my aunt was babysitting me, and she gave me some of my older cousin's 60s Barbies to play with. I thought those vintage faces looked so mean and kind of scary. Eventually I got bored with every doll having the same face for years, and I was happy to see the Mackie mold. I like it when older faces get brought back periodically, though.

Superstar Barbie was modeled after the disco trend of the 70's and was made to give a Farrah Fawcett "Charlie's Angel" vibe (a popular show at the time). This was also the first Barbie to have an increased bust size which turned off new wave feminists coming out of the 60's. This was also the decade under President Carter of the oil embargo, which caused Mattel to scale back the quality of construction they had been known for in garments for the doll. Ruth Handler in the late 70's was fined by the Securities and Exchange Commission for forging financial statements which led to her resignation from the company she had created. #BarbieHistory

Great review of these lovely Iconic dolls, Mattel need to take note and start creating good quality dolls like before, but on made to move bodies off course so we can pose a storm with them like we couldn't back in the day LOL.

The reproduction are nice, but if you put the face side by side with the originals, you will see the subtle differences. The original faces are prettier. But like I said, unless you put them side by side to compare you wouldn't know. I grew up with the 80's barbie so that face will always be in my heart as barbie for me.💖

Yeah I think the older ones might have less of a animated vibe than the repro does? Back in the day the face painting was just a bit more dimensional than todays face PRINTING.. I defenitely think the hair is better quality than the older ones 😅🙈 haha

I need to get this doll. I had bought the Superstar Barbie Repo that came out in like 2009 but she looked nothing like the 1977 original; her makeup, hair colour, dress, boa, skin tone, etc. were a bit "off" somehow. This new repo looks identical to the OG Barbie.

I feel like I will be getting ripped off if I buy a reproduction Barbie from 1977 and on since the quality isn't worth the $45 price tag. For $5 more I got the Bowie doll because i'm a big fan of his. I will buy the ones from the 60s because the quality of the dolls back then was great.

There is some nostalgia in the pricing for sure. I think the Barbie Rewind dolls are better value because they come with much more. To someone like me who wants the original look from childhood, though, these reproductions are still much cheaper than the originals.
