I told my daughter and husband, that I’d love to have this doll for Christmas. I had no idea I could get her now. The main reason I want her is bc this is the year I was born. 1977, and bc I had the white one, I still do. But I’d love to have her she’s more my skin color, lol and bc I just love her!

I had Superstar Barbie & Superstar Christie. I vividly remember the year they came out. I was 9, also a NJ kid...and thought this was most gorgeous Barbie ever at the time. I always thought of the TNT face as older and too serious with her pursed lips. Superstar Barbie was the first Barbie sculpt to actually be smiling. She was all of the beauty and glamour of that era, reminiscent to Farrah. What a time to be kid. ❤️ I still have my childhood Barbie’s, and my childhood Superstar Christie, but I also bought the reproduction, and she is stunning.

Melissa, I am 4 months older than you so when we were 10, I not only didn't have a Superstar Barbie OR Christie, but I had only ONE really well-loved Barbie and eventually I also got Ken. For my whole childhood I was under the impression there was ONLY ONE Barbie doll and I had her! Thanks Mom & Dad (just kidding 🤣🤣🤣). Actually they were probably pretty smart because they didn't have a little girl begging them for new Barbie's at every birthday & Christmas. But, let's just say now that I am older, I have MORE than made up for the lack of Barbie's in my childhood! I would have loved shoes with the straps to keep them on! I would often lose the shoes and the rings! My favourite would have been the early 90’s special Christmas Barbie in her velvet green dress with the gem-encrusted top. I would have been 8,9 or 10 but had no idea she was a special edition!

I had a Superstar Barbie back then. Superstar and Malibu were my girls. My favorite memory is that my great-grandma made their entire wardrobe (aside from their original outfits). Oh, I lost that ring... and that necklace, it never stood a chance. LOL

I just got mine today too! I love her ❤️. I was born a few years later so I didn’t get these as a kid. Once I started collecting I got Superstar Barbie and Christie, and I’m glad I did, cause the prices for them on eBay are outrageous! I think they are just beautiful. Those shoes can be so hard to get through those holes! If you snap/secure the shoes first and then slip them on her foot it’s much easier.

Great video! I love the Superstar Barbie era. I was a kid in 77 and my older sis and me got her for Christmas that year , we also got the Farrah mego doll which is said, SS was made in Farrah's image and smile. I wanted the Christie so they could be friends but never got her. She reminds me of Donna Summer. I really love her smile and dress and hair highlights . I remember it as a happy time. My grand parents were alive and family was all together and well, the 70s were really fun for me. I asked my sister if the necklace and ring were real diamonds LOL. I was also afraid to lose them.

I was a teenager in 1977. I would babysit and little girls liked that I would play Barbies with them. I listened to mettle. But, I liked to go to the Disco with my friends and dance. However, there was no Disco to be listened to in my room. Towards the end of the’70’s, I was tired of Disco and went to rock concerts. I still like the Barbie with her late ‘60’s face mold and the long eye lashes.

It was my 9th bday in 1977 when I got Superstar barbie. I loved her!! She was always my fav barbie and still is. I thought she was so glamorous and for me, she was one of the first dolls that came with a dress instead of a bathing suit. What I loved about my "doll" collection back then was that not all my dolls looked alike. I didn't have a lot of "barbie" barbies. I had a couple of Malibu barbies, Superstar barbie and a couple of Skippers. The rest of my dolls were Cher, Donny & Marie, Shaun Cassidy (obsessed) Dusty doll (remember her) Dorothy Hamill, Charlie's Angels, Tuesday and Tiffany Taylor and more. I have been able to restore most of my childhood doll collection, with the help of Ebay, but not Superstar Barbie! I hope they come out with a re-release of her as well. I would also love to have the Christie doll because that is my name..ha. Even spelled the same. Thanks for sharing!

I had Superstar barbie as a kid, it had a pink dress, pink and sparkly silver stole, the stand was a pink star that the legs went on, ad it came with a silver star neckalce for the human to wear. She became Marie Antoniette, in mhy French Revolution playing. (ive always been a wee bit Wednesday Addams..) I did not know there was a Superstar Christie! that is very cool.

That’s freaking hilarious! “She kinda’ reminds me of Superstar Barbie but without some of the emotional baggage…” Too funny and Superstar Barbie was one of my sister’s first Barbies and I remember being secretly obsessed with her. I don’t know why but I thought she was so beautiful and I think she reminded me of Farrah Fawcett or something. I also loved Superstar Ken and thought he was the bomb! I was 2 when SS Barbie and Christie came out. So I grew up with this face, in fact I thought that the older TNT face and Malibu face mold Barbie were not Barbie at all, but were friends of Barbie. My older sister who is a year younger then you really rubbed it in when she took the time to educate me, it probably didn't help that i thought she was pulling the wool over my eyes. It was quite the argument/fight. I never knew this Christie existed either until much later. =-D

Hi Melissa - you and I are close in age , and I definitely remember getting Superstar Barbie with my sister and Superstar Christie . I remember our dad went away on business and we were sad so my mom bought us these dolls to share and some clothing and accessories. I vividly remember thinking how different the dolls were compared to other dolls we had . Our Mego Cher was tall and lanky and her hair was a hot mess . We also had “Topper Dawn “ dolls and they were teeny tiny . I remember thinking how glamorous these Barbie dolls were and we played with those dolls until just the heads were left. We also had the Bionic Woman doll, and she got into a terrible accident driving our doll ambulance and ended up without any arms or legs . I’m certainly not as rough with my replacement dolls from my childhood lol. The stories we would come up with were hysterical looking back. But at the time - we were pretending it was real life . Anyhow , I adore you so much and your channel is important for its message and also it’s a lot of FUN.

My first Barbie was Cut and Style 1994 redhead and she had the superstar face and I remember thinking how mature her face looked. She reminded me of my mother whom was a strawberry blonde and wore red lipstick. My Barbie gave me a kind of secure safe feeling and she was also glamorous. When I was about 4, 5, or 6 I never had barbie dolls the only doll I had was a tallish doll with long brown hair and a brown dress with a lite brown cardigan and black buckle shoes I didn’t get to play with her as much as I wanted Because I had to help look after my 2 younger sisters and younger brother so I didn’t have chance to be a child I also had to help with the housework so she was the only doll I ever had.

Hi, i love your unboxing videos very much and I'm watching you from long but it's very few i have a KZbin channel. I would like to share my Christie Suoerstar memory with you. I'm still very young but I had her!. Mom and dad when I was 7/8 y.o. were very busy also during the summer, so they used to call a woman who was babysitting me. She was so cool and funny she was even playing Barbies with me. She used to brought her Christie Superstar and play with me...I am Italian and that barbie, I really never saw it, also it was very rare by the time I was a baby but I didn't know. That woman told me that someone bring her the doll from USA ages ago. When my Babysitter left me forever at the end of the summer...she was even going to an another city living, she left me Christie. Sadly when after years my mom died I lost many of my things and dolls...even Christie. Last year I started to seek for her online to buy one..because I got terribly sick and I thought I wanted to hold that doll again before to die. When I discovered it was the 1977 Christie, I was surprised 😮, I didn't expect it was so old...at the same time I realized it was impossible to buy one that wasn't extremely expensive 😢. Two days ago as usual I was on Amazon to watch for some barbie extra or other and I saw this reproduction, that is a bit expensive but totally affordable if compared to the original...I said to my Dad please to buy it to me as Christmas present and he did..I will receive her tomorrow. I feel so emotional and when I see her pics I feel moved to tears...this barbie reminds me good times and childhood games and was the first Afro-American barbie I saw...I loved her so much...I'm so happy Mattel reproduced her 😭😭😭😭😭💙..she means alot to me also. I prefer the Super star face sculpt. My first Barbie was an original Midge. I received her in about 74, and had the 76 Ballerina Barbie, with the face sculpt you are talking about. We also had the Malibu Barbie, Ken, and skipper. I didn't care for that face sculpt as a kid. Got a Pretty in Pink as I didn't have a superstar and I preferred her facial features over any of the others.

Got mine last week. I love her. I am unable to get the snaps open as well. It looks like the bodice is sewn at the top to keep it closed. Per Suresh NY, we need to take the sticky tape off as it is bad for the doll body and clothing fabric.

Yeah, I prefer the older Barbie face sculpt as well. But I do like that face sculpt. Although I hate the bent arms, and that entire era of the bent arm dolls. I won't get any of the Fashionistas with bent arms, and there are some of those I like. I remember this Christie. If I do get it, I will re-body it, that's for sure.

Funny enough, I have the ORIGINAL Barbie from this series. She was my mom's, and she had a pink dress instead of the yellow. :V Though she may have lost her body and be just a floating head, at this point.

And re: the changes in facial molds, since I was born in '84, SS Barbie's face is the one I grew up with, so it's the most familiar to me. I feel like the changes that happened after that were a lot more subtle, though, so between the 80's barbie faces and the modern ones, I don't think I had a point where I really went "Oh NO, what did they do to Barbie's face?!?" I do remember when they started changing the bodies, though! Gymnast barbie's joints, the larger waistlines when they tried to make her more realistic. It was really interesting to watch.

Relatively new subscriber & I just want to comment on how much I've grown to adore you & your channel in such a short time. Although I had dolls when I was a kid (starting with hand-me-down Barbie, Ken, & Midge from the 60s from my Aunt), I'd never planned on buying/collecting dolls as an adult until I discovered Monster High & Ever After High many years ago via their webseries. I fell out of of right around the time of the reboot (and when the quality declined) only to decide to collect Fashionista Kens (and exclusively boy dolls because... well... not being that many of them overall it's cheaper). And then Rainbow High happened. And now Monster High is coming back. Anyway, I just wanted to finally comment & thank you for how much warmth & joy your honesty, genuineness, & enthusiasm brings.

Superstar Christie was a big stinking deal because she had the same facial sculpt as the Caucasian version. Prior to this, the AA dolls always had a different sculpt than Barbie--but they did a small run of AA Francie (with the same sculpts) and the world kept spinning--so to have Barbie & Christie have the same sculpt was (then) considered a big deal. I can't wait for my Christie!

superstar barbie and christie are not from my time so i can't comment on their change in face sculpt, but i can comment on the change of barbie's face sculpt as i grew up. i did feel disappointed and sad as barbie's face changed because the barbie open mouth (2005), generation girl / ceo, and mackie face shapes were my childhood; they were what barbie looked like to me. i think the sadness and disappointment i felt towards the changing image of barbie was also because the colour scheme of barbie moved away from pastels and towards saturated pink tones. more so, the barbie movies started to get less and less magical, and even the animation was changing to the point that barbie was unrecognisable.

I’m far too young for superstar Barbie since I was born in the nineties lol, but I remember My cousins had some barbies with snaps and I hated those things 😂😭 I know a lot of collectors see them as being more high quality but they were so hard for me to use and then they started to fall off th clothes and I would be so scared of tearing them off I was so glad they were phasing them out in favor of Velcro lol! I ordered the Malibu set and superstar Christie and I’m still waiting in her ❤️ Mattel’s website is such a pain to order from I had to cancel and orde through target smh

I know this is a Barbie review but ever since I got into Rainbow High and Lol Omg I just can't bring myself to purchase another Barbie with MGA killing it right now. Barbie defiantely has a special place in my heart but my money is going towards MGA's upcoming releases. Mattel better step it up before they go bankrupt. In my opinion I don't even think the new Monster High can save them with $60 price point. Just my two cents. I love superstar Christie just pops and would stand out in any doll collection Love her and your reviews I can't wait till you review the new Rainbow high and lols coming out
