3:43 you can thank John Carmack for that, he literally found a design document from 1980 about it and said: "oh yeah, that could work" and then he proceeded to make Doom and some of the most clean C coding that you will ever see

imagine, they were making soooooo advanced and complex stuff for this platform. Driver 2 and its insane engineering behind it, Crash 1,2,3, Gran Turismo series, Silent Hill. I cant imagine how much patience, knowledge and hacky tactics had to be used, to achieve this.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6vbiXqri7FlZ9E&ab_channel=ArsTechnica You may have seen this already on KZbin but in this video the main dev of Crash Bandicoot explains some of the crazy stuff they had to do to get it running on PS1 hardware. It's honestly one of my fav videos of all time, he's so passionate about it.

You might want to subdivide the large surfaces to much smaller ones to get "perspective corrected texture mapping" into your game. Then the textures in the polygons don't get wonky when you walk through the maze. That's what tons of commercial PS1 games did back in the day to fix that issue.

The game is looking insane, but I have some ideas, if you want to implement them: It would be good to make the ghosts move, and if they touch the player, then you lose the game. Adding like, a scream sound maybe. The footsteps sounds is a really nice idea, but, what about an ambient sound. For example: raindrops or wind, or maybe a horror piano song. So if you implement the idea of the ghosts are the enemies, then to win the game, could be finding the exit or, finding like 5 objects in order (Like in Slenderman).

Wow, awesome! I think you should first make a prototype game that functions, and later add some fancy graphics while debugging and stuff... I suggest you make a sort of Forbidden Siren demake from PS2 era to PS1, maybe. That could be a multiplayer or split screen game... that's my small idea. Keep up the good work and feed your inspiration with quality games. Cheers!

Some people probably "can't see the diode" is because it's a dirt old LED from the 90s that wasn't bright to begin with in a lit room. Though I can see it looking hard enough. PS1 one is nice hardware, though it lacked Anti-Aliasing....amazing the devs of Spyro wizard'd that shit in.

I don't know, I think that one suggestion for a game idea was pretty funny. I'm assuming he was making a joke. As for the accusation of faking it, I wouldn't care even if you were. This whole series is entertaining regardless. My suggestion for the ghosts, instead of just running into them, they should have some sort of awareness of their surroundings and start to fight you as you get closer.

I really want more people to make indie horror games to actually run on PS1. It frustrstes me that so many people make PS1 style horror that runs on Unity. I also like more short experience horror games, basically no combat or chores, maybe some path searching. I tried tried some PC ports of PT and I really liked that, I also recently tried The Park, and I liked that. I would totally port a horror game I liked (demake) or create a new one if I had any skill. Maybe someday someone really smart will create an easy PS1 game creator, but that will probably always be impossible since you really would need to optimize the code on a game to game basis.
@gruntaxeman3740
@gruntaxeman3740 2 ай бұрын
I think it is better idea to write horror games to modern platforms to make code development and maintenance easier, and also it is easier to play with computers or distribute. There is also way to practice optimization and game engine work. Browser with Webassembly sandbox is nice platform and no need to worry about compatibility of graphics libraries.

Maybe check if you use some memory space that you should not. I'm no expert, but I found the Symphony of the Night intro skip on real hardware using a import player cartridge. In that case I could use the dpad and the analog stick at the same time to input left and right on the same frame for the intro skip. This tells me that some memory location should be flushed after the boot sequence, but it does not in case of the import player cart.
