FYI: it isn’t the paper used in the Nat Geo magazines - it’s the CLAY BASED INK used in the editorial photos….covers/advertising pages uses a basic printers ink but the photos use an ink that is clay based which is why it dissolves with CitriSolve & holds the colors of the photos so incredibly well. To help lighten up dark areas dab the darks with a paper towel or scrunched up tissue paper to lift the colors - can create interesting textures this way (and if using tissue paper don’t throw those away - they can be flattened, dried and used in collages, bonus!).

Very cool - thank you for this extra information ❤️

Can you please make a tutorial showing that. Thank you

Do you know of any other magazines which use the same clay-based ink?
@charalson3023 Жыл бұрын
@@pennycandyys As far as I know National Geographic is the only one, sorry. You can find old copies at most thrift stores or used book stores, library sales (they get rid of old copies sometimes), garage sales - usually for very cheap (.25 to 1.00 US)

I watched other utubes doing this same process. I'm glad you related the precautions of a solvent that can damage eyes, skin and sensitive areas. It is also flammable. I enjoy the fact that you didn't overdo the process and allowed some of the imagery of the magazine to show through. I love the outer-spacey feeling of some pages. Your pages still maintained some of the original colors also. Thanks! I'm tempted to try this technique and print images on another piece of paper. I know some artists have used citraisolve to do transfer images.

Thank you. I've used it in the past to do image transfer from ink jet printed paper to cotton fabric and had a good result. 😊

HOLY MOLY!! I just ordered 64 oz of citrasolv. This is awesome. TY!!

Yay!!! You can also use it for image transfer from magazines and printed images into fabric.

Ohhh such good information! I wish I had seen your video earlier! Here in Australia it costs me $80 for a bottle of Citrasolv so I only will get it maybe for a birthday! I wasted quite a bit on advertising pages, wondering why some pages worked beautifully and others don't. So glad I know this now!

(FromThe natgeo citrasolv video a year ago ….) I sort of want to try this. Well. I want the colouring results of this process anyway. Is the result paper oily/greasy or does it go back to eh … inert paper? Is the ink stable (doesn’t rub off?) we are on the brink of outdoor faffing around season and this seems a perfect afternoon of fun. 😁💕😁
@Studioloo Жыл бұрын
So, it's unreliable as a process really...so just be aware of that. The paper does not stay oily once dry and the ink reaffixed itself. 😊
@Parisparisplease2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with most of your techniques. I found the black pages lighten considerably if torn out and spread to dry. I got some gorgeous prints once they finished processing so I don’t know if I would wipe the black ink off.

Great idea Shawn. I definitely need to experiment more but Citra solve is so expensive in Canada ❤️

Now you have me curious about trying different chemicals on magazine papers and seeing what happens. (Like acetone, bleach, mineral oil) I am thinking anything that is high in acidity may have neat results, so even maybe using lemon juice might do something.

Definitely worth the experiment❤️

They look beautiful! I haven't looked for citrusol lately, but I couldn't find it when I did look.I 'm in New England.I wonder if there is another brand name of same mixture that would work? I will attempt once again to locate some if this, because the results are amazing.

Yeah, it's really hard to find. I think my husband found something similar but it would be a chance...I know a lot of things have orange oil but it doesn't work the same - it's basically like an industrial degreaser but made mainly from orange oil.

Je demeure au Québec je ne crois pas que ns avons ce produit.... par quoi je pourrais le remplacer. Est-ce qu il y une raison d’ utiliser la revue National geographic?
@Studioloo9 ай бұрын
Citrasolv is only sold in the US but can be ordered on Amazon. National Geographics are printed with a clay based ink that has this reaction. ☺️
@debbiesavage71073 жыл бұрын
I tried this several years ago. The colors are too dark for me so i don’t remember ever using them. It was a big expense for low return, in my opinion. You’re having way more fun! Maybe i needed more experimentation.
@Studioloo3 жыл бұрын
I definitely see where you are coming from. It's an abundance of black ink. I might try again removing the really dark black pages. I think it's definitely costly because I'm not in the US so Citrasolv is expensive and hard to get. Im looking forward to a project for these papers so I can see how much I want to do this. I think it's better as an outdoor summer experience.

indispemsable de faire ces transfert avec magazine national geographic? merci pour votre réponse
@Studioloo2 жыл бұрын
Oui, seul National Geographic fonctionnera. Malheureusement, je ne sais pas pourquoi - quelque chose à voir avec le type d'encre. En outre, vous devez utiliser des magazines des années 1980.
