I've done a bit of research here in Canada as I'm unable to find CitraSolv here. Amazon lists degeasers with d-limonene in them which may be an option. You can also get d-limonone to mix with water or vinegar to make your own degreaser, but it's not cheap in this form either. Local cleaning chemical stores may have d-limonene in your area. Something to consider. My local thrift store has stacks of NatGeos for pennies yet not one drop of CitraSolv to be found! I'm determined to find a solution (pardon the pun).

Also in Canada- there is a product in our local pet shop that works like Citrasolve. It's for cleaning up pet mistakes. Unfortunately I don't remember what it is called. It's not a usual name. Perhaps some one knows it.

I think the foam will put too much air(and maybe other components) in the mix, and not a lot of the d-limonene will actually contact the ink layer on the page.the pages may also have a separate coating to get through before the ink print layer. Maybe one could spray the foam in a dish, and see if it settles to a liquid, and paint that on!

I think that regular WD40 would work. The non foamy, non citrus WD40. It's a real solvent. You are absolutely FABULOUS. From Illinois USA❤

Thanks for doing the test and sharing. I've used Citrosolve in the past and had fabulous outcomes, lots of variety. I don't believe it was the concentrate and it was a spray, but not foamy. I sprayed one side of the spread and then folded the other down, so less per page. I only used the colorful pages though and just love them all. You've inspired me to make some more, even though I have some left and copies too. Amazing to see what comes out.

Just a tip. I was told that it may be the year of the National Geo that makes a difference, not the product. I personally used 1950’s ..no luck. Try the 1990’s -around 2012 that worked. I was told it’s the inks are different in the later issues.

@@FroyleArt Morning. I sprayed the solution on a warm Club Marine magazine, high gloss similar to a Nat Geo, not promising at all. There are still a few more solvents in the shed to try. The NZ hedge trimmers use a solvent for cleaning sap from their windscreens, it was great for the base of sauce pans.. I tried to buy in Oz but only a diluted version was available. I’ll see if I can find the name of it. In the meantime I’ll see what the shed reveals. Cheers Cher

I was going to say the same. The Geographics had to be predating a certain date because the printing process changed. Wish I could remember what the date was. The original KZbinr who demoed this did state that. However, I can't remember who that was either!! Sorry, too many silver moments! 😀

Try different years of Nat Geo. Composition of the inks and presence or absence of clay determines if it works or doesn't work.

Have you ever tried putting a 2nd layer of CitraSolv on pages that didn’t work out quite as you wanted? I’ve saved some pages for a repeat application, thinking I may not have originally used enough of the product. Which makes me wonder what would happen if you put CitriSolv over the disappointing WD-40 pages: might you get the results you were hoping for? Inquiring minds want to know!

Froyle, this may help. I live in the US and do quite a bit of shopping on Amazon. I have to buy my Citrisol from Amazon. Can't find it anywhere in my area. I do pay a monthly fee of, I believe, $14.95 for free shipping on any item or items during the month. Their price has gone up, which is a bummer, but I do a lot of buying from A. If you do use Citrisol often, it might just be the ticket to bite the bullet and pay the price. I have also done some research for an equivalent, but no go. Froyle, I know I have told you before, but I am in love with your personality. You make me laugh and when I make a large boo boo in my collaging, I conjure up your laughter and "no worry" comments, take a deep breath, grab a glass of wine, light my scented candle and slide back into my creative mold--pretending your sitting next to me :) and off to the races again.

D-Limonene is the oil from citrus, and that got me thinking what about orange or lemon or lime essential oils. You can’t get more concentrated than 100% pure essential oils. I would love to test it unfortunately I also don’t have national geographic magazine but maybe someone could give it a try. Love your video’s

I wonder if other cleaning solvents or lubricants would work? Like Goo-Gone or Simple Green (I’m in the USA btw). I’ve also seen videos of people doing acrylic paint pouring where they add silicone oil to the paint which creates “cels” or round bubble shapes in the paint as it dries. One painter I follow even uses lubricant meant for exercising machines! I have some Goo-Gone here at my house and always have stacks of old magazines and catalogs; I should give it a try and see how it goes.

I understand that the year of the print makes all the difference. This just may have to do with the Citrasolve concentration. The stronger concentration should work on the newer editions.

I've noticed that this works best with old Nat Geos. Didn't work well with current ones but worked really well with older ones 1960s 1970s. Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't been able to access National Geographic magazines, but I purchased a book from the op shop which has beautiful glossy paper and very colourful photographs. It's called Living World published by Dorling Kindersley, and has lots of nature photographs. Do you think this would work? I have repurposed the cover to make a travel journal, so just have the book block.

Hi Froyle, I have used citrasolv on two NG so far and neither of them worked. They were both from 1990, do you use old ones or more recent ones. I don’t know if I should keep working through my pile or maybe wait till summer and see if that makes a difference🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing 🌺

From what I've understood, it is the special clay coated papers that work and those are not used in the front advertising section. They probably have changed the inks, too. I know that the newer soy ink printed newspapers do not make windows shine like they used to.

Maybe the magazines? What date are they? What temperature is it where you live? I fine the cold weather affects the outcome. It doesn’t work as good, you need the warmth. Cheers Froyle

WD-40 is a lubricant to keep things from squeaking. You use it for office chairs that have squeaky parts. Or to lubricate rusting parts that need to move together. Does that make sense?

I've tried Citrasolv concentrate on 3 Nat Geo Mags and no results yet. My Citrasolv results are the same as the WD here. Not sure what I'm not doing right.

Make sure it’s the concentrate citrasolve. Do you brush it on or spray it? What about temperature? This week was just too cold & it didn’t dry properly, it’s so annoying when it doesn’t work! Cheers Froyle

@@FroyleArt It was concentrate and I sprayed it. The weather wasn't cold. Maybe an errant bottle of Citrisolv. I'll keep trying because I love the results you got.

National Geographic changed their ink after 1970's. The Citrosolve works better with the older issues.

You are so brave! WD 40 and CitriSolve fumes both kill me! I do use Citrisolve in the backyard with a mask. But, I wonder if Goop oFF would work on any of the pages? Anything with fumes of death might work. Just a thought. I wear a full respirator often. I like my last brain cell. Big wink and hug!

I tell ya what I'm thinking (for what it's worth...not alot🧐) The WD40 was so wet that it leeched through to your CS pages when you closed the book and interfered with the process preventing Froyling! ❣️Hugs Lisha

Oh yes great theory! 👍🏼 I like it! But the horrible cold winter is taking it’s toll! I think it was too cold & the citrasolve just didn’t dry properly, so I’m doing the next experiment when it is warmer again, I’m going to test magazines from different years 👍🏼 cheers

I've used turpentine and it works but not as well as CitraSolve- it takes a lot longer and is messy and doesn't smell like oranges!! Also, I get the OLD Nat Geo mags- like before 1973??? Hope this helps....... thanks for the video.

It will be difficult to find another product with such a high concentration of D.Limonen. I did some research and in France, these are products for professional use in the industry. Moreover, citrasolv is not found in France because it is declared toxic for the skin, eyes ... I tested with a few drops of citrus essential oil. the cheapest (400 euros per liter 😮). It seems to work but I don't want to sell my house 🤣😂
