Also good news, as chemo is a lot more destructive to normal tissue, and this may be a pre-op treatment to reduce the tumor to oeprable size. I hope everything goes well for Gabriels dad.

Hey, FF9's final boss was well-earned because it establishes its conclusion to be an exploration of the themes of evolutionary existentialism, wherein the final boss's motivation is that thanks to the actions of the main antagonist, life has proven it has no right to exist. And they use the power of friendships to prove that the will to live is stronger than anything. I like it.

In case anyone here in the comments is wondering, "Amenhotep" was a very common name among ancient egyptian royalty that praised that sun god "Amun" (ancient egyption vowels changed based on context). Barring some rarer myth/tale that the makers were familiar with, it's mostly likely referring to Amenhotep IV who changed his name to Akhenaten during his reign. Akhenaten worshiped his own version of the sun god that he called either "Aten" or "Akhen (I don't remember which off the top of my head, but it's the reason for his name change) and tried to start a major religious sect of his own based on an almost monotheistic passion to the sun. While it's likely the makers of this game just wanted to add in cool references to ancient people, the concept of ancient polytheistic leaders suddenly deciding the sun is the only god could be connected (especially in the minds of a cult like the villains here) with the god of the book. To my knowledge though, the only explicit time a worshipper of the sun decided that the sun god was the god of the book was the case of emperor constantine making the roman empire legally christian. Akhenaten's reign was actually before the most likely eras described in the torah/bible.

Canned laughter is awful, but there's a difference between canned laughter and a laugh track. Not all laugh tracks use canned (fake) laughter. The likes of Red Dwarf and Black Books are not canned laughter, they're recorded in front of an actual audience and feature genuine audience reactions to the jokes they're seeing. Even if there's location shooting stuff in the episode, that's shown to that same audience and their reactions are recorded. Canned laughter was mostly a US TV thing.

@NixodCreations8 жыл бұрын
Assuming most of the audience was between 20-30 years old (makes sense when you listen to the tracks) in 1955 (median of "the 50's") they would be between 81 and 91 years old today. Sure, a few of them would be dead, but definitely not long dead, so there's no need to feel creeped out by them.

It drives me mental when people go 'that's not even real laughter this show is all bullshit' whenever they talk about sitcoms. If you go to the studio where the film The Big Bang Theory and take the studio tour they'll literally sit you down where the studio audience sits and describe to you in detail how they film it and how the audience stays for the whole taping which takes like 7 hours. It's just a dumb, lazy way to try and discredit a show you don't like.

Yeah, FF9 fucks itself by having a main villain and then out of nowhere there's some Chaos God thing that had nothing to do with the plot at all and is kinda just shoehorned when Kuja made a perfectly fine final boss.
@manjiimortal8 жыл бұрын
The final boss was more thematic than anything else, it was a representation of Kuja's desire of erasing all of existence, pure nihilism if you want to look at it that way, brought about from the primordial crystal. It disappeared once Kuja had his face-turn and realized the world wasn't all about him, his desires changed and as such Necron disappeared for he had no more reason of being. It's what always happens when FF tries to get really subtle and deep and explore complicated issues, but their writing team has a hard time passing those ideas into a script so you have to really look for it.
@CrypticDiabolo8 жыл бұрын
+manjiimortal That is interesting, I've never heard it explained like, that's pretty cool. Sad how a TEAM of writers couldn't bring that across.
@manjiimortal8 жыл бұрын
FapMonster A TEAM of writers couldn't even decide who was the big villain in FF7, Sephiroth or Jenova. The big thing about Necron is that you need to really pay attention to the little he says, and he does make a big speech on how life fears death and that Kuja proved it by wanting to destroy existence, and Necron exists to return everything to the Zero point, to before the Crystal and Life ever existed. When the party refuses to accept that fate their will to live shows Kuja that he was wrong, so he teleports them back to the real world and Necron collapses, no longer able to sustain itself. See also Kuja's last pieces of dialogue.
@Amitlu8 жыл бұрын
well its mostly 4, 9 and 10 (but Yevon was foreshadowed) But it doesnt help that the translation gave him a vague name instead of his original name which made it more clear that he was some thematic entity (the name was eternal darkness)
@Penningtontj8 жыл бұрын
I was generally under the impression that the Sephiroth you spend the game hunting is merely a puppet of Jenova that just looks like Sephiroth, which is why when you "catch up to him" you end up fighting a Jenova monster and why Kadaj "becomes" Sephiroth when he absorbs Jenova's head in Advent Children. The original Sephiroth was killed by Cloud in the Nibelhiem reactor several years before the game, Jenova body-jacks his shape because Sephiroth was powerful and feared, and because (due the fact that Jenova could explicitly read peoples minds) she knew it be the best way to fuck over Cloud.

Looking back at the first episode of Archer, Pam's characterization is WAAAAY off. Also, hey! Gabe likes Archer! EDIT: Also, to introduce someone to Futurama I'd show them Roswell that Ends Well. It's all of Futurama, encapsulated. EDIT 2: Yes, the HL expansions are canon. I like to think of Opposing Force's Race X as an anxiety-and-morphine-induced hallucination, though.

9:10. Yahtzee talking over Gabe *twice* as he attempts to talk about his dad's cancer treatment really makes me think less of Yahtzee. I get that it's not particularly entertaining, but Christ, I would've thought respecting a friend's feelings and having the episode go a bit weird for a minute or two would've been more important to him than entertainment value. Gabe's obviously a bit distraught over it, and though this is a weird place to bring it up, you'd think Yahtzee would do something beyond just brush past it like he'd mentioned how nice the weather's been. I knew he was socially repressed, but that was flat out heartless.

It was pretty cruel he didn't given it even the slightest bit of lip service to let Gabe even explain what was happening with his dad, but I do disagree with the assertion Gabe sounded distraught. He sounded rather ok with it, just bemused with the name "gamma knife". Also thought occurs that they may have already talked about it privately outside of the videos, seeing as they were having a conversation before the video started. Still, it's rude he didn't let Gabe even get a word in about it.
@davethehostage8 жыл бұрын
Jack Kerger They've probably had a discussion or two about it prior to this, so I'm hoping it's just that Yahtzee simply didn't know how to respond to it in this case - not so much that he didn't think it was worth talking about. Then again, this is all pure speculation. It just didn't come across well in the video.

davethehostage Yeah, but yahtzee always talks over Gabe (and it's not like he's doing it to interject some pearl of wisdom; usually just an inane observation about the game). And he's shown time and again that he's kind of a jerk. I like his reviews, but...

Regarding Undertale, none of the final bosses are even God or gods. They're all major characters within the story and simply have or obtain a lot of power, and it's easier to sum up as "becoming a god" than to actually bother explaining the nature of the power in great detail (which the game actually does, I might add, but you know, repetition and all that). You also literally can't beat two of them (the no mercy and neutral finals) with the power of friendship, you have to use brute force. And the true ending final boss... is more about your determination to be merciful than the power of friendship. Also, Giygas from Earthbound isn't a god either. He's a frickin' space alien. Now, you want RPGs where you really do fight what the characters think counts as a "god" in-universe? Try something like FFX or Xenoblade... and even in those games, the final bosses in both are explicitly revealed to have been normal humans at some point. Which makes me wonder why they bother making it about religion, mythology, deism, gods, etc. and whatnot. The constant, repeated, preachy theme is that those things are bad, but if you actually look at the plot, it sounds more like HUMANS are the evil ones for desiring and misusing power over others. But no, let's just blame god! It's really sloppy writing. Which is probably why the overuse of this trope is so negative. Other JRPG tropes like collecting macguffins, evil empires, good vs. evil, political strife, saving the world, and even evil dad reveals have all been done well several times over. Whereas I can count on one hand how many RPGs... heck, probably how many games in general even touch on the subject of religion or related themes without screwing it up horribly. And I'd probably still have enough fingers left over to comfortably play those games.

John Carmack is really a hack when it comes to game writing. He's amazing at the technical mechanical stuff, like coding, but for aesthetics and story he's tripe. That's what actually made him and John Romero such a killer team, because Romero is good at things like story and level design. Also in every RPG you need a fair grasp on what's going on in the story, otherwise 90% of any commitment is out the window for a story driven narrative.

I probably missed something, but what is the point of the spinels? Are they just trade bait for the vendors or do they have a practical use?

Where can I submit questions for the next episode?

I can't be bothered to make a Reddit account to ask for myself but... I wonder how Yahtzee feels about being one of the first people to coin the phrase 'PC master race' and his ZP avatar and a symbol of it. If someone wants to ask for me, go for it.

Yahtzee, have you ever got the secret weapon in RE 4 and if you have, what are your thoughts on it and if not, do you know how to get it.

Stop saving every 3 meters. What's the matter? Brexit got your balls?
@Schwallex8 жыл бұрын
Yahtzee has been saying "every 3 meters" for years, and other Brits for generations. It's quite clearly your balls that Brexit got. A meter is not a EU thing, you dimwit.

26:30 This is a weird Dark Souls crossover. 33:25 What he's trying to get around to saying is that he eats ass.
Ok, what the fuck gabe. Literally stained my shirt and was putting it in the wash the moment you said "take your shirt off". Stop being a wizard.

in RE5 there is a way to stock up on ammo i think its you grab the ammo in the area then save the game then leave to main menu then reload the save and repeat. I am unsure if this trick works on RE4 though ill need to try it some time.

24:56 seeing how constantly crap Yahtzee was at most of ridiculousy easy situations, I was shocked at how efficiently fast he solved the bloody puzzle.
