I had a great grandmother that came to America with her parents from Ireland during the Irish Famine of 1879. She traveled to Texas in a covered wagon in the. They had a piano in the wagon and she would play when she got bored, one time some Indians came riding up to the wagon curious what the noise was. Being from Ireland her family thought they were going to be attacked, but all the wanted was to see what was making the music. So after seeing the piano and playing with it for a bit they peacefully rode off. I always found that to be a really cool story.

As someone who has had to live on field rations when hurricane Irene and Sandy hit us in 2011 and 2012 respectively, 2 pounds of rations a day sounds like rather a lot to be considered meager. However, they are travelling while I was in a storm bunker while the hurricane levelled the house I had be living in but it was a rental and I had moved all my stuff to safety so I didn't feel too bad about it. Gotta say, this series has been one of my favourite lets-play-themed things on youtube. You break all the "rules" of producing good video content, which is I think one of the things I like about it, because the fact that everyone does the same stupid stuff like asking people to like and sbscribe, having irritating intro music etc, gets really really tiring for me. You two are refreshing because of the good discussion, and because you do things however the hell you like.
@OdaSwifteye10 жыл бұрын
I think the key to it's success is that it's simple and not for profit. They just want to talk, play games, and entertain. The problem with a lot of channels is that they make it their livelihood and they then have to hustle like clowns and they don't offer great content to match.

Exactly. Besides this channel I like Totalbiscuit and Lord Karnage from Classic Game Room because they are genuine, take their time, and actually grown-ass people.

You make a good point Oda, of the professional channels I watch, I tend to prefer the ones that are least "professional" in their conduct, because the content feels alot more natural, and you tend to get more interesting videos. I'm a Total Biscuit watcher as well, as it happens, fer, and yes, he produces professional content, but doesn't try to hard-sell at you, which is refreshing.

It's not that the game is particularly difficult, it's that the results are based on randomness alone. You could start again with the best setup and die in less than a month. Secondly, as a kid, what was hard about this game was trying to beat it after getting the computer assignment done and before the computer time was over. Saving was not an option back then unfortunately. Living in Oregon, every computer at every school had a version of Oregon Trail on it for a very long period of time. This game was great because it was what kids got to play at school since it was labeled educational, not because it was the best game.

@tenlosol9 жыл бұрын
Kyler Lumpkin eh.net/encyclopedia/the-economics-of-the-civil-war/ history.state.gov/milestones/1861-1865/alabama And there's more than a few books about the civil war and the political and economic benefits behind supporting the south. Primarily though Southern cotton was dirt cheap to produce, and though the idea of slavery was not a popular one in Europe at the time, I'm sure britain and other nations had ideas where they could "help" slaves and give them a situation more like in India (which itself was groomed to take over production lost from the South being blockaded). Britain more than supported the south in materials (chief among things was building them ships for battle against he Union) and this also says nothing of the Trent Affair almost causing an international incident. Really the only thing that kept Britain out was Antietam (and is why I think its the most important battle of the war, just above Gettysburg). Without an early decisive victory on Union soil (as most battles thus far as been in the south), Britain wasn't confident it could shift the balance of power in the US landscape and that the Union would still be too formidable to attack (since they pretty much owned the Sea and starting war would likely bring in either France or Spain [or worse both, though primarily it would have been France] into the conflict on the Union side and start another war in Europe that would tie up the nations). But Britain still supported the confederacy through materials, giving them ships to battle the union blockade and disguising them as merchant vessels that would be turned to war ships and renamed and commanded by the confederates. But don't think Britain wouldn't have been above taking cheap cotton at the expense of slave labor from another nation, especially one across the ocean who enjoyed its privacy and could be written off as "Well, that's simply how things are done there, we've tried to teach thme the European way (twice) and they didn't take to it."
@Kyler1Ace9 жыл бұрын
tenlosol Alright I believe you.
@nickj.6489 жыл бұрын
The European powers were tentavily supplying both sides of the civil war. They were hedging their bets to make sure the side that won wouldn't hate them. England itself was more pro union because the royal family told them to play nice but the British colonies (Mostly Canada) was in favor of the Confederates because British North Americans feared the North getting an economic monopoly, and Canada blamed the North for the War of 1812, despite the South and West were pushing for that war.

I think i understand now what makes LDOs special, for me atleast. Its human. Other lets plays/podcasts might be better produced, have more jokes, be more creative and be more entertaining as a whole, but never on youtube, or in podcasts have i heard so much human spirit than with these two. They are boring sometimes, they are unfunny sometimes, they are very, very cringy sometimes, but they are fucking there, they actually exist, they make mistakes, they bicker and you actually believe that it is real, that they are actual living, breathing people. The phrase "to err is human" really suits these podcasts/lets plays well, in my opinion

You'd probably enjoy The Podcats with Many A True Nerd's Jon, Dan Nerd³, and Mattaphobia. Also you might want to check out Trash Taste, the anime podcast that's not actually an anime podcast. "Gypsum", "Shale", "Boulder", "Rifle", "Jackass Flats", "Cold Bay", and while it's still in French, the "Big Tits".
