OK yes this is a “pop” song, but there is so much I love about it and it has such great depth and freshness for a pop song. Something like this could only come from England the US doesn’t have this pop sensibility at the moment. The production is stunning. Several synthesizer “sounds” are sublime, including a couple edgy, dense ones like the bass that comes in like a thundering train at 1:20. There are, not just one, but multiple hooks that are intoxicating example at 1:36 and 4:02. There are loads of surprises, once you think the song is “this” it changes and becomes “that”. Several wonderful peaks and valleys. I love the vocals that celebrate their regional accent without trying to polish it, the accent adds character. There is a really nice, deep emotional quality. And man it sounds so good loud. And when you think you’ve heard it all the saxophone comes in at the 5 minute mark. Epic track.
