Let’s Edit with Media Composer - 4K Multicam Off/Online

Great video! Still trying to wrap my head around a few details: 1) @13:00 Is deleting the associated media files of the transcodes the only way to successfully relink the full res source media? What if more changes come through, do you just re-transcode then make the changes? 2) I see you're transcoding again at the end--can you only export transcoded footage, or can you export the raw media immediately after it's all relinked? 3) does this same workflow work if you did the transcodes in Resolve and want to relink to the full res media in avid, or would you have to do it another way? Sorry for all the questions! Avids 4k workflow has been boggling my mind, but I really am trying to understand it :)

Hello, I didn׳t understand why you deleted the AMA files at the beginning, I leave them in a closed folder that a dont touch and when i finish and relink in the end i open the bins the AMA was in and select relink to open bins , is there something i missed? a reason not to do it that way?

Hey Benny - Absolutely no reason. For me, having more and more files that I don't necessarily need can become cumbersome and confusing if more than one editor is working on a particular project. But, that's the best part about a lot of these workflows.....there's more than one way to get to the finish line.

The Avid has chaged a lot so it would be helpful if you make a crush course on Avid 2019 so that the new user can connect properly with the new version.

I would have pointed out the zoom that happens when going from 2.33 to 1.78 . Some may prefer changing the reformat to letterbox. In most cases I'm so not for zooming or the letterbox/pillar box style of covering the black with a blurry image.

Or media composer should just make a button to switch between 1080p offline proxy files and original UHD files. Just like Adobe premiere. Without the deleting and relinking hassle which is so clunky in 2019.

Hey Axel, Media Composer does have a proxy mode, but unfortunately it doesn't work like Premiere's does. I agree that yes, it's clunky, but it's all we have right now, so we've gotta make it work! KPM
