What this video proves is that the script writing is just as important as the voice acting. You can have Morgan Freeman voicing a character and he’d still sound ridiculous if the script had sloppy writing.

In the original Japanese version of Shadow Hearts, Yuri and Nicolai were named Uru and Nicole. Their names were changed in the translation to more natural-sounding ones, but Chaos Wars kept their original names for whatever reason.

+Caliburn Absolute Um... Pal, I am perfectly aware that Yuri is an actual name. And guess what? So is "Nikolai". I know that because I am Russian and I've heard both of those names hundreds of times. What I meant was that to an English speaker "Uru" and "Yuri" both sound equally foreign. And on top of that the name isn't actually "Yuri", it's "Yuriy" (with the sound "y" after the "i").

I'd say regarding the voices given for the Shadow Hearts cast I still prefer the originals(from Covenant, obviously not from Chaos Wars dubbing lol). But, that being said, you guys still "heavily" improved this god awful scene from the original english dub of this game, fantastic work. :)

Thank you so much for showing how writing makes a big difference. People point out how voice direction can make or break an anime or video game and how it can’t all be blamed on the voice acting alone, but people always seem to forget about the script. Voice directors have to work with the script too. If they have a bad script, they’ll have trouble directing the VAs.
