Excited to introduce a new sewing machine - we're going industrial with the Juki DDL-8700. This is a straight stitch only model ideal for light to medium weight fabrics. This thing is POWERFUL, boasting up to 5,500 stitches per minute, a large throat space, solid build, and a higher lift on the presser foot using the knee lift. My Juki also included a servo motor, table, and the seller threw in a fluorescent light as a bonus. I plan to use the Juki DDL-8700 for general sewing and (hopefully) quilting.

Hello Sewing Report, When you wind your bobbin, raise your pressure foot so it won't wear the bottom of the foot with the feed dogs. You can use the pressure foot up/down lever on the back of the machine so you don't have to keep your knee on the knee lift. Michaelalan

If you feel like the machine is too fast, tap your foot on the pedal instead of mashing it down. That will help slow things down. I usually do this when I need more control going around curves or tight spaces

This model costs less than the TL model because it does not have the thread cutter and a needle positioner. The DDL8700-7 have those automated functions and the price is probably similar to a TL, but certainly more worth it because it's industrial. One thing I don't understand is why many resellers in the US don't put the belt cover on many machines, it's shipped with it and not an optional, it's safer and prevents threads getting caught in there, or fingers lol. Becareful when winding the bobbin, don't let the thread wind on the winder pin, wind manually for a few turns and cut the excess tail, raise the foot with the manual lever and press the pedal; this way you won't damage the foot. Don't forget to run it at high speed for a minute or so from time to time (with the foot up), if you plan to let it sit for long periods or if you regularly use it at low speed; this helps the oil circulating, it's very important to keep it lubricated.

Looks awesome. I have had the Juki TL-2010Q and absolutely love it. It stitches fast with a straight stitch only. Which is fine, since I rarely use decorative stitches. I have other machines for that. I love the ease of stitching with it, and the fabric never gets sucked into the feed dogs.

Thank you do much for this video tutorial on the Juki DDL-8700. I've had my machine for over 2-years and never used it. Today I finally put on my big girl pants and decided to make it happen. I've seen so many tutorials on this machine and none compares to yours!!! You went nice and slow plus answered questions that stopped me from using it in the first place. I'm finally making my first bag on the Juki and not my Janome Skyline S5. :D

Thank you! I wish I had seen this an hour ago. I purchased 2 for my middle school classroom and had to spend most of today figuring out how to thread it and get the tension correct. All is good now, but I think my main problem was that I was using a heavy duty nylon thread and it kept stripping. I now understand that maybe the DDL-8700 is more middle of the road and stick with an all purpose thread. Glad I found you! I look forward to other videos.

I have this very machine here in Poland it is a workhorse! Love love love it. I'm far more attached to this one than any home machine I've ever had. At a lot less of the cost. My tips are related to lighting. As an older sewist, there is a lack of light under there, so I've attached an LED strip under the throat and have lights shining directly onto the work area from both sides - Oh, we also put a nice bright light on the wall behind where I'm working so I do now have plenty of light in this area....makes a big difference.

Would you believe that I learned to sew on a industrial machine? At that time, over 50 yrs ago, we had Singer commercial. When it was time to replace them we bought Juki machines. Many years later they are still awesome and going strong! My "newer" Juki DDL-8700 is 25 yrs old and it looks and behaves like it's brand new. I admit that having machine embroidery machines is fantastic, but the Juki commercial machines are fabulous!

Looks like a great machine. What I need is to be able to make professional button holes all the time and all these machines I have such as the Janome, boast of great button holes, my problem is trying to figure out how to start each one, finding the placement. The same is on even a cheaper machine, it uses the same technique but I’ve been sewing for 60 years and button holes have always been a source of frustration.

Love this tutorial ! I was having issues with thread breakage until I watched your video - I was threading incorrectly! Do you have any videos on thread tension? I like to topstitch on this machine and my thick top stitching thread pops through in spots. I always use regular thread for my bobbin. Any suggestions on how to fix? Or can you refer me to a link? Thanks so much

Congratulations on your new Juki!! I've had a DDL-8700 for a while. I'm still a novice, and have only done a little quilt block piecing on it. I got sidetracked on other hobbies and haven't used my Juki in a while. I figured it would be a good idea to watch a refresher course on threading, etc., to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. The only issue I've had with mine is getting the needle threaded. My old eyes and its needles don't get along well. :-) Where did you get the light attached to your thread stand?

This model sewing machine is a great one. My wife has it and sews like a dream. Unfortunately, she currently has it put away, because she is using the Juki DDL-5550N. It looks just like the 8700,the only difference is the 8700 is made in China and the 5550N was made in Japan. Is there a quality difference between the two? not really. We also have an old home sewing machine that is solid steel, but has a zig zag feature in case we need it.

I love watching your videos and I also own a Juki DDL 8700 and I love it! so I wanted to ask you if you have ever tried free motion quilting with the machine? if so did you lower the feed dog and set the stitch length to zero? when I tried to lower the feed dog it blocked the bobbin case and I couldn't change the bobbin anymore... it would be great if you could give me some feedback or even make a video about it.

Hey! I have been working in the apparel industry for 7 years and these are the machines we use. I have used them to make heavy-duty construction apparel (safety vests, winter coats, pants, etc), denim jackets, leather pants, and bridal gowns. These machines are workhorses and will last you for YEARS. They also have different types like automatic, semi-automatic, and standard (like the one in this video). It depends on what you want to make and how fast you want to go. The automatic and semi-automatic are faster because it cuts the thread as you are working. These options are best if you plan to start a fashion line or sell the clothes you make. However, they are more expensive. If it's not at that level then the standard works just fine. It is a major purchase (mine was $1100 Canadian) but it is so worth it! You can sew so many different types of material with it and it works much faster than a domestic machine. I hope this helps! 😊

@SparkyOne549

The reason the power trips, is because your electrical panel is probably only rated for 100w, not 200w. New houses today have 200w rated electrical panels. That’s why you said you turn everything off before sewing, then it works. Look at your documentation for how many watts the machine uses with the servo motor.

I have a Juki DX and it's not even industrial but sews through thick material. CraftGemini on YT did a video on Juki F600 - another home machine - that sewed through 8 layers of denim. Juki is built tough without the added price of a name like BabyLock. Their sergers are also great.

@pattyfarrell
@pattyfarrell Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, it is very, very heavy. I've used this machine at work for a year now, and hope to purchase one for home soon.There are hinges in the back and you lift it like opening a gate only vertically instead of horizontally. Hold it so it won't fall down in the back. There is a peg sticking out of the table in the back on which you rest the machine. It will drip oil so watch out, and make sure first you have nothing anywhere near it as it can easily fall into the lake of oil. :) Be careful as the hinges can come out if not handled correctly. Good luck!

Hi. You mentioned the sailrite machine. Do you have one of those too? It’s industrial too so wondering why you would need the Juki If you have it. I’m currently looking at buying one or the other so that is why I’m asking. Thanks
@SewingReport
@SewingReport 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do have both, but the Sailrite is a walking foot only machine, and I personally feel it would be better suited for heavy duty projects like sewing upholstery, leather bags, home dec. You technically could quilt with the Sailrite, but I do not plan on using it for that. My husband likes the Sailrite, so it's obviously about personal preference. The Juki (for me) is more comfortable to sew on and I think is a better machine if you make clothing or work with lighter fabrics. If you can - test drive several different machines in person to better help make a decision.
