Important update to my original video about putting a walking foot on an industrial sewing machine... One viewer recommended a different type of screw for the Juki DDL-8700, so I ordered a box to test out, while another reports that attempting this walking foot hack threw the timing off on her sewing machine.

I did ask the dealer I purchased my machine from about this, and he didn't really see an issue with attaching a walking foot as long as I don't sew at a high speed, use shorter stitch lengths, and make sure the screw is secure. The threading in the screw hole could be stripped, but worst case scenario, the needle bar needs to be replaced.

Can I buy a few screws and heat tubing from you?

I love that you tried this unconventional hack! As someone who was debating on whether to get a straight stitch machine or not this definitely gave me something to consider.

I have an older Juki DDL 5550-6, and I use an industrial Singer walking foot. To shield the exposed longer screw, I place a short length of thin brass tubing over it. (I found mine pre-cut to ~ 1/3" long, among some misc. parts in a bin in the garage. Don't know where it came from, but it works well for this purpose.)

Thanks for the great video! I would try putting a piece of heat shrink on the 2 prongs that ride on the screw so the metal doesnt wear through as quickly. Ive noticed some walking foot models have nylon here for that but those ones were low shank. If I see a high shank with nylon I will pass along a link!

I bought the same machine except mine is the H model, its too fast for me even at the slowest speed so I bought a speed reducer and after I mounted it I did not like the way it changed things so I made a new table, its now 32 inches deep an not the 21 inches of the original, I can still tilt the machine back on the rest with out having to remove the belt, I also put a piano hinge on the back between the table top and the stand an added a couple of gas shocks to allow it to lift up so I can get it through the door openings, you have to lift out the machine an pull out the oil pan first but the bigger table an the mounting of the speed reducer is worth the hassle as I only pull it out of my spare bedroom when I am doing bigger projects

You can get small packs of SAE and Metric threaded screws at ACE hardware or sometimes a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes will have your size and head. Heat shrink tubing is in the electrical section of HD or Lowes also, or even Walmart in small packs.

I brought my original screw to Home Depot, but there was nothing even close to the size I needed. Obviously YMMV, but the best fit I've found yet are these products: 18-8 Stainless Steel Socket Head Screw 5-44 Thread Size, 1/2" Long www.mcmaster.com/92196A234/ Ball-End Hex Screwdriver 3/32" Size (you'll need this too) www.mcmaster.com/5497A25/

Once you figure out the best fit....I would heat wrap all the screws and sell in batches of 3.

Not necessarily a bad idea, but that could open her up to liability issues from Juki as well as the people she sold to.

Heat shrink can repair the wires going into earbuds. The trick is to cut the tubing down the middle. Then wrap it around the wire. Apply a little super glue to secure the heat shrink (aka so heat shrink doesn't unravel). Then apply heat gun.
