The rain has finally stopped at Harry's Farm and we're back combining the wheat. It should be plain sailing but doesn't turn out that way..

Yep - where I live i get a Mole Valley Farms supplement. It's fascinating. If it was given more context and import in schools i would think it would be more popular. It really is very complicated. i have so much respect for the discipline.

It fun if you are at the right side. Harry is at the right side (running it). But the other side (machine operator) is quite stressful. Working for a salary with very long and uneven days can be very hard. Harry has a small farm so it might not be as difficult, but bigger farms (few thousand hectares under grain) look at cutting costs with minimizing staff etc. You see, small farm needs those one or two guys (you can't operate tractor and a harvester at the same time). Bigger farms need one or two more, but they think that they can squeez without them. If you take one or two guys away from small farm, it might(!) be 100% of its work force. If you take one or two guys away from a bigger farm, then it might be 25% of its workers and the other 75% has to compensate this with longer days.

Having worked on a farm although not in a farming capacity, I can tell you that at this time of year they are often flat out seven days a week sometimes late into the night. Most arable farmers won't have any holidays until the winter. It's a hard life but in the right years there can be big rewards for the farmer, dependent on weather, crop yields and prices

I wonder more efficient arable farming is here in Czech Republic. It rains end May - early June ...then again mid September. But it's hot and dry during the rest of the year. I've only seen cattle here twice. And sheep only very occasionally. I wondered allowed at the size of some of the fields that you pass on the train. "Welcome to collectivisation" said one of the older Czechs in the office ....

Hi Harry, Graham from Australia. When we are unloading the combine into grain cart( we call them chaser bins) we keep grain cart tractor at constant speed ( prearranged with combine driver) and the combine is slowed or quickened to move unloading auger along the cart. Easier to see into cart from combine. Keep the videos going.

Can’t understand why people give Harry’s vlog a thumbs down, obviously they don’t know about farming and all the hours that they put in, and the farm hands also. I think this is a brilliant video along with the rest of them, farmers work long arduous hours in all weathers and I think it’s fantastic that Harry gives people an insight to his life, down on the farm. Keep them coming, you certainly won’t get a thumbs down from me, it’ll always be a thumbs up. Kind regards Johnny

Hi Harry many thanks for the videos I absolutely love them, Great to see a farmer using the best kit CASE, me being prejudice I love CASE, working for 45+ years in agricultural contacting ( now retired) I've driven a few different makes and models but manly CASE and none matched CASE but as I said that's me being prejudice. Anyway Harry keep making your videos in the way you are I think you've got it about right your doing a great job. Many thanks Harry Ritchie

I really dont think it's the N that cosed the dowend grain at that spot,because it's just that spot en the distence to the treeline it looks verry much like downwind with heavy winds that got over the trees and the feld down on the grain

I worked on farms from the age I could reach the pedals on a Ford 3000 up to about the age of 30. But watching Harry's films I find myself remembering things but most of all learning about modern agriculture. I was particularly interested in the film about the organic grassland. Harry has very positive views and beliefs and presents them in a very friendly and concise manner. Thank you Harry.

Loving the series. Would it be possible without giving too much away to understand how much the farm makes or loses ? I think people may be surprised about the profits made once you have paid for all the machinery etc.
@harrysfarmvids5 жыл бұрын
Losses are more common than profits! Mainly depends on the season but will mention this as the months tick by.
