At first you fall in love with the mysteries of "Lost", and the suspense. The writers/show runners/directors are very good at that, and it is always consistent... even if some mysteries aren't answered for a really long time, and that's because of two things: more mysteries; but what you really fall in love with is the characters. The show is so amazing at giving us complex characters with crazy backstories; the sneaky character connections from their own pasts that they don't realize; the bonds the characters make with other characters; the emotional moments the characters have to go through over and over; but the BEST part of show HAS to be the character development for each one of the main characters. It's just beautiful to watch.

Lexi, Walt was taking on day 44 in "Exodus, Part 2". This episode takes place on days 51 -52 after the crash of Oceanic Flight #815. Walt has been missing for 8 days at this point.

This episode contains not one but two of my favourite Sawyer lines: "Good thing I'm travelling with my doctor, then" and "There's my favourite leaf". Also I wonder if you caught it while editing, but there was a minor thing said later in the episode which relates to a season 1 story point.

A couple of things: when "Zeke" says "Tell me, you go over a man's house for the first time, do you take off your shoes, d'you walk in the kitchen, eat food that doesn't belong to you, open the door to rooms you got no business opening?" Someone should have answered that "we also don't allow that man to take the kid we brought with us without trying to get him back." So, it was another incomplete line of logic. Secondly, Kate is the hero in this episode. If it wasn't for her following the group, even after she had been told not to, it is very likely that Jack, Sawyer and / or Locke would have been shot by Zeke and his group. All three of those men are the most pig-headed people of the survivors. When they're convinced that what they are doing is "right", they do not back down. If it wasn't for Kate being brought out as a hostage, they very likely wouldn't have backed down until one or all of them were shot. And if Kate had gone along with them, she likely wouldn't have been able to talk them out of pushing the Others limits. It was her being put in mortal danger that forced them to back down. Sawyer's threat of "You and me ain't done, Zeke" proves his state of mind. And Jack's first action after returning to the camp was to ask Ana-Lucia how long it would take to train an army proves his.

I agree with your assessment that this was the course of events that had to happen to let them have that encounter and still survive, but it does not make her a hero, it makes her a plot device.

Two things : First; I hate that Jack's been living on the island for several weeks (This Episode takes place on days 51-52 after the crash) with Sayid - an actual military man who's been in war and proven his value and trustworthiness... and Jack asks the unhinged cop he just met to help him train an army. Second; The more I watch Lost (or watch other people watching Lost), the more I realize that Christian was not as horrible of a father as he seemed at first. Don't get me wrong, he'll never win father of the year, but the more you pay attention to what he does, the more you realize he is (usually) Trying to do right by his son, he just doesn't go about it in the best way. Good intentions, poor execution. Each viewing he moves further from the bad end of the 'worst parents on Lost' list.

Jack is warned twice about not 'crossing lines' in this episode. He didn't listen the first time (when his dad warned him) and it now seems he may not listen the second time, if his 'army' plan is anything to go by. So glad you can see that Kate is not at fault here...so many people love to just instantly blame her for everything, so I really appreciate how fair minded you are. If anything, her actions inadvertently saved them from going into a huge shootout which probably would have resulted in at least one of our guys being killed. Thanks for another great reaction ❤

5:51 Jack was sore at Kate. Imo. Kate was so tender with Sawyer when he first got back, last ep, there's was a place where you could see this subtle sign from Jack. Just a moment he felt really uncomfortable watching her tend to him, and Sawyer responding to it. Jack shows everything on his face. But it's subtle.

You said something in your outro that I want to comment on. It'll be something you've heard already but I'm going to come at it from a different angle. "I hope we get more Michael in the next one." We might, but we might not. It isn't a spoiler to say, we don't often get the same character getting heavy focus in back-to-back episodes. This was a practical effect of having both a large cast, and a very busy shooting schedule. If they focus too much on a particular story it's both exhausting for the actor in it and it also means that you lose interest in, or forget about, the other stories happening on the island. You might have noticed some of this already, but they keep it fresh from week to week. They get us heavily invested in particular stories but they don't resolve anything immediately. The show is built around suspense. I say all of that because you might reconsider going to two episodes a week. We ask that, selfishly, because we like your reactions and are excited to see you get to some of our later, favorite episodes. There's also the practical reason, though, that it'll be easier to stay fresh on some stories that take time to resolve while you are also following one or two other plotlines. At the same time, don't go too far in the other direction. It would be a mistake to binge the show. Most of the charm is in being confused and they give you an absolute ton to be confused about. If you binge it, you risk missing a ton of details because you only have time to pay superficial attention to the show. This show benefits from taking breaks in between episodes so that you have time to think about what is confusing and remember stuff from previous episodes that might be related, and so on. You might find that two episodes a week really helps, though.

i can see why you are frustrated with jack's attitude towards walt's disappearing. but, as a lot of people have pointed out, only one week passed since he has been taken, and even less if we consider the time that jack knows about the kidnapping (he is only aware of it since michael and co have come back to the camp). he had to deal with the death of shannon, sawyer's wound and probably the fear that the group must be in. and it doesn't matter how many guns they have because they don't know where the others took him and as we can see on rousseau's map, the island is HUGE. running in circles is not gonna help especially with the others that know way more about the island than the group. also, michael's reaction is absolutely not okay. locking two people that could've been such a big help, stealing a gun then go wandering in the enemy's territory without any idea where to look??? this is the best way to NOT find your son and get yourself killed of course, you are free to have your opinion, but i do think it is important to have all the pieces love ur reactions to lost, can't wait to see more!!!!!!

Q: Why do you believe that Ethan was teamed up with Roussou? (Actually asking, because I don't remember anything in the series that would give that impression, but then I haven't watched the series itself since it first aired). But what I remember, was that Roussou, whose baby had been taken, believed that the Others were coming for Claire's baby, because she overheard something about coming for the child... and she thought she could make a trade. I don't recall anything about any collaboration with Ethan.

In theory, I agree with you, TheLexiCrowd : Kate has the right to go or not go with them and Jack shouldn't try to control her But actually what happened with Jack refusing Kate to come with them and Kate following them secretly was PERFECT because as stubborn as Jack is, he would never put down the weapon, it could have gone very badly for everyone BUT the fact Kate followed them and get caught by the Others forced Jack to step down You can turn the situation in every senses, things would have turned badly : Let's imagine Kate did not want to go with them : Jack, Sawyer and John would be surrounded exactly as they have been but Jack wouldn't drop down the weapons... In the episode, he did not want to listen to Locke and he wouldn't either in that case, Kate wouldn't be used as a way to put pressure on Jack in order to make him drop down the weapons If Kate wanted to go with them and Jack does not oppose her decision, they would have all been surrounded, and here again, Jack wouldn't drop down the weapons, Kate wouldn't be used as a way to put pressure on Jack in order to make him drop down the weapons, then she wouldn't have changed the game The only possibility to avoid the massacre was exactly what we saw in the episode : Kate wanting to go with them, Jack opposes her decision to come, Kate decides she goes with them anyway but following them secretly, Jack, Locke and Sawyer are surrounded, Jack refuses to drop down the weapons, they show they've got Kate and put pressure on Jack, threatening to kill her That is the only way things could turn well

First off, yes. Jack can be an ass. BUT! I think he didn’t want Kate to come with because he knew he was going to go for it vs. the others. Until Kate showed up, Jack was not backing down, and there felt like no hesitation in him too. He was putting his, and Locke/Sawyer, life on the line in that moment. And the only thing that could have stopped him was knowing Kate could be hurt.

I think Sarahs reasons for leaving Jack are valid when you look at it. He always needs someone or something to fix. That makes him controlling, compulsive, impulsive and jealous. She shouldn’t have cheated on him of course (that only made him worse in later relationships because now he also has trust issues) but I get her reasons. I love how you pointed out that Jack is really unfair to Kate this episode and how he is very controlling towards her, which also goes back to his need to fixing things I believe. Kate is a free spirit and she’s troubled but Jack being controlling over her is the worst thing he can do for her no matter if it comes from a good place from him or not. He should let her make her own decisions and stop telling her what to do. I think this episode really highlight the ways in which Sawyer understands and accepts Kate a lot better than Jack does. He’s not mad that she went after them he understands why cause he would do the same thing in her position. He’s not mad that she blew their search for Michael by going after them, he’s just glad she didn’t get hurt. In the scene where “Zeke” brings Kate out you see the reactions of Jack and Sawyer are perfectly showing their stand point with her. Jack is so pissed he can’t even look at her and Sawyer is immediately threatening to kill the guy who has Kate at gunpoint. Kate doesn’t really go to Sawyer when they let her go as much as she gets shoved in his arms but she stays close to him indicating he makes her feel safe(r). A small little detail I love that kind of goes on in the background is that Sawyer stops caring about going after Michael as soon as Kate is with him. He unties her and he holds her close to him as if he’s scared they’re gonna take her away again. While Jack and “Zeke” are talking you can see in the background that Sawyer is talking to Kate making sure she’s okay and he kisses her head. Really small but really sweet moment between those two that I absolutely adore. Jin and Sun finally communicating and healing their marriage is also one of my favourite parts of this episode they are so cute.

The thing about Jack and Sarah is, do we know how many times during their marriage that Jack may have shown repeated patterns of trying too hard to save everyone? Sarah should not have cheated, but she was obviously exhausted with Jack's determination to fix everyone, which may have made Sarah feel less special?

The kind of people who are obsessed with a button that must also be pressed by others even if they don't see the point. The kind of people who decide the others can't leave the island by knocking out Sayid. Another question, John?😊
