Since there are fourteen Estonian cases it's so good when you separate the words to show them in their natural form and give the translation. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for these videos! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the language so that I can get around. My choir might be going to Estonia for a Choir Festival and Tour probably in Tallinn and I'm researching as much on the culture as I can! It's definitely a beautiful language, but still a bit difficult! As a Opera Performance major, they emphasize the importance of Western European languages (Italian, French, German, Latin and Spanish), but not much else! Still, I'm learning a lot and it's quite a beautiful language!!

Hello, I am from the USA but will be spending a month in Estonia this summer. I was hoping you could give me some advice on what I should bring as a gift for my host family and what I absolutely have to do while visiting there. Also, how different is the clothing style in Estonia from the USA?

Ok so tere ohtust is good evening as a greeting and head ood is goodnight as like a goodbye? Could you also say tere ohtust when leaving someone for the evening?
@LittleMissSquirrel10 жыл бұрын
sorry, what do you mean by the question when leaving someone for the evening. Tere- hello, you can't use it to say bye in any situations. It is only meant for greeting.
@kozmikkarma10 жыл бұрын
Ok so I guess what I'm asking is, for example you're leaving a restaurant in the evening would would say head ööd to the waiter that helped you or tere ohtust or head ohtut, or would all 3 be acceptable?
@LittleMissSquirrel10 жыл бұрын
no, head ööd is good nigh as (sleep well) said only when someone is going to bed

Hey, miss! I've heard Estonia is one of the most atheist countries around the world. Does it make sense if I use "Jumalaga!" for atheist people? In Brazil, we say a lot: "Vai com Deus", which means "May God be with you".
@LittleMissSquirrel7 жыл бұрын
If you think this is not good to use in certain situations you can use 'hüvasti' which has the same meaning of saying bye to someone who goes really far and most likely you will never meet again. Really, we use these rarely as normally you wont need to use such strong bye :)
@jeffnunes7417 жыл бұрын
Thaaanks! I am just concerned people might think I'm some 'weirdo' for saying goodbye with God. it's not happening, is it? Hahaha. Tks again, miss!

Trying to impress my Estonian girlfriend, I said "und" to her hoping she would understand that I was wishing her to sleep well. However she told me the correct form is "head und" as und on it's own doesn't mean absolutely nothing.
@pilotoliveryt2 жыл бұрын
Well, it's like for example you would say "Good sleep" in English, then just "und" would mean basically "sleep" but in a case

My wife told me that "good night" is not Head Aega, but "head òòd". That " head aega" is more used for farewell or like good bye expressions. But anyways i follow your lessons and find them very interesting and useful for my further study of your beautiful language and my deepest compliments for your nice voice....... also from my wife:) cheers!!

Thx you you very much! really i'll do as much as possible.. you know, italian peoples, and in general, the people from the big countries, learn much slowly other languages. I've noticed this in my experience..(french speak only french, german only deuche, etc..). But me i'm even maltese (eh eh!) and before we go back in Estonia, the next time (early i hope)I MUST SPEAK ESTONIAN! Last think: i have insert your lessons on mine e-site! lamiatallinn (mine Tallinn) Bye Bye! Thx you! :-)

sorry but "tere öhtust" and "head öhutut" have the same meaning?
@LittleMissSquirrel9 жыл бұрын
+l'elfo musicista HI! no, "tere õhtut" is a greeting "head õhtut" is used when one leaves. I know it is confusing because in English it would literally translate "good evening" good- hea evening - õhtu.... but think of the "head õhtut" as a "have a good evening" that is more accurate correct translation.

I knew I chose the right language to learn from especially if most e-stonian women are as pretty as yourself. I want to know if you are married and your husband is probably the luckiest in the world.......... Ma teadsin, et ma valisin õiget keelt õppida eriti kui enamik e-stonian naised on nii ilus kui ise.
