My dad passed on January 4. He was a general contractor and woodworker for 40+ years. Looking through some of his things has been therapeutic. Let's see what in his old-school EDC.

Sorry for your loss. A good father is so under rated in today's world. I hope we can get back to a time where we recognize that.

I know how you feel about your dad's stuff; how it expresses his character and the memories attached to these items. I lost my father a long time ago (1993, I'm almost your dad's age) but every time I pick up one of his tools it triggers memories I want to hold onto and physically reminds me that he was here.

Funny what dads keep in their pockets and how much their sons care. My dad carried tons in his pockets, I still have all of what he carried. I know how hard it is to lose one, but their stuff and the memory of how they used it will keep them, him, alive always. Take care.

Thanx for sharing. I still have my dad but what you said about yours and his tools resonate deeply with me. My Dad is an electrician and incredible jack of all crafts. I have been following in his footsteps my entire life. We share a love for tools and I have allready gotten many tools handed down from my dad, who he inherited from his dad. For us, the tools of our choice is basicly extensions of ourselves. And I can feel the connection to both him and my granddad whenever I use them!

Very cool thanks for sharing these memories of your father with us. I lost my dad in 2000 but I'm close to your dad's age now but my dad had similar stuff, the old 3 blade pocket knife, wood pencil for marking stuff, just no frills get the work done man. He was in WW2 and had lived through the Great Depression and that generation knew how to stretch a dollar. But he kept his pocket knives razor sharp too and taught us a dull knife is a dangerous knife. Anyway good stuff thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this, and condolences on your father's passing. I had to smile when I saw the Cross pen because my father carried one just like that, and now I use that same pen every day. My dad's other EDC kit consisted of a Bayer Asprin tin for a few medications, a spiral-bound pocket notebook, a pocket measuring tape very much like that one, and either a small Victorinox or a "Trim-Trio" pocketknife. He also kept a small 110 or 35mm camera, a larger Swiss Army pocketknife, and a space blanket in a Little Playmate cooler he used as his weekday lunchbox. Better prepared than sorry!

Very sorry for your loss. Sadly, still a lot of folks out there who treat Covid as a joke. A.T. Cross is still around. But the quality has dipped considerably in the last decade or so. Your father's gold mechanical pencil and chrome ballpoint look like examples from the earlier years of production. Bought my mother a white matte Cross ballpoint a few years before the quality started slipping. She still carries and uses it. I EDC Field Notes too. And it seems every few years I buy a new Leatherman Micra. Got a new one in the mail literally days ago. Just a fantastic EDC multi-tool.

I'm very sorry for your loss. As I watched your video, I could not help but see that I carry just about all those items as well. Have been for many years. I am 59 years old and I work maintaining and fixing signal equipment for the railroad. Maybe it is the time period we were raised in. I dont know, but I carry a Leatherman, 2 pocket knives, a big one such as that Dewalt, and a small Case. I also carry a notepad and a pen and mechanical pencil. I prefer the mechanical pencil. The way you described your dad is just about a good description of myself. At any rate, you are lucky to have all that EDC stuff from your dad. Carrying your dad's EDC is a way to keep his memory very close to your heart. God bless you sir. I have also subscribed to your channel. Your knives are AWESOME. Christmas day 2022 marked 68 and 1/2 years for me. I still remember as a young lad taking my blind, double amputee Grandfather (WW1 veteran, coast artillery) out to the attached garage. He would fill his pipe with Half & Half tobacco and grab a smoke while I set up to play mumbly peg with his two-blade pocket knife. Once he was aligned with the wood plank, he could consistently flip that knife and score. I am thinking there will be a lot of quality videos on your channel so my next step will be to hit that subscribe button. I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. I lost my father last year. I'll never forget what that felt like. It was the spiritual equivalent of having the wind knocked out of me like I couldn't breathe, and a whole part of me went missing, leaving this kind of hollow cavity. This was a great idea for a video.

Hey Chad, firstly, no matter how much time has passed, I am sorry for your loss. I stumbled across this video, and I'm glad to watch this beautiful and somehow historic layout of your dad's EDC. I'm a city boy and after my dad had a heart attack during the recession in 2008 he was forced to sell all his workshop equipment. Likewise, I am very sad about this, as I will not have the opportunity to go over his old items, but when I found a small blue metal box with some tools remaining I was really happy and got tears in my eyes. My dad is still alive, but not in good condition. I would also like to mention the importance of your dad's work. My goal is to one day move to the states, especially the south. Alabama or Tennessee, so the possibility that I will one day live in a place where your dad's work and influence came across is not low. His legacy lives on. Thank you and best regards from Germany Milad

Sad to know that your dad passed away this Jan. due to Covid-19; part of his life is reflected in the EDC content that he built so thoughtfully and will ever remain with you as sweet memories. Take care man.

Case Russlock, a very fine knife. Not so common, one of cases first designed for one handed operation, I enjoy mine. Seems we treasure the simple things the most. Thanks for sharing, not an easy thing to do with such fresh heartache, God Bless and keep you and yours sir.

Eerily similar I lost my dad 20 days after you did he was hospitalized and got covid whilst in the hospital and the day after he was off quarantine he past he was spiraling down hill already unfortunately but I imagine covid didn’t help anything. Now that he’s gone the things I still have of his are so much more interesting and I’m still discovering new neat stuff every time I look through his things keep on keeping on man! Side note I went out and got a Stanley thermos for his final resting place because he loved coffee and now he can be part of my and my three sons adventures 🥹

I’m looking up Case Knives and found the one with the flip thing. Ordered it. This reminds me of my grandfather’s misc pocket collection. Cheers.

The Case knife on the top right is called the RussLock model. It's still being made and sold today. The nickname of the knife is the Woody Woodpecker because when the blade is opened to a particular angle it looks like Woody. True story. Thanks for the great video!

Awesome video brother! I'm sorry to hear about your father but he seemed like an amazing man and a great dad. As a carpenter myself I love the fact that he carried the Swanson speed square book. Just subbed buddy and looking forward to watching your future videos.
