This is possibly the only actually good EDC video I have ever watched. I wear shorts with ONE pocket, not cargo shorts. As the household handy man, who works on the occasional server for work, this is finally something that isn't miserable to carry. Epic job sir.

​"Nice?" If "nice" means "functional" then that makes sense. Personally, I am much more concerned with the capabilities of my EDC than with impressing anyone with "nice" tools. I am also less concerned about weight. I just weighed all my EDC, which consists of a Leatherman Wave, a Vise-Grip Toolbox, their 2 leather belt pouches, a Select-a-Bit screwdriver with 16 bits, a Kershaw Filter AO knife, a Victorinox Champion Plus, a 25 ft/7.5 meter DollarTree tape measure, a Gerber Sportsman's Steel, a Knipex 125 mm Cobra and 125 mm smooth jaw "wrench," a Model S Eze-Lap diamond sharpener, a Chapman 1/4" hex ratchet, a 1/4" bit holder with a universal joint, all in a Gerber pouch, and a lanyard consisting of 60 feet of 2 mm Dyneema (500 lb break strength) which I crocheted into a 2 foot length with stainless mini biners at each end. All together my EDC is a bit over 4 lbs, but I can do more with it than most can. The Leatherman Wave has a Volty DC voltmeter substituted for the reversible screwdriver and the Victorinox Champion has a Firefly ferrocerium fire starter substituting for the toothpick.

Excellent kit. Mines almost complete. I can say after some trial and error, the correct straw size is 10mm and the correct heat shrink tube size is 3/8-3/16 12-4 AWG.

Until I watched this video I had no idea the USB-C i1R-2-Pro was bigger than the micro USB I1R-2-EOS version. I bought the USB-C one awhile ago assuming everything was the same except the charging port. Really respect your incredible attention to detail and the thought you put into this.

I have been using my Leatherman skeletool for about 3 years now and man has it came in handy for 100s of uses. Carry it everyday. As it wears and is all scratched up. It just keeps on working. It’s the Glock of multi tools.

After watching this, I had a blast redoing my carry. It's now based in a Chums Daily Carry Wallet. On the front are a couple bandages, some sheets of Rite in the Rain paper, and a couple quarters (for Aldi). On the important side, I carry the Victorinox Bantam, a Leatherman PS with the 3D Bit Holder mod from eBay, the pen in the video, and a couple handy Leatherman bits in a piece of unshrunk heat shrink tubing. The pen is just a bit longish, but not enough to cause a problem. This kit is SO lightweight and convenient! Thanks for the inspiration, Todd! (I like the Chums wallet so much I got one of the Surfshorts wallets to use as my normal wallet, after removing the keyring. Main credit card goes in that pocket, other non-cash stuff (like a Fresnel lens and a hedgehog metal comb/tool) goes in the window side, and cash in the last side.)

My favorite EDC minimalist pen is the Stow Away Space Pen, from Fisher Space Pen👍 (about $17)! It's aluminum, and is 3.9" closed, 5.13" open, and its only .25" wide, which is just fractionally larger than the Fisher pressurized ink cartridge itself. It weighs .2oz. The famous pressurized ink cartridge writes upside dow, under water, through grease, in -30˚F -> +250˚F, in the vacuum of space, and lasts many times longer than regular inc cartridges. This is paraphrased from the info that comes with the pen, but I've carried one larger Space Pen version for 20+ years (the same pen!), and I've done all the things it claims to do, (except for that outer space and +250˚F thing 😜👍) and its' never skipped a beat!

About the bandaids, i allways put in my EDCs a bigger bandaid stripe, the type that is like 10cm long and you can cut off from it vertically any size bandaids you want since you allready got the scissors.

Thanks for putting this video together, I could see you put a lot of thought into this to Kit. I have been caring a dedicated pair of pliers and a dedicated pair of scissors for many years it’s just something I’ve always done. I never really focused on minimizing the weight as much as you did but I just found that the utility is hard to beat. In the last couple of years it feels like the entire world has caught onto something that I’ve been doing for 20 years and it’s kind of exciting to see your entire generation of people start to discover something that you’ve always been doing. On the subject of the Swiss army knife, I’ve been carrying a Victorinox alox farmer for probably 20 years and have never damaged the blade yet. I’m pretty hard on a knife and that’s not the only knife I carry admittedly… But these Victorinox knives are actually a lot tougher than people give them credit for. Obviously that blade is not a pry bar but neither is the blade on any of the other knives you mentioned. I find that if you are using it as intended, as a knife to cut things that a Swiss army knife like the bantam or my farmer will do just fine for anything you would want to cut. I cut rope and cardboard and rubber and saplings and all sorts of stuff with it I’ve used it for carving and it’s still able to shave hair with just a few strokes on a sharpening stone. I don’t really worry that much about absolute minimalization of weight, I probably should but I don’t. Probably because I’m constantly trying out new gear and switching things out so that makes it tough. I probably own six or seven different small pair of pliers and three or four different small ratchets. I own several small adjustable wrenches and number of pocket knives and small drivers etc. and they just get swapped in and out all the time because I enjoy variety. One thing I carry that I never leave home without and I never see anybody else carrying one, it doesn’t weigh very much and I just keep it in the coin pocket on my pants or the watchpocket you might call it is a small tape measure. I just find myself using it all the time to see if things that I want to buy will fit in the car or maybe if they’re going to fit in my house in a certain spot… You just can’t imagine how many times you’re “like let me measure that” recently I also started playing around with carrying a pocket caliper, I’m not sure that’s something long-term that will stay with me but the tape measure for sure will, that’s something I’ve carried for 20 years. Only very recently have I tried the knipex Pliers, I would say they’re pretty nifty… It is nice that they’re a little bit lighter weight but they’re really expensive for what they are. I’m not sure I bought mine but I wouldn’t say that if you own some other high-quality pocket-size pliers that it’s necessarily worth spending 2 to 3 times as much to go out and get them unless you’re just a mini tool enthusiast like me. Even I resisted it for years just based on the outrageous cost.

Awesome video! I have exactly the same Knipex Cobra pliers and wallet. In my case, I have the Victorinox Compact SAK which includes a combo tool, scissors, blade, pen, nail file, hook, toothpick, corkscrew and tweezers. Instead of the Leatherman bits and standalone ratchet driver I have the Victorinox’s equivalent from the Swiss Tool which is also a ratchet driver with extension bar incorporated which also comes with bits. Such a well-done video! Truly inspiring, and I have modeled my own new kit after yours. One observation I've made after the fact though is that the Topeak ratchet is definitely the better option: I started with the Prestacycle ratchet before discovering that it's 21mm longer (and heavier too) than the Topeak one, so it sticks out rather obnoxiously even without a bit preinstalled.

I'm 66 years old and walking my dog nearly every day, usually 3-5 miles. I miss about 8-12 days a year. It might seem that I'm carrying a lot, but I need to get in better shape. And I've used most of it at one time or another. My EDC varies by season, but here it is this summer. Pocket knife, sidearm, spare mag, keys, wallet with ID, insurance cards, cash and credit, wide brimmed hat, lighter Two handed leash with attached dog crap bags Backpack with nearly five liters of water in steel containers bowl for the dog treats for me and the dog spare socks bandana knee and ankle wrap just in case bottle opener ten yards paracord, fifty yards nylon mason line two one inch polyester straps with clips, about five feet long assortment of band aids safety pin needle, thread, two buttons screwdriver with 6 bits adjustable wrench snowflake multitool spare leashes, one at 6 feet, one at 20 feet poncho flashlight with 2 D cells Mylar "space" blanket half roll of electrical tape backup pocket knife 450 grit diamond sharpener magnesium block with ferro rod Fresnel lens baseball cap small pack of wipes two lightweight carabiners The load out weighs 27 pounds. It is great exercise. While wearing the pack I can pick up dog crap , I can get onto the ground to sit with my dog, I can get back up again. I've used most of this stuff including the tools. What do I need a wrench the snowflake multitool and a screwdriver? The wrench and multitool, I helped a kid with his bike in the park, the screwdriver, one of my neighbors needed something adjusted. I have yet to set up for overnight. One time I was first at a car accident and used my coat to cover someone going into shock. Now I have the Mylar. Not going to trash another coat. Go with what works for you.!

Cool video - I was thinking of making a similar one myself. I have been a Swiss Army Knife fan for 50 years and prefer them to the Leatherman tools I have owned, accepting the lack of pliers. One tool I find indispensable on a mostly daily basis is a metal file. I like Vallorbe files which you buy without handles. They are a little long for a pocket EDC but so worth it for so many tasks.

Update: Yes, I know about the Victorinox Compact, Cybertool, Pioneer, etc. but none of them were worth the extra weight/cost to get scissors. It's simpler, sure but not as optimized for the toolset I need. Thanks for all the recs! I forgot to add overlays with the weights of everything in grams so. I’ve added weights of all the tools in both ounces and grams in the video description. I’m a huge fan of metric and did all my research and calculations in grams but ended up using ounces for my US audience. Let’s admit it, metric is superior.

Great little tool kit! I like your presentation, and the way you explained your decisions and edc philosophy. One major upgrade that I would humbly suggest is exchanging BofA for a local credit union. I made the swap more than a decade ago and have been very happy. Tt was a nice way to trade the negative aspects of giant multinational corporations for a member owned organization that provides better service at a better price and puts my money to work locally. Weight is everything, whether on a small plane or a pocket EDC!! I got a scabbard off Amazon bought a Leatherman Wave, a Wuben flashlight & tactical pen for what I call, “Dry Camping”. Stargazing in a truck camper by any other name & it served me well. I tried to EDC it but it’s too heavy & pulls my pants down. Suspenders fixes the issue but too much of a hassle. I’ll give yours a try. A good follow up video with a much bigger budget would be appreciated. The goal: to get the weight down further & increase the functionality by increasing the quality of the tools & materials. Maybe some titanium & some 3D printed holders ( the why for a bigger budget if you have to purchase the means of production or commission the work-if it’s not too small a job for them). I’m amazed at how often I use mine to replicate plastic pieces that break off all the time off the cheaply made items we buy now a days. Well produced video too.

Love it You might consider heat shrink wrapping that Victorinox pen and seeing if the ergo is any better. Add in a shrink tube cap and a small pen clip (scavenged from another pen or just a piece of spring steel), and I think it might do the job. Might want to rough up the outside of the pen with fine sandpaper for better grip

As an on again/off again EDC junkie, I must say this video is refreshing. Most of these EDC channels are pimping expensive equipment, and redundant loadouts that are too bulky & too heavy. It's entertaining, but it doesn't actually help get people to actually start carrying EDC items. This is literally the first video I've seen that makes me believe someone might actually start carrying some, if not all, of the items in the video.

I get a lot of offers to show those fancy titanium prybars and machined brass pens and I think they’re expensive (and heavy) toys that don’t earn their place in my pocket. Although minimal weight is not my highest priority, this kit, in the last iteration with the PS, looks to fit my use case nicely. The only change I'd make is adding some small zip ties, maybe a "band aid" or two, and swapping the Bantam for a pry tool. I always carry a "dedicated" knife, and I keep a P38 can opener on my keychain. I like the other two kits as well. Very well thought out.

Thanks for subscribing. The Bantam is a gem. With the Victorinox, do you have to take the bit out and flip it over to change directions? I also heard the bits fall through if you apply pressure. It was on my list until I heard stuff like that.

@@todd.parker you are right, it needs an additional piece to function and you also have to take it out to change directions. So it does not fit your requirements. I have that and some bits in the holster of my spirit multi tool (quite nice alternative to leathermans by the way) so the size did not matter so much… your recommendation seems the better fit then. Unfortunately I do not get all of the items in Germany where I live 🙂

Victorinox Compact and Leatherman Style PS cover nearly all of this with less weight and bulk. While the ratchet certainly gives you more torque and is a proper tool, you can eliminate it if the goal is weight saving. Just put the bit adapter on the Leatherman Style PS that holds all the Leatherman bits. Switching to the Victorinox Compact would give you scissors, tweezers, and a pen (you can use the hook to hold it making a full size pen). And it's still only a 2 layer SAK. This is what I'll be trying as my setup. Great video!

For all things zipper-pull and related, I strongly recommend getting into lanyard making. Whatever color, thickness, length you want. The customization options are limitless and that are virtually always a lighter option.

Thanks a lot for the inspiration! Best EDC carry I've seen so far. To my suprise most of the tools I had already, but the gamechanger is to put it together in such a tight package to have it with you all the time. Made some personal modifications with a custom "Bantam X" with scissors and full size bent tweezers, because of many ticks here with my dogs. No need for a light so this is replaced by band aid, pain relief and eyedrops. Also added a foldable mini scalpel and blank business cards for notes. Biggest challenge was to get the modern carry sleeve here in germany. Plan to exchange the Topeak ratchet to the 711L EDC ratchet for a better fit with the leatherman bits, but at the moment not available anywhere.

Great video! I wish it hadn't appeared in my recommended when I got home after a 13 hour shift because now I have to write a long comment. Like you & many others in the EDC community the Knipex Cobra XS have drawn me away from carrying a pliers based multitool. Plus I'm in the UK where we cant EDC locking blades so that limits me further. I work as a chef in a pub kitchen so at work I need quick one handed deployment for knife, pliers and even torch (flashlight). Today I carried my Cobra XS in my coin pocket (they're cool enough to let me wear jeans at work), with a Sypderco Urban clipped to the outer pocket for quick and easy one handed deployment, it's compact and light enough not to bother me during the gymnastics I have to do during a busy service. It's for quickly opening packages, I hate having to use an 8 inch Santoku knife for that! The Cobra XS is really useful too for grabbing hot things if I don't have a cloth or just one and I need to grab with 2 hands. My torch (flashlight) is the same as yours, Olight i1R 2 EOS, on a Nightize S-biner connected to another S-biner with my keys clipped on my back beltloop so I can quickly detach and use without taking my entire bunch of keys off. I had to use it this morning, I was first in and had to go down to the cellar and find the lightswitch with it, as I only started on Wednesday and didn't know where it was. Other times I drop something under a fridge and use the Olight. I don't have my phone in my pocket at work. To top that combo off I have a knockoff Geekey on my keychain which is a bottle opener and screwdriver, I've used both at work too. That's a minimalist Skeletool type setup. Sometimes I need drivers and Allens too as I ride a mountain bike and sourced a very slim blacked out bike multitool with Allens and drivers, some Dutch brand but it's probably made in China but so far so good. Okay this setup is already over the $125 (£105) budget though but it's very good. I like to have scissors too so I bought a Victorinox Moneyclip for those and secondary blade taking me further over budget lol. On days off it's generally a Victorinox Climber with black plus scales and pocket clip with the Cobra rather than my Spyderco as I don't need rapid deployment. If I'm going further afield into nature I switch the Climber for a Victorinox Farmer X. I looked at the LM Style PS but I'm not going to buy one because the scissors spring on my Squirt PS4 broke so I don't carry it any more and even before it broke I found them pretty poor, too much blade play to cut threads or thin plastic, and no good for cutting paracord or cardboard either. Finally the pen, working in a kitchen having a pocket pen is a must as the communal pens just disappear. I bought a German made ''Online'' ballpoint on Amazon a while back, it's only just over 2 inches long, with a pocket clip, and made from some kind of metal although not stainless. Cost about the equivalent of 5 USD. On days off I have the pen in my Vic Climber for very occasional emergency use. Most of the above are made in Europe high quality items. I mix and match as I have a lot of other gear but recently those are my most common EDC combos. Altogether not cheap but te

@@todd.parker I would have sent my Squirt in under warrantly too but according to LM's website they send you a Micra back not a Squirt. I may still do it though actually as the Micra isn't bad.

I chose an Alox Bantam a few years ago and it is by far the best EDC item. I used to have a much bigger SAK but it was too heavy and bulky for comfort, and fiddly to use. The Bantam gets used every day, even if sometimes it's only to open my beer.

The Topeak ratchet can be found at some auto parts stores as a stand-alone item under a different brand (the name escapes me now, sorry) for about US$14-15.

I have one in each car and in my garage toolbox and junk drawer in my house. Way more useful for getting into tight places and driving screws into wood in places you can't reach with a drill. I Just bought one at O'Reilly's yesterday for my new job. Cost is now around $19 now.

Have really bought in to this idea. I ordered the knipex pliers and the wonderful victorinox bantam. Actually decided I didn’t need a ratchet so got the victorinox screwdriver set for the Swiss tools. Found a perfect Italian leather “key holder” that after some persuading is freed up inside. Deciding on scissor and torch options now. Thank you so much for putt8ng me on this path as I feel this will serve me very well for years to come. ❤

It's a shame Victorinox don't make a Bantam with scissors or indeed any other 84mm Vic with scissors, I'm sure they'd sell very well, but apparently the machine for making these broke and they are not replacing it. A Victorinox Classic is very light at 21g or 3/4 oz, and has small but very capable scissors, much better than the Leatherman Style PS/Squirt scissors you see here. The Classic SD in alox is even lighter and slimmer, but you lose the toothpick and tweezers. Another nice Victorinox which is very slim due to it's smooth alox scales is the 74mm Moneyclip, it has the same toolset as the Classic but all a bit bigger, especially the blade, and it only weighs 28g. I have the same torch as you see here, it's £15 if you are in the UK, I keep mine on my keychain, I recommend it.

Really helpful video. As a backpacker, weight and volume are both critical. I am not ultra-light as I want the ability to fix broken gear in the field. I've carried a Leatherman for years but started seeing EDC content and realized having the pliers and screw driver on same tool was very limiting.

Lots of nice tools here, I EDC most of these myself. The problem I see with setting up a kit in this manner is that once you pull one of the larger tools out, everything loses its retention in the kit. I go with a larger pack that sits on my belt so every tool has individual retention, even the bits. Not having to pull the pack out of a pocket also goes a long way when you are crawling around somewhere and need to access a single tool.

Awesome video! For a 1/4 bit driver/rachet, I’ve found the Fix-it-Sticks locking rachet T handle to be the best there is out there in terms of versatility, size, and durability. Breaks down super small, each part can be used individually for tight areas, and when used all together it can put down just about as much torque as my full sized hand tools.

You should try the Victorinox Compact! 🔥 Probably the best EDC pocket knife (from Victorinox, besides the smaller classic). Pretty hard to come by though. It has everything you need, including scissors, a pen and small fine screwdriver for glasses and it's only 2 layers thicc! I'm carrying one for more than 10 years now with black scales. Pretty and pretty useful without extra unnecessary tools.

Great video, the kit you’ve put together is awesome. But for my personal use cases I’d make quite a few changes… 1. Ditch the SAK and get a proper pocket knife with a pocket clip, and carry it independently from the rest of the kit. There are SO many times when being able to quickly retrieve, deploy and close a knife with one hand is too convenient to pass up. I carry the Bugout which is an amazing knife under 2 ounces but yes it is unfortunately pretty pricy. Another benefit of this is that you can leave the knife at home if you’re going on a plane without altering your kit. 2. I would ditch the bits/ratchet. If I biked as you do I probably wouldn’t, but I don’t so I barely ever find a need for that stuff outside of my home, where I already have tools for those jobs in my closet. 3. I would ditch the mini flashlight and once again get a larger one with a clip on it. I think mini flashlights are really bad in these setups for a number of reasons. For one, digging around for a flashlight inside of a kit with other tools is annoying in the dark. Two, you’re more likely to drop it because it’s so tiny. Three, underwhelming output/battery life. Four, a pocket flashlight with a clip not only fits in your pocket, but many have a two-way pocket clip that also attaches to the brim of a hat for hands-free use. Basically, a pocket flashlight with a clip is just better in every way and worth carrying separately IMO. I personally use and love the Streamlight Microstream. 4. I would add in a mini external battery pack, like Nitecore’s new 5,000 mAh battery that is very small and includes a two-way USB-C port. With this I’d pair a Charge X multi-pronged mini cable. This setup would allow me to charge my phone, flashlight and more. This is definitely more so for my use cases since I often wish I could get a little more juice into my phone or Kindle on the go…less tool-oriented and more tech oriented. I’m not 100% sure this would fit but I think it maybe could. 5. I also use the Style PS, it’s a fantastic little tool. Mine is modded with a little 3D-printed part that holds Leatherman bits. I still barely ever use it as a driver, but the bits add a good bit (lol) of extra versatility. 6. I’d carry a couple band-aids and maybe an alcohol wipe. Takes up basically 0 space and there have been numerous occasions where I wish I’d had that stuff available. I think it’s fun to see what you can pack into a really small kit, but remember that some stuff just becomes infinitely better and more usable (in my humble opinion) if you’re willing to carry it separately. You’re going to have extra space in your pockets anyway, use some of it for a couple of proper standalone tools. Just my 2 cents.

Wonderful video. Despite my age (75) or perhaps because of it, I’m delusional enough to think I need all this stuff. But all these trinkets are all so darn much fun! And I’ve become addicted to KZbin videos-or shall I say the channels of certain presenters-that entertain and inform. And within those parameters your clip is entirely enjoyable. And the kit you’ve assembled is, IMHO, a far better companion than any multi tools I’ve seen. I admit I regard the majority of multi tools as clever. Their designers are successful at getting (as my father would say) two pounds of manure in a one pound bag. ( He didn’t say manure, by the way). But………the tools are cumbersome and half the tools included I don’t need. So good onya for demonstrating what can be done by exercising your brain as well as your credit card.

God rec. You’re right this is probably the closest thing in a Victorinox and it’s only a bit heavier if you get the medium size. It looked very thick so I didn’t seem very pocketable. Good choice if you want an all in one but my setup is thinner and has more tools I need (flashlight, rachet, 10 more bits).

You might look at a switch to a victorinox compact knife. It would eliminate the need for the tweezers, scissors, and pen.(It also adds a small file, a hook and a straight pin. It is 2.6 oz This is what i use in my small pocket kit. similar to yours but I use a small net bag. I also use the 2 piece ratchet you showed. i also recommend an old credit card with a bit of 1" gaffer's tape or duct tape. as an addition. Good reviews out their on the compact. For additional versatility I add the Knipex smallest pliers wrench. A little more weight but comes in handy too.

The gaffers tape is a fantastic idea. I always wrap some around my walking stick. It has come in handy a lot. The pen in the swisstool is not very useful. He talks about that around the 11 minute mark. It might be better than nothing in a pinch though.

Good tip on carrying some gaffers tape. Love that stuff. I spend days pouring over the Victorinox site and past models on eBay trying to find the perfect mix of tools. I just feel like most SAKs have too many random tools I don’t need. The Compact is a good one but I personally don’t need the corkscrew, hook, and pen (I found a much better one). I really wish they made a Bantan X Alox with scissors - that would be perfect.

@todd.parker I keep the smallest Victorinox Alox in my pocket. It is really amazing how much smaller the alox knives are compared to the normal ones. Plus they are more durable. The small alox is great as a prybar to open bottles, can’t really do that with the plastic sides.

That's awesome! Good price point, amazing weight reduction. Knipex are great. I gotta edc a good-sized flashlight & a couple full size pens. The SAK Bantam driver tool clicks at 90° for leverage as does the large screwdriver on the Tinker, which I just picked up. SAK has spare tweezers you can get, inexpensive. Niteize makes prytool with ratchet.There are scissors on the Lighter bro, their small. A walletninja makes a great ice scraper. Lanyards with beads are a great addition on knives & flashlights. I do carry a Viperade type pouch for stuff & a Chums pouch for tiny stuff. Grimsworkshop makes alot of great wallet tool cards. I don't worry about weight, I distribute edc around in different pockets.

@@todd.parker Got an update on this one; we have several O'Reilly Autoparts in town and I had a $20 in my wallet yesterday so I got one of the tools above from there. It's basically Identical to ToPeak model. Only difference I can see is just the finish. ToPeak has had edges of the groves in the handle softened a bit and it appears a little more mat colored but that's about it. I don't have a small precision scale to measure weight so yeah.. I personally feel like ToPeak purchased the tools from the same manufacturer as O'Reilly's "Power Torque" did, polished it more and changed an additional $15+ for it. The Bits on the ToPeak are marked as S2 tool steel and the O'Reilly's aren't but personally I'd rather have the cheaper tool and buy the better bits myself or use the better ones I already have. On a side note, with the ToPeak being designed for a Bicycle tool the bits are matched for that purpose. The Bits for with the O'Reilly are more generalized with 3 of your most common Phillips, 1 flathead marked SL 5, and then 3 hex head bits 4/5/6. The part I like the most about the bit set is the 1/4 inch Socket adapter (because Automotive) that comes with it. Well, hope this helps a bit. I figured it was worth a shot considering the online reviews and if I decide I don’t need/want it I can gift it to my Father for Father's day lol, he's a DIY Tinkerer as well with a hell of a lot more skill and knowledge as I do so he might like it.

That EDC idea is new to me and I just don’t get it. Say I was a handy person I would bring a professional tool box with me. Being just an ordinary guy it maybe happened to me 2 or 3 times in my life when I would need all that stuff. Maybe Swiss knife as the exception. But I would never carry all that stuff around every day on the off change I might need it in the distant future. But I guess its more a hobby thing. So fair enough

I agree with you; I also don't see the point of carrying that stuff as a primary EDC layer. If you need those tools on a daily basis, you should carry the proper ones; otherwise, relegate them to a secondary or tertiary EDC layer. However, as a homeowner, I do see the value in including a screwdriver in my EDC. My kids' toys frequently run out of batteries, and many require a Philips screwdriver to access the battery compartment. Additionally, things around the house often come loose, and without an easily accessible screwdriver, I tend to delay fixing them, which leads to forgetfulness. Since 99% of these screws are Philips head, a regular Philips screwdriver usually suffices. On the rare occasion that a different head is needed, I simply retrieve the necessary tool from my toolbox.

@@Trooper266At the end of the day, everyone’s every day carry is just about personal preference. Some people like having certain tools in their pocket, some don’t and prefer it in a tool bag. Obviously a lot of these decisions on weight and price seem more like a ‘challenge’ more than a hard-nosed must have criteria, but even if you view it that way I fail to see how this is harder to cope with than others that carry 100+ dollar fidget toys, tops, challenge coins, lanyard beads etc in their edc or people carrying 400+ dollar pocket knives that are too afraid to use them to hurt their value. At least be these have function and would be used if a task came available. Isn’t that the goal of edc?

Great video! I assembled a similar EDC featherweight kit. I use the Leatherman PS with an add-on. A pummel/ Leatherman bit holder made via a 3-D printer (found it on Etsy). I keep a double-sided Phillips-slot bit in the pummel and i can carry additional Leatherman bits if needed. Shaved a few ounces if the ratchet isn't a requirement. Cheers!

Thanks for your great, entertaining video. :) I have a few alternatives as a suggestion. The Victorinox Cybertool M or L (I have the L because of the saws, and I love it). I have had it on my belt for very many years, in a Victorinox leather pouch, and absolutely cannot do without it. The very small ballpoint pen can be clamped to the hook of the Victorinox Cybertool to write very well with it. In addition, the Cybertool has a bit holder and 4 bits in addition. The pliers are better than any tweezers. Absolutely precise and you can hold every single hair with it and also, if you want the pull out with root. Very useful for splinters of any kind. In addition, there is a wire cutter on the pliers and a way to crimp ferrules. Since there is already a very good scissors installed, you can do without the other. As an alternative for a second scissors, look at the pen scissors "SC-130P Plus". They cut really well and are very compact. Even as a left-hander I have no problems with it. Last but not least, a classic ballpoint pen "Fisher Space Pen Bullet" with clip. As an alternative to your lamp selection, I would like to mention the inexpensive "FreeLionVon S11". How was it again, Nasa has invested millions of US dollars in the development of a ballpoint pen, which also writes in space. The Russians just used a pencil. ;) I just subscribed to your channel! I absolutely love my Victorinox Bantam. I have the resin scale version, because I love SAK tweezers and I swapped out the toothpick with a ferro rod.

Todd Parker - The Victorinox Compact has the tweezers, scissors, and the pen. It also has a toothpick, hook with nail file, corkscrew, micro flat-blade screwdriver and a pin. Yes, the pen is the same as the Swiss Card, but it can be clamped in the frame with the hook, allowing you to write as though it were a normal pen. For a two-layer 91mm pocketknife it's quite a multitool. It's 25 grams heavier, and the difference in cost comes to $12, but it makes for a more practical versatile toolkit, nice and tight at 4 tools and bits. If you really want to save some milligrams, you can remove the split ring.

Yep, lots of people are suggesting the Compact and I agree it's probably the closest all in one but for me, I don't need the corkscrew, hook, and the pen isn't very comfortable (cool trick btw). The Bantam (knife + combo tool) + Style PS (pliers, scissors, file, file) + rachet + micro pen fits super well in my wallet and gives me more robust tools across the board. I know I'm sacrificing the simplicity of one tool but it lets me dial things in.

Im using a pouch that goes round my waist at the moment. An idea i resisted for a long time, nor sure why. Ive found i can carry a few more things and i really dont feel them, often forgetting fhey are there. The temptation to add more is strong and id end up with a rucksack if not careful. So a fun thing I learned working on japanese large format graphic equipment is that if you grind down the tip of a #1 phillips like you did for the ratchet, it becomes a perfect fit on the JIS screws commonly used on the big printers and cutters

Great video! I am working on a small tool kit for when more then a Leatherman P2 or P4 is required. It will be a bit more robust with 6" Knipex pliers. I bought a few small screwdrivers that use 1/4" bits to pair with the pliers but as of yet am not satisfied. The small ratchet with bit holder is a great idea! It may be just what I have been looking for.

I like the Victorinox ratchet and extender. I customised a Victorinox manager with Titanium scales to effectively become an Alox rambler which is great utility to size. I put the pen from the manager in my wallet and can nestle it in the bottle opener of the Rambler to become a full size pen.

Yes! I love the mindset here. True creativity. And your priorities surrounding weight/bulk are spot on for men's edc. I have been liking the EverRatchet Clip Ratcheting Keychain Multitool/Prybar for a lightweight bit driver solution. I rubber banded a double headed 1/4" hex shank micro screwdriver bit to it and carry in my watch pocket.

@@zazeechmoreno I just tested with a BOSCH ITBH601 6" magnetic bit holder from my toolbox. Worked fine as it's the same 1/4" hex as any standard bit. The cool part was that as it is hex almost all the way down, you can slide the Everratchet down the shank and let the now protruding extender press into your palm, applying more downforce than you'd get with just your thumb on top of the small bit. Plus, you can pinch the part below to keep it from withdrawing out of the ratchet, which you have to watch when just using the integrated short bit. I think the turning motion is more natural like that too. I'd be hard pressed to carry the extension, but it seems to have some advantages beyond just the reach factor, which was good too.

At last a thought through EDC. Pretty much the perfect EDC. Low weight and good functionality and small so you can actually carry it. Thanks you've done some of the research I've been meaning to do. Don't normally comment of videos but well done

I found the Topeak Ratchet Stick at REI on sale for $25. It stores 5 bits in the handle, making it even more convenient. If you can find it at that price, it is a steal! The Knipex are great and so is the Leatherman Style PS (TSA safe). Not sure about weight or how picky you are about scissors, but the Gerber Armbar Drive has a nice driver that takes normal bits, scissors, a good 2 ½" blade, strong pry bar/bottle opener, hammer head, and awl. A bit heavy though. That plus the Knipex might meet most of your needs...

One of the best edc vids out there. You've given so many ideas. I pocket carry a victorinox Swiss champ, which has basically all of my bases covered for EDC tool needs. It's got your pen, tweezers, scissors, Pliers, knives as well as numerous other very useful tools. It may be a tad bulky for some, but I just love the damn thing and I get joy every time I use it.

Just in case you don't know yet: the 711L ratchet is the smallest and lightest at 0.6 oz and 2 inches long. There are two versions: one as a Letherman extension and one is universal. I'm receiving both this weekend and will return the Letherman version (I did not know the existence of the universal version because all the talks are about the Letherman version). Received them today and the universal version is insane. A must have for every EDC man. Before you get any other ratchet wrenches, get this one first. For the same weight (1 oz), you can add two mostly used bits (one on each side of the handle).
