One of my speakers blew out on my stinkin phone and now i can barely hear it, particularly while I'm in the shower trying to listen to my stories! (podcasts) i have a bluetooth speaker but I'm always losing it or it runs out of batteries so I thought i would just make a amplifier out of wood that needs no charge and can just live in the bathroom.
I'm using black walnut and basically just cutting some boards very thin (admittedly probably slightly too thin but it's holding up just fine) and then cutting 60 degree angles creating a hexagon box, and tapering the cuts so it creates a cone shape. then just cut a slot for the the phone to sit into.
If you choose to make one you could use it in the bathroom like my or you could make another one and use them as giant headphones for the gym, although you'd have to get another phone to put in the other cone. keep it in your car for your homies - they won't ask for the aux chord anymore everyone will be saying "yo pass me the cone"
It works pretty well I think, plus it looks pretty cool too.
Laura Kampf has a very similar video where she makes a hexagon cone and turns it into a lamp I would recommend watching her video as well if you're considering making something like this.
Thanks for watching! please consider subscribing :)

Nice video. I like to experiment with horns for phones and would like to hear the difference in volume if you ever get a chance to do that.

Rick McQuay thanks man! honestly it wasn’t THAT much of a difference, But one of my speakers blew out of my iPhone so it doesn’t have that much sound to amplify, something at full volume would probably do well. I’ll see if I can’t have one of my friends use it and see how well it does. Thanks for checking out my channel 👍🏻

Cool project. I’m pretty sure the trouble you were having making it go together was due to some basic geometry being off. A 60° bevel cut is only going to be accurate for a straight sided hexagon. The jansson.us website has a compound angle calculator page with an N-sided box calculator which would be perfect for what you are doing here.

Hi Chuck. Awesome thinking! I'm thinking of making a cut file for CNC. What did the measurements end up being for each end of the panels (and the length)? That way i don't need to mess with figuring angles. Thank you

Thanks man! That’s awesome a CBC would be a sure fire way to make it live up correctly. So that lil guy is actually up in Delaware. (I’m in NC) I honestly just picked some arbitrary angles and set up the stop block so they were all the exact same. I’ll see if I can’t find the measurements though
