The Kilner brand churner, i just applied a small amount of food grade silicone grease on the teeth to stop the shavings (metal on metal, not good!). As there's no direct contact with the butter or whipping cream is not an issue.

I realize this video is almost a year old but I just got my Kilner Butter Churn today and after leaving a pint of heavy whipping cream sit out a couple hours I started churning and I had butter in 3 minutes. At first I was afraid I did something wrong because it said it would take about 10 minutes. But yes, 3 minutes and I had yellow butter. Mine did the metal shavings as well. I just blew it off the top before opening, but hopefully it just does it on the first time used. But anyway, I'm not sure why your Kilner didn't produce butter for you. Great video. I didn't even realize there were so many butter makers on the market :)

I use a Kilner. After first use the small gear began to slip. I used a punch to tighten it on the shaft. Works great now. Yield and time depends on butter fat content. I’m a happy churned! My times are no longer tha n five minutes.

I purchased the La Bonne Graine butter churn last month. I must say I'm thoroughly impressed with it. I never made butter before purchasing it. Looking at all the videos, I was erring on the side of failure. However, I used it the first time and it produced lots of butter from a pint of Grade AA heavy cream. I was very happy. I'm not certain how others do it, but I leave the cream out for around 6-8 hours to allow it to get true room temperature. Another plus is that in the three times I've used it, it has only taken me 2-4 minutes to produce butter. The OP is correct in that the butter comes out with a beautiful color, great texture, and pleasing aroma. I will buy another one as I can't have this one failing on me. It's just too awesome!

The Kilner was given to me as a gift . It came missing a securing clip so I can’t use it. I contacted the company and was told they would not replace.

Was the cream cold? I hear it needs to be room temperature to make without lots of time.

The best butter is made with sour cream. Add some buttermilk to the cream and let stand for abot 8 hours. It makes French butter! But I think I prefer the Kitchen Aid. That makes some butter...

I thought I'd have a look at you video because I'd bought a Kilner churn. I left my cream out of the fridge for about 4 hours and in less than 5 minutes the cream had become so thick I couldn't move the paddles without difficulty but then after a few minutes of turning the handle with difficulty it started to free up again (at the difficult-to-churn stage there was no buttermilk separation *at all*. I had no metal shavings round the top either. I'm still churning as I watch (with breaks to type). I'm about 20 or so minutes into it now and I have butter milk separation too! Fingers crossed this works! :)

I can see it now, you take in a case of mason jars, each half full of cream, and stand at the counter while they all get shook up! Tell the other customers in line that it is a special paint, take a sip out of one with cream before hand, and spread it on bread or crackers when its pulled out of the shaker! Everyone's face would be priceless! Then the men in white jackets will show up and offer you a coat that'll let you give yourself all the hugs you could possibly want! lol!

I believe that you missed it with Kilner ! Depending on your motivation to turn it, it takes only 7 to 12 minutes to get great butter... Cream must be at room temp (I keep it that way for about 4 to 6 hours for best results ! Sorry to say this, but it is the best product to me... Have a good day, miss 😊

I just made my first batch of butter with Kilner. I bought it before I saw your video. Between my husband and I, it took 30 to 40 minutes before we got butter solids, which I'm okay with...but certainly not 10 minutes. For rinsing, etc...I let my Kitchen Aide stand mixer and some cheese cloth to finish the job. Then I made toast. The butter was divine. I will use the Kilner for the churning and my stand mixer for the rinsing in the future...

Nice presentation. However, you didn't shake the Chef'n butter maker quite long enough. It needed about one or two more minutes to completely extract all the butter from the liquid, then the strainer would not have been clogged up and the buttermilk and rinsing water would have easily flowed out.

Hey guys, I also own one and am having a heck of a time getting a large batch of butter like advertised. Do you have any advice on the type of cream used? I'm in the USA and have tried store bought heavy cream as well as raw cream straight from a farm with no luck so far. It makes butter but usually after 30 minutes of vigorous spinning despite waiting for it to reach room temperature and it only makes roughly 4 tbsp of butter :( any advice?
@jkhyles
@jkhyles 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cody! The best tip I have is to leave the cream out longer before trying to churn it. I also love my Kilner and have been surprised that it takes less time to churn than advertised - kids were actually upset the first time because they were tsking turns and the third kid didn't get a chance =0). Today I bought 16 oz bottle of heavy cream (Trader Joe's, if that helps) and left it on the counterfor more like 4 hrs before I got around to churning it. I started shaking it periodically to feel how cold it was and waited til there was chill. They say in 300ml of cream you get 100ml or butter, and I didn't weigh it but from my 16oz I got well over a cup of whipped-texture butter.
@DHemstock
@DHemstock 3 жыл бұрын
@@jkhyles I agree with you... leave the cream on the counter. I never get metal shavings with mine. I get butter in 10min or less. Plus I get about 1 cup of buttermilk that I use to make pancakes or biscuits. I love the Kilner.

That is the way I have done it in the past. I agree- very simple and easy. These were products one of my subs sent and asked me to do a review on for them. I figured it didn't hurt to try it out! I did mention the mason jar method later in the review when I was talking about the Buttercup Butter Maker (t is just a fancy, complicated version of a mason jar). I may just need to do a video about the mason jar method to show people how easy it is and that they don't need to spend any extra amount of money to make creamy delicious butter at home. :)

Here is the mistake that the people of today (most) wouldn't have a clue about. *NEVER use* what says *Heavy Whipping Cream.* That stuff is way too watered-down and actually, makes for way too much work to make a kind of inferior Whipped Cream. Do as did the Old Timers, use the natural product *HEAVY CREAM.* You might want to give a very cheap gadget a try which is about moron proof. (bty: You are NOT a moron.) * "Chef'n Buttercup Hand Churn"* is the name, and it sells for around 12.00. It only accommodates one cup of *Heavy Cream* of which much Buttermilk is leached out, but in the end you WILL have butter that takes around 3 minutes total of having to shake. Yes, the total amount of usable butter is enough to fill a custard cup only, but it is just such a no-sweat way of making up a batch of something not store bought already made with artificial yellow coloring. REAL BUTTER is suppose to be white. Keeps for up to one week in the fridge. ps: Make sure the Heavy Cream has had several hours more than 2 hours before giving it the 3 minute shake.

The best turn around was with that French butter maker, that's for sure. Yes, ALOT of work done on Friday and very sore arms and shoulders Saturday morning, but I quickly forgot about the sore muscles right away when the cow stepped on my toe! But I feel it was worth it to give everyone an honest review of each one. The butter that I did make was delicious though! :)
