you can totally do it the same way. but i've found that when you do it the same way, the first stitch that you change colors on ends up looking kind of incomplete when you view it on the front. so i decided to find a new way to change colors on the back to try and mitigate the issue. you may find that you don't see a difference at all! in that case, you can just change colors the "normal" front side way

The "front" or "back" starts once you start color changing rows. I really wouldn't think about it too hard. Just do the first color change row using the way you would change colors on the "front". The side with the ends hanging is the back!

I think I know the problem you're encountering and here's how to solve it. There isn't a "right and wrong" side when you crochet in rows, only in rounds (remember this!) Now, when you follow the graph grid pattern design, remember this trick: After the chains needed to start your design, you will be crocheting from right to left to form your first row of stitches. Once starting the second row, remember to follow the graph pattern from left to right. Problem solved! Example: (pretend that these ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ are your starting chains. In the first row, you follow the graph pattern from right to left, like this: (1st row) ⬅️ □□■■■□□□ ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ Second Row, you follow the graph pattern from left to right, like this: ➡️ (2nd row) □□□■□□□□■□□ □□■■■□□■■■□□□ ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ Third row= right to left. Fourth row= left to right, etc...

How do you make these pieces bigger? I want to get into this but how would I enlarge it for tote bags or sweaters?
@jadecordial6 ай бұрын
You would add a bunch to your starting chain to make it the size you want. You would add an even amount on both sides. So if the duck bag pattern is currently 40 wide and you chained 120 then you need to add 40 background color single crochets at the beginning and then 40 at the end after you have done each row. That adds up to the 120 you chained. And then a similar way to add length. Just add however many rows of plain. This pattern only started with 5 but you could do 15 or 20 to make the bag longer.
@KanugatliGigageАй бұрын
Any tips to get this on a sweater?
@jadecordialАй бұрын
Hmmm, I guess you would need to know how large the front panel would be of your sweater and then you would chain that many across and place the design in the middle of that. I would suggest drawing a little sweater doodle and imagining this goose as a tiny square in the middle of the sweater. This is only like 44 tall and a sweater is probably 100 tall. Same idea with the width. I suppose if you are making a sweater you would need a back panel so if you started with the back panel it might give you a better idea of how to incorporate the goose. I would probably use a size 2 or 3 yarn though or the sweater won't have very much movement because single crochet sweaters feel/look stiff in my opinion! Good luck, I've only ever made one sweater haha

Hi, i absolutely love this tutorial but i seem to be doing something wrong? By the end of row 4 i was down to 30 stitches instead of 34. No one else seems to have this problem so its likely just me misunderstanding something but i cant seem to figure it out 😭
@jadecordial4 ай бұрын
You are probably accidentally skipping stitches! Which would make you start to decrease the amount of stitches per row. Sometimes the way that I do the back rows can make the teardrop really tiny on the next row and you can easily jump over a stitch if you aren't careful. I would just make sure for each row you count the total amount of stitches when you are done and also make sure once you get to the last color you are counting that amount and not just crocheting to the end. At that point you might be doing 12 green to the end of the row when it's supposed to be 13. But since it was the last color change you didn't count to make sure. I've definitely done that! I hope this makes sense/helps.

@jadecordial6 ай бұрын
If you are crocheting right handed, the first row after chaining would be worked from right to left. The bottom most row of your pattern needs to be read from right to left. And then the following row (which would be the back of your work) you would read from left to right. That should keep it from inverting! Or you could invert the grid before you start and keep crocheting how you already are haha

What brand of yarn and color did you use? And hook size? I subbed this is so cute!
@jadecordial4 ай бұрын
I believe this green is big twist brand in the color Sage. And I used a 5mm hook. Thank you!

How do you know which side is the front and which side is the back?
@jadecordial4 ай бұрын
The side where you put your ends will be the back. The first row when you change colors you can call that your "front" and then when you flip and do the next row that would be the "back"
@fierceandlittle42294 ай бұрын
@@jadecordial So you can essentially pick which side you want to be the front and which side you want to be the back?
@jadecordial4 ай бұрын
@@fierceandlittle4229 yeah. you’re creating it from nothing so whichever side you put the ends of yarn at the beginning rows on will be the back

It’s a bit weird to think about without actually doing it. So if you haven’t tried yet, maybe make a little swatch of something smaller and it may click better!

What type of yarn is this?
@jadecordialАй бұрын
I tend to use red heart, big twist, or caron. It's acrylic size 4 yarn. For the green I think it was red heart or big twist. The orange is big twist. The white is caron because that yarn is a bit on the thicker size4 side and it puffed out with the thinner big twist yarn. But i kind of liked that effect on this project! Big twist is definitely my favorite but that's probably because I have a Joanns near me (their brand). Micheals also has a nice of that type!

The link to the grid is in the description! If you click on that then it should take you to Pinterest and you can save the photo to your laptop or phone!

It would be helpful if you could write out the time stamps so that you don’t have to go back and forth trough the video if you shut it down by accident. Thanks for a great tutorial!
