LET'S MEET MARIA CARTES FROM ARPILLERISTAS FROM MELIPILLA

Let's meet María Cartes, arpillerista artist, who is part of the Arpilleristas de Melipilla organization from Chile.
As part of Kultrún World Music Festival pre-festival activities, we are honoured to present “Arpillera Exhibit” with the Arpilleristas de Melipilla, Chile!
The organization will be presenting the exhibition on Wednesday July 10, 7pm at Neruda Arts Studio, curated by Marcelo Parada.
With threads and scraps of cloth, the Arpilleristas represent through their art, the social injustice and political scenarios of Chile’s history. As well as what they experience in their everyday life, in their communities, especially the rural areas.
The objective of the exhibition is to publicize the heritage of Chile through the poignant and beautiful work carried out by the group of Arpilleristas, who in 2013 obtained the Seal of Excellence for Crafts.
This event is FREE! We will be also presenting a Cueca dance (traditional dance from Chile), delicious treats, and more
