Chimney sweep here. Make sure you screw your single wall pipe together. 3 stainless steel zip screws minimum at each joint. If you ever have a chimney fire, the force from the fire sucking air will possibly be enough that the pipe will come apart during the chimney fire. This is NFPA code.

Appreciate your humble genuine videos on your experiences living this lifestyle:} I used to live in Maine as a youth, I’m 47 now. Back in those days, we didn’t have running water or electricity, and used wood stoves to heat the house. My friend’s family built their house by hand, like you, themselves, from the basement up, as a family. They choose to build a Russian furnace/stove to heat their house. I never understood how efficient those were until I was much older. Because you’re looking for efficiency and prolonged warmth in the long cold winter months of Canada, and to burn less wood to accomplish this, it might be worth looking into (as money and time permits). There’s lots of videos online of building these types of stoves the traditional way online, plus they’re good for cooking on and some for baking too. That being said, I think you’re doing a great job, especially being one person with modest means (I can relate to that!). Little by little with your determined tenacity, you’ll get it all just the way you want it:) It’s inspirational watching you, your kindness with the chickens and their fondness for following you around. Your self reliance and realness are appreciated, especially in comparison to the plethora of KZbinrs who seem to have endless amounts of money and portray everything as easy. It’s not always easy, and often not glamorous. But accomplishing things you work hard to do, has a earned sweetness of accomplishment to it. Keep going! You’re amazing!

Burning potato peels can help keep your chimney clean. I never would have believed it but it's something my hubby swears up and down is true. We haven't burned a house down yet so I guess something's working. I'm happy to see that you won't be burning your cabin down! Merry Christmas :)
