You are so correct. I have been painting statuary for a while and I have painted approximately 200 pieces. At first it was unbelievably frustrating to pour your time and effort into something and then watch the paint chip off weeks to months later. I learned the hard way the necessity of a good latex base and I also like to use a product called gripper. It covers everything and there is no bleed through and it absolutely does not peel. Anyway you've got a great set of videos and a good presentation.

You make it look effortless lol, can really tell you've been doing it for a long time. It looks great! I do a combination of dry brush and detail finish, depending on what type of statue it is. I've come across some "watery" paint too, not sure why it varies in consistency, but I found that if you're doing a detail finish and don't want the base coat to show up through, then painting over white tends to work better and cuts down on how many coats need to be applied. It's all kind of personal preference as having that little black kind of show in the beak looks nice as well. I'm loving this series though. I would be very interested in seeing how you paint an Owl, Eagle, or any other bird with multiple layers of colors. I would assume it would be heavy dry brush with the darker color and then highlight with lighter colors, much like the blue mermaid you did the other day. I would also be interested in seeing how you do rocks and logs, like if you have any statues with animals sitting on top of. I have a turtle on a rock, owl on a branch and curious how you would make the detail pop on those. Dry brushing would work fairly well on the branch but rocks are kind of smooth texture. I've been on my adventure for just over 2 years now and have used your videos for a lot of self teaching opportunities, so always looking to expand my finish game. I had 3 statue molds at the beginning of the year and now I have 10 so I actually have a variety of statues to try different things on. Keep them videos coming :) Good stuff!

Hi! I have a question please! I have put the base coat on and I have exterior flat white paint for the body of the goose. Since it has the all over black base coat on it is it ok to use acrylic green and orange/yellow for the grass and feet? I also have the finishing spray that you recommended. Just didn’t want to have to spend $35 a quart for green and orange if it would be ok to use regular acrylic paint. Thank you for your videos! They are excellent!!🥰👍

You can, but be aware, its likely it will not last as long. It will fade away or peel sooner.

Does it need to have a clear coat after or is it good to go without?

Hello remember me? The one asking you if I could dip a stuffed teddy bear in cement and turn it into a statue, well I did it I found the right cement and it worked perfect. I let it cure for days set it out in the rain for several days and it’s great. So yes without your help I did it. 😊 anyone can do it now.

Hello, I’m glad you found an alternative method that worked for you. I still don’t think your original idea would have been successful for you, but that’s why I always recommend experimenting and trial and error!
