@@vermillionvrI agree! I love your app! I do wish, however, you’d give a little credit to Bill Alexander… I know everyone knows Bob Ross, but Bill not only “created” this style, but was Bob’s mentor (and eventually they became bitter competition for each other, sadly). Perhaps you already know all this given the depth of your app; if you haven’t, check out the original “happy little trees” Mr. Mighty brush himself on Bill Alexander’s “Magic of Oil Painting”… I like both guys, but imo Bill is the master, his skill and breadth of subject matter has yet to be surpassed by Bob.

As both a developer and a hobby painter, this is so cool from both ends! I also enjoy that the painting you chose to do was based on the first Bob Ross I ever tried to emulate on the Procreate app on my iPad, and your program makes it look way easier; gone are the extra hours of trial and error trying to emulate Bob with digital brushes not suited for oil style paintings. The thing that impressed me most, was how you've achieved making the higher thickness paint look like it's actually coming off the canvas the same way it would on a real canvas. It's tiny details like that, that really up how immersive the program is. If you ever decide to release add-ons the emulate other painting mediums, I will definitely purchase all of them :) But no need to rush as there's like 30 Seasons of Bob Ross on KZbin that I'll need to get through first haha.

In my life, i always drawn very simple drawings using a pen in school or some crayons and such. Then i moved out to Paint and Photoshop, as painting in real life gives you a lot of work and the creativity process is lost, at least for me. As i'm a person that can make a lot of mistakes and has to always press CTRL+Z to undo things. It's a thing i never read anyone else saying. Maybe in VR this could change my life and i could know if i can paint ''manually''. I'm literally dying by inside dreaming with a Quest 2 and programs like these will be a life changer if everything works fine for me. This is amazing!

Me and my wife both have Quest so we both painted the Robin at the same time last night. VR date night. We had a good time. However I had an issue with mine. It said to press X to erase a mistake. It wouldn't work and I spent most of my date night in the tutorial. I finally got it to work and get past that part by changing to a left handed painter then switching back to right hand after the tutorial but on mine the X doesn't work at all when your right handed but when you switch hands that becomes A works great that way. Great video! I am going to have to buy Vermillion now. I have brushworks and its very cool but new and vermillion has features that brushworks doesn't and vise versa. I love the resizing option to do detail that is awesome! The brushes explanation was great in this vid as well. I have a question though, someone commented about 'straight line' and 'wrist control' below, what are they referring to? Does this app actually allow you to hold the brush without holding the controller? That is the biggest thing I find awkward, but then I am very very new to the VR world, but its especially awkward when trying to paint, even if you adjust your grip. I noticed in your video that the brush followed your hand (wo controller) but IDK if that is just a product of the recording?
@vermillionvr8 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your interest in Vermillion. You're still painting while holding the controllers, as the controllers give you pinpoint accuracy over the brush with no latency, which is not currently possible with hand tracking. The straight line and wrist support options are two of the stabilizer options in Vermillion, where you lock the brush movement to a line of your choice, or where you lock your wrist to an axis. The latter simulates a "mahlstick", a virtual stick onto which you rest your wrist while painting.

@@chirlsaylor6351 Glad to hear you're having such a good time! Your painting is auto-saved every five minutes, so it'll still be there when your Quest is charged. 😅 There's an official Meta as well as third party battery straps for Quest, you can check those out if you want to extend your time at the easel. And yes, you can also hang your paintings on the wall, both in the virtual studios as well as in your house when you're in passthrough! You can change which studio you're in, and switch to passthrough, from the Settings panel on the floating screen. Approach a wall and point your controller at it, you'll see a preview of where the painting can go. Click the + icon with the trigger and you'll be able to choose which painting to hang. You can move them around on the wall by grabbing them with the grab button on the controller. In answer to my own question now that I own Vermillion, the feel of the brushes are so much more realistic than they are in Brushworks, I do not mean to dis a new startup, but this app is the bomb. I have both and you can clearly see which one has been around longer. One thing that is cool in brushworks is you can hang your art on your studio wall...IDK if this option is avail in Vermillion, but if not, maybe that should be next? That being said, I would say that for a few bucks you should own both and play around. It is soo much fun to play in these apps...I just wish theyd make a battery that literally lasted 8 hours, not a purported 8hrs, which I have yet to see. I think you get a full 2-3 max hour on the quest 2. But out of all of my downloads, this one is my favorite hands down! Well done!

Not in this video of course as it's 2 years old and the MX Ink just released, but otherwise yes, I do prefer it for painting in Vermillion over controllers!

The painting settings are now attached to the palette! The other settings, such as controls, are on the floating screen, under the Settings tab.

Using the Steam version of Vermillion so it can be used with LIV. You also get the Rift version for free if you bought it on Quest 2. store.steampowered.com/app/1608400/Vermillion/ www.oculus.com/deeplink/?action=view&path=app/4376948672333371
