He was the guy started the band back in the '60s if I guess correctly. React to 'Cherish' one of their biggest hits in the '80s. I always listened to Kool and the Gang music. They can funk it too. Kool and the Gang is a group that started in 1964 out of New York. They were primarily a Funk, R&B group until 1979 when JT Taylor became the lead singer when they became more Soul and Pop in their music. Jungle Boogie(1974) Open Sesame(1976) Ladies Night(1979) Funky Stuff(1973) and Fresh(1985). Awesome music!

Kool & the Gang is an American R&B, soul, and funk group formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1964. Its founding members include brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell aka "Khalis Bayyan", Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, Sir Earl Toon, Woodrow "Woody" Sparrow, and Ricky Westfield. They have undergone numerous changes in personnel and have explored many musical styles throughout their history, including jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, funk, disco, rock, and pop music. When this song came out, I can remember going to the skating rink (I was not and I’m still not a good skater) wh😢this song would come on the adults or teens would go out on the rink and they would just be flying around the rink. That was always so fun to watch. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from or what mood you’re in, this song will always make a person smile. It’s a fun song!

Kool and the Gang were just a jazz funk band that didn't have a lead singer at first. Then someone started singing on songs like "Hollywood Swinging" and "Jungle Boogie". Now it's Celebration, Too Hot, Cherish, and all the other things that people sampled. They actually didn't want to do Celebration because of the "who hoo!" LOL 😂 But it turned out to be their biggest hit. Who would've thunk it?

Kool was always in the back on that bass guitar. JT Taylor is the lead singer sometimes Kool will walk across the stage, playing his bass. JT got the big head and left the group after being with them about 7-8 years to try for a solo career, he never made it big in the US, so he works mostly in Europe.
