Holy shit, the pure nostalgia. Like when you climbed the mill, I instantly remembered to use the wheat on the hopper and operate it before you said anything. I too loved mining and smithing. I used to sell so many coal certs back in the day. Was the best life. Thanks for the memories.

I played this back in the day, late 2001 I think, the game had 3 servers at the time. Good memories. I liked the simplicity but how rewarding it was.

There was only two worlds, you had to wait ur turn to bank, if someone was talking to the banker, and didn’t finish the chat, then they could hold that banker indefinitely… 😂 😢

I've been loving 2001scape! It's obviously grindy but there's something so calming about its simplicity. I've done a lot of mining and it's surprising how quickly I got used to using the pick on the rock - going back to preservation feels like cheating, lol. But yeah, with no item bank, the meta for everything completely changes, even more for people playing ironman style.

I could’ve sworn the class selection options were different when I started. I remember specifically selecting “miner” in order to avoid combat XP and create pure accounts. I started when there were 2 servers and membership was not an option.

Actually, thinking back… I believe they changed the class options to include miner. The initial class options were the same as shown in your video.

It's very possible that you experienced something different! This is specifically May of 2001, and it's possible that other class choices were available at different times! I seem to recall seeing a screenshot that included a miner at some point!

I started my account in 2001 and it didn’t have the necromancer option as I remember, but then again I was 9. I do remember the selection though and I selected warrior. Also played before the report abuse button, me and a friend made an account called report abused and scammed prestige accounts back in the day. The only time and ever time I scammed, don’t worry it all got banned lol. I wish rsc server bot got shut down but there was too many duplicating items and people selling them on eBay and I think it started resulting in legal problems to deal with and thus why it got shut down. Too bad I still had red party hat on my classic, very unfortunate. I’d love to reply the game again like this but with boosted exp rates and possibly with other players.

I proably started playing around the same time as you and i remember they had a few classes they had warrior, ranger, wizard, adventurer, lumberjack, and maybe miner. And i remember there was a bug where you could have a bearded lady if you picked a certain class or clothes color or something. My buddy was also a huge pker and there was one class you could pick that was better because you started with better melee stats at a lower combat level. And if i remember right lots of people started warrior because you started with bronze long and wood shield and you could see those for like 20-30 gp for some starting cash

Nah I’m pretty sure they just closed the servers down a few years ago. They left them up for YEARS but with 0 updates and maintenance

As he says in the video, there was "good magic" and "evil magic" in the game at the time, but evil magic was eventually removed, and I'm assuming the Necromancer was removed with it.

@@andrewg3196 yea it changed a lot in the early days and it was common for them to put a skill like carpentry on the list but never actually implememt it and then remove it later lol it was the wild west of rs back then it just moved so fast

This was an almost beta version of the game, they might've changed the art around after this to what you're more familiar with. (Note for example, 4 classes instead of 6 at character creation) This wasn't exactly the peak of its popularity or playercount so it's not one many people are all that nostalgic for, which would be what classic would really wanna target. Quest exp rewards are scaled from your level. Pretty good idea to train before doing a quest for mid levels
