I once read that the kind of 'dry humour' of the British and their Commonwealth, such as the Aussies, and also noted with some English-origin East Coast of America, such as New England way, came from the Spartans around 2,300 years ago, though there are other accounts of where that kind of humour came from. Of course, some Europeans have that, as well, such as the Germans. But, the witty, dry humour is famous with the English of the South, and was also famous with the Spartans, that's for sure, and I think you can see it with some of the Romans, at least. I think the Americans do have dry humour, it's just not witty, it's more banter-based and harsher (which seems to be more in line with the Irish and Scottish, as it turns out, but I'm also not certain on this or the history thereof, though it makes some sense given the fact the Irish were the first major groups into Scotland and were also major groups in the East Coast of America, such as New York way). You do find, for example, the East Coast Scottish/British-origin American comedians have that very dry, sharp/banter humour, such as Bill Burr and many others. Ricky Gervais is part Irish, from South of England, and he has that kind of humour, as well. You also see that kind of harsher, Irish/Scottish humour with the Oasis band, from the North of England and part Irish. Of course, England used to be famous for the more 'dark/black humour', which is also known as 'gallows humour', as it would be the kind of dark, sick humour relating to death and murder and such. I actually noticed that Hitler and the Nazis had a very dark, sick humour, like, 'haha, isn't genocide funny?' Very corrupt kind of humour they had centred around their disgust, which you saw in some of Hitler's speeches and their propaganda posters (namely, the ones against the Jews), along with some of the more evil high-ranking Nazis, who literally thought it was funny to murder 6 million Jews, with making quotations of them making that clear. You can notice that German comedians have that kind of darker, British-type humour, as well. Hitler did worship the Romans, of course, and all things classical, orderly, and relating to illness/death, so it makes sense that he would have that kind of humour, as well, but I digress.

Great game guys, Love your videos. I saw there a few rule issues that I wanted to clear up, The Endurance deck was not quite used right, When you reveal or recycle cards they go under the reshuffle card. The reshuffle card when revealed shuffles the cards placed under it to create a new endurance deck with the Reshuffle card placed back under it. Full Auto always costs 1, no matter what weapon needs to shoot for the first time (Page 17) Flamethrowers, they attack a space and all the surrounding spaces. You can only play Events from hands, Equipment must be equipped before you can use them. Events are Exhausted when played not Discarded when played. Once again awesome video guys!

So we had a couple playthroughs of mission 1 with my friend and I and we're really confused about many of the rules. Some of the event cards are not worded well. And Newt's "end of activation" ability(?) makes no sense. Do you move someone to her if multiple characters are already in base contact with her?

Thanks so much for this. I played the first mission and chased Newt for 4 turns. Vasquez held off countless hordes while the team escaped. Apone had to risk killing Hicks in order to relieve the spawn of aliens at the exit with his flamethrower. Had a blast! And it's full auto...

To answer your question, characters can only activate once per round, so once a grunt actives cannot activate again during that Marine Phase.

Amazing vidoe! Game looks totally awesome! One rule note. Each character can only be activated once, grunt or or not. After all players have gone the highest ranked hero activates any remaining grunts.

Great playthrough. I hope you'll do the other missions. I'm eagerly awaiting my copy. A few rules notes: 1. You keep auto firing until you miss or decide to stop. There's no 3 shot limit. 2. Event cards can be played any time, even during another players turn. So, Justin could have increased Warren's aim dial at 1:04:49 . 3. You keep reshuffling the endurance deck, as long as you still have cards in it. After reshuffling, you put the deck on top of the reshuffle card.

Great video guys! I think the endurance deck wasn’t handled quite right. As cards are revealed or recycled they go under the reshuffle tile. When the deck runs out- you only reshuffle the cards under that reshuffle tile- not the exhausted deck. So you would have been burning cards from the exhaust into the discard the last couple turns.

Recycled cards go underneath that reshuffle token for the endurance deck. You DO NOT reshuffle the exhausted cards into the endurance deck when it runs out. You have to recycle cards back to the endurance deck. When it gets down to where the token is on top, then you reshuffle the cards underneath it into a new endurance deck and place the token back under the deck.

for the rapid fire weapons, it is covered at the end of the rulebook in the "keyword glossary" FULL AUTO: After making a successful hit with this weapon, you may Exhaust a single Endurance card to make another attack. You may continue making attacks until you miss or you decide to stop.

Question for everyone... The bottom line of the M56 Smart Gun reads (2:52)"You cannot equip a Backup weapon." Yet Hudson has M40 grenades in his backup weapon slot. Is this an error, or are the M40 grenades allowed to be taken as well as the M56 Smart Gun?

Your right, smart guns are classified as heavy weapon so can only be used as the only weapon carried. Plus I cringed when he gave the smart gun to Hudson. Vasquez gets a bonus with the smart gun as it only costs her 2 points (cards) to use instead of 3.

@@stephenjackson6922 They are actually using the flame thrower incorrectly. its a saturation attack actually, card reads "Exhaust 2 cards to make an attack with this weapon. Choose a space that is two spaces away from your character and in line of sight. ROLL FOR EACH MODEL AND TOKEN IN THAT SPACE AND WITHIN 1 SPACE OF IT. This always hits on a roll of 7 or less" So when he attacked, he should roll for every model/token within 1 space of the impact point, so he should have rolled for the group plus the friendly that was 1 space away. In other words if there is a swarm of 5 aliens, you would roll 5 times for that stack. then moving from that to one space away, and roll for each. So potential of attacking 9 spaces all at once.

*Rules check regarding multiple same grunt activations. Just got my hands on the rules pdf. On p14 Marine Phase it states: ‘During the Marine Phase players take turns activating characters. Each character is activated once per Marine Phase.’ So yeah, I reckon a character even if they are Grunt can’t be activated more than once per phase. You guys did it right I think.

Awesome play through Just a few things.... Weird load out guys! -Hudson couldnt have the grenade since the smart gun says you can't have a backup weapon -Why no smart gun on vasquez? She exhausts 2 cards instead of 3 to use it -Why not shotgun on hicks? That's his thing (though I get your unlucky dice rolls and wanting more firm "Roll this to hit" because you're cursed like me haha) -Turn 3 when you were on the alien turn, you need to draw 1 alien card for EACH hero , not just 1 (unless you're playing 1 or 2 player, then its 2 cards for 1 player, 4 cards for 2 players) - Which glad you found out in future rounds ;) -When a card is "Revealed" it doesnt go into the exhausted pile - it goes back under the draw deck under the "RESHUFFLE" card

The weapons say “when you take the attack action, exhaust X number of cards”. Now, full auto lets you fire multiple times but it’s still the same action correct? So, you wouldn’t need to keep exhausting cards for firing full auto I would assume? Also, the smart gun says you can’t have a back up weapon so Warren can’t have grenades

What’s not clear is that the rules say to exhaust a card to attack again. And the example shows the pulse rifle which is 1 card. So a hard read on the smart gun may be 3 to shoot and 1 per rapid fire. Rather than 3 to shoot and 3 per rapid. I hope they FAQ it soon.

I think you have to exhaust cards to use your guns during defensive fire as well. Also, you draw a motion tracker card for every character that a player is in control of (non grunts).

For the face hugger the rule book states you die at the end of the campaign, not the end of the mission. I asked on BGG and that seems to be the case. Of course if you are only playing a mission then yes you die then at the end.

When I had questions about how you three played I checked the rules and read all of the comments. I think I have a better grasp of the game now. You always play with 6 characters, if you play three heroes and only three grunts you'll be drawing a sheeeton of motion tracker cards each round. Normally you play 1 hero 5 grunts in solo play

Our game resulted in a Marine down next to an alien horde. To resolve the situation, we used M-40 grenade on the aliens adjacent to downed player. There was discussion of not being able to "shoot through" a comrade's space, but that wasn't technically the situation. The blast DID involve the comrade however. We ended up allowing it. We did make a Defense roll for the downed Marine, but I don't think that should have been allowed - you aren't fighting the grenade, it simply blasts you. Thoughts or errata?

You can tell the guy on the right has no tactical experience whatsoever. A squad/platoon leader would not leave his men, he would delegate the task to someone in his team, preferably whoever is the most qualified in this case Hudson, for the task. The squad/platoon leader would remain with the rest of the team to maintain tactical command/control.

Not only did you equip a back up weapon with someone with a smart gun but you also only rolled one die for the smart gun in the beginning when it states on the card to use two and discard the highest roll......no offense but did you guys even read the cards before playing?
