Haha this is great, you figure out everything 10x quicker than most other people I've seen play. Playing The Talos Principle before this really helped.

I really like how this game seems to be literally just tutorial. Like at 16:25 - It provides a daunting task of collecting 12 cubes, and introducing red ones. Red ones are new, so you interact with them. You realize that they change over to blue, etc. You then try and leave with them, only to have them disappear. Having those 2 out of 14 gone makes it an even daunting-er task, and thus tells you "Hey, never EVER walk through that with cubes again". It's quite interesting to me, both as a viewer and a gamer.

If playing the game gets you confused imagine what designing the game does to you.

+nattsurfaren Designing it is easy, since you would know all the tricks.
@nattsurfaren8 жыл бұрын
Yeah true. They probably have a design editor to simplify the creation.
@Jirodyne8 жыл бұрын
nattsurfaren Well I use a lot of editors for a lot of games, so I know how it looks in an editor. For the players it would be look weird and/or amazing. But in the editor, it's probably something very simple like a trigger attached to the camera and where the player is standing. So if looking at Object A, move backwards into a new room, then look away and look back and it's suddenly Object B, there is a Trigger that activates when you move into the new room that Object A doesn't exist anymore and it's instead Object B. It just for you, the player, looks like Object A still. But as soon as you look away it 'corrects' itself to looking like Object B. The only hard part is coding Triggers based on looking at something, and having stuff changing but doesn't take effect till you look away. None of the Editors I've used for games have something like that, but then that's not something most games would need. This game however, that's a big part of it.

Alexander Bruce actually gave three excellent GDC talks about designing the game. I would say that particularly the two later ones are very interesting because (unlike the first) they actually talk about the process with hindsight, after the release. If you search "antichamber GDC" you should be able to find them

Having seen you played the witness, I know your good with puzzle games so this shouldn't be too hard for you, when you learn the tricks. For other gamers tho, this is a very strange game. Because if I remember right, when it came out the Dev designed this game so that people who play a lot of games are challenged. Like in the very beginning where it tells you to jump. Most gamers will instantly jump, and never think to walk across. I believe the game is designed all around that concept. To get gamers to think outside the box. To learn, question, and do things that in a 'normal' game wouldn't work. Like in every other game, a pit is just that, a pit and should be advoided. But here you found a picture at the bottom of the pit that said that failing, doesn't mean you're not progressing. Antichamber is one of my most favorite games ever, and I think when you get the hang of it, you'll like it a lot too. It's very fun.

HOLY SHIT, you're playing another of my very favorite puzzle games. This should be great. DO NOT LET ANYBODY SPOIL YOU ON ANYTHING. I hope you just don't read comments. This game is even more 100% about 'understanding stuff' than even the witness. Even a commenter who never played themselves, unknowingly saying "huh, what is that thing" at the wrong time, could send you down a wildly different path than you would have gone.
@MrMurmandramas8 жыл бұрын
+Ditocoaf in some ways, this is antiWitness - the island is full of colors and cleverly placed puzzles but with only one real imput method, while Atichamber - is all about ascetic visuals but with puzzles in every possible and unimaginable way.
