The thing to keep in mind about Cannon Fodder is that it was satire. The jaunty intro of War Has Never Been So Much Fun as the lads line up to throw themselves into the meatgrinder. The orders are simplistic. It doesn't even matter who the enemy is, just make them dead. Then after the mission come the poppies and the crocodile tears as it lists the soldiers that died as if you weren't the one that got them killed.

"War Has Never Been So Much Fun"... classic. I played it on the Sega Mega Drive, it was a pain in the arse using a controller but still great!

Not even the Amiga version with the real version of the "War Has Never Been So Much Fun" song? Come on guys! :P Amiga emulation is easy as heck these days with Amiga Forever, or FS-UAE if you need a bit more control.

Emulation is naughty! I'd have loved to have used my Amiga and my original copy of Cannon Fodder but I've got no way to capture footage from it. Yet... - Ian

Actually, Amiga emulation via Amiga Forever is 100% legal; even the 10 Euro "Value Edition" includes licenced copies of the Kickstart 1.3 ROMs from the current licence holders for the Amiga. It also includes tools for converting real Amiga disks into modern formats (such as RP9 or ADF). Seriously, it's dead simple!

Even though it's disappointing that it's not the Amiga version of this, CF2 and SWOS 96/97 on GOG they are still 3 of the best games ever made!

I used to play this on my dad's old Atari... I can still remember the hassle of loading it off multiple floppy discs.

Play Amberstar from Thalion. Best cRPG ever made and the amiga version is superb.

Loved this game when it came out. its a shame you didn't get too far with the initial squad, as they are the easiest to rank up, which brings benefits for the later levels. It also makes the potential loss of jools, jops & stoo all the more intense. The higher ranks also have larger tombstones

The poppies actually make a bit of sense when you look at the setting. It's a jungle reminiscent of Vietnam. Part of the the world where poppies are quite a thing.
