If you're a fan of DS, this board game is a MUST! I think others will enjoy it, but they keep to the spirit of Dark Souls WAY more than I every could have dreamed. Well done SteamForged. Glad to be a backer!

@timbobumbo5 жыл бұрын
@@chadvader974It's been a while but I don't think just the boss, I think I ment the dungeon mobs as well. even if I did it was probably because I was reading the rules as I went, takes a long time that way. The game could take a long while if you want a lot of treasure before a boss, especially if you're unfamiliar with the rules, but it's a great time if you and maybe a couple of friends are willing to spend a saturday smacking monsters

timbosix , "dungeon mob" this isn't an MMO! This is a board game! You wouldn't call them "dungeon mobs" in the Dark Souls games, would you? Obviously you wouldn't...

I've been on the fence about this game for a while now. After hearing about the colour choices being specific to assist colourblind people (myself included) I'm picking this up immediately. Its the easiest thing in the world to use colours that cannot be confused (Such as red and blue instead of red and green) but it is almost never considered by developers.

I prefer knight or warrior to assassin. Dodge is risky. When taking all of blank dices in dodge, I'm really pissed off! Block and resist are assured. Just I want to say that. Sorry...

I've always thought that even if in the videogame the knight starts with the longsword and is also the starting weapon here, the damage and level requirements for the short sword are higher than the longsword which in my opinion dont make sense. I'd personally have them inverted so that the knight started the game with a shortsword with the reqs and damage of the longsword and viceversa.
@JTMC937 жыл бұрын
The shortsword is more geared towards fencing and is a Dex oriented weapon. Longsword is Strength oriented. Two weapons for two different builds.

I have a question about Pushing. How does Push-Move and Push-Attack work and differ from each other? Do you Push all Characters in a Node? Do they get pushed to a Node that is farther away? Or that only applies for Push-Attack?

how is this game solo or with 2 players?
@kyuusei197 жыл бұрын
There is something I'm not sure I understand. Bosses drop 1 soul per spark for every player. Encounters drop 2 souls for every players. With 4 players, the bonfire has only 2 sparks. Does that mean that bosses will always drop the same or less than an encounter with 4 players?
@Hailtothegun7 жыл бұрын
This is one of the things I disliked most about the game and came up with a house rule change for (to note, I do very much like the game as a whole, just elements that don't feel are right). Tougher encounters should offer greater rewards. With the current way souls are earned, a boss could potentially give you 0 souls if you have 0 sparks left (i.e. your last possible attempt). How is that fair? Dark Souls is tough, but fair. So my soul system is as follows: - 2 souls per character for encounter level 1 rooms (no change, same as regular rules) - 3 souls per character for encounter level 2 rooms - 4 souls per character for encounter level 3 rooms - 5 souls per character for mini-boss and bosses (ignore sparks) Because of this increased soul gain, I also changed the way the item deck works, the other big area where I felt the board game drastically differed from the video game). Previously, it was just way too random. No where in any Souls game do you ever have to buy gear randomly and hope you get something that you can use. So I created a shop. I split the item deck into three tiers (as shown by this spreadsheet docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Zs8eZmzGKgLbSP6UTXEzxZfU3YoVDWnvqxqICAHLcbQ/edit#gid=0). I then flip over a certain amount of cards from each deck to be available, almost like window shopping: 3 cards from tier 1, 2 from tier 2, and 1 from tier 3. Each deck also increases in cost, respective to their tier. In other words, items from tier 1 costs 1 soul, from tier 2 costs 2, and tier 3 costs 3. Players may also pay 1 soul and "reset" one of the shops of their choosing, returning all cards to the bottom of the deck and revealing the appropriate amount of new ones. Treasure chests also received a slight modification because of this. Chests in Encounter levels 1 and 2 rooms will have players draw 2 cards from the top of the Tier 1 and 2 decks, respectively, while Encounter level 3 chests will yield a single card from the tier 3 deck. I've played the game numerous times prior to these changes with only the regular rules, and after adding these house rules, and I feel the game flows so much more smoothly and is more in the spirit of the video game.
@kyuusei197 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree with your changes. I would nerf by 1 soul every of your encounter tier. I just don't get how they failed the reward/difficulty system. It is an essential part of the Souls universe. Also, it feels really wrong that large hollow soldier are stronger that Silver Knights :O But overall, the game is very nice. Thank you for your answer. I hope they update the game once they release an extension.

When did normal encounters change to yield souls per character? I might have an outdated rulebook.
@kyuusei197 жыл бұрын
I don't know, I just bought it. How is it working according to your book?
@Hailtothegun7 жыл бұрын
Page 19, under "Ending an Encounter," it specifically says character. The only thing player count affects is the amount of Sparks you have. Soul gain HAS to be character-based because, since this game can be played solo, what's to stop one player from controlling all 4 characters? If souls were player-based, then going by the normal rules, you'd only get 2 souls per encounter even though you're controlling 4 characters. You would NEVER be able to gain enough gear and levels to be worth a damn.
