i would say that the since the MPT was on line the dismantled the reactors and couldn't or wouldn't rebuild them, they might not have the resources to mine more or process it into reactor mass

There is no way uranium will run out in the next 50 years. If we rework reactors to do more breeding it will be more than enough for the centuries. If we add thorium in the mix it will be enough for a long long time. Edit: I should have waited till the intro was over. They are beaming energy from the moon .... WTF. Even if you have a very good laser on the moon sending the energy- and you wont for that amount- we are still talking about the energy spread out over a continent. Its a lot easier to just send the material back from the moon. Or if you can build high energy lasers, just have floating solar panels in Orbit. But enough complaining now. I guess the rocket wont make any sense either. So hope that the story is good.
