I played D2 when it came out. And I had beat the game on normal with a few different classes. But this is the first time I've beaten it on Nightmare. I'm doing a bit more leveling before going into hell. (I'm really over leveled but I'm ok with that.) Thank you for doing this. It's a great help to those that never learned the good builds. And all the tips and tricks you teach along the way.

i played blizz/hydra on ladder start and was pleasantly surprised..same with the a1 merc. a1 insight merc doesn't do much damage, but she stays out of trouble which my gold reserves appreciate :)

MrLlamaSC @ 17:20 You are talking about Fire Mastery VS Fireball's 14% synergy from Firebolt, and I noticed you're assuming those percentages are directly comparable. That's not actually true, because Fire Mastery may only grant 7% more Fire Damage for Hard Points 2-20, but that is taken into account *after* your gear and skill bonuses. This is something I noticed while trying to maximize Fireball's damage with my FO/Fireball sorc, and the difference as you gear up more and more is quite noticeable. You can verify this in-game or via a skill calculator.

Ladder only runewords is the only reason. D2R moved some over to single player, but I don’t believe they moved them all.

My favorite variation on this build is hydra as the main skill with glacial spike as the left mouse skill. Glacial is great because it freezes the mobs, and they dont move so the hydras get them really good. It is a very safe build, even good for hardcore. It is not fantastic for killing fire immunes but in a lot of cases it will kill them, and/or just freeze them while your merc kills them. It is a really good, fun, playable build and doesnt need big FCR so you get lots of gear options. Best merc prob act2 heal merc with triple heal from insight weap and cleansing hat

If you are following the hydra orb build then you can do stony tombs in act 2 there's no fire or cold immune down there, otherwise moat tricking meph is good and also farming Andy is good if you don't have great gear yet. I think cows with this build takes a long time but if you are doing blizzard or some other character cows would be good.

nm meph is my first stop after finishing the game. he has lots of drops and is very easy to kill. as a fire sorc you can also farm hell andy at a lower level if you are careful

I don't think the central orb does any more dmg or any dmg at all, its just where the frost bolts spawn so if you put that into the monster center of mass it gets hit by every single frost bolt thats generated and melts much better. So the skill in maining frozen orb is in lining it up properly and through doors to clear rooms safely ( whether because squishy or playing HC ). And there was a lot of skill issue in the frozen orb aiming in this vid. Which explains in big part why most people prefer to use blizzard and say frozen orb is bad.

Was hydra changed up in Resurrected? Cause if I remember correctly, hydra used to be primarily a pvp skill opposed to pve. Mind you, this was when I was playing at 16 years old and I'm 34 now. So it's been quite a long time ago lol. So I don't really remember an orb/hydra build being very popular back then. That's why I wonder if its been changed/buffed or something. It's odd to see that skill being used in a single player build, that's all.

I really like the frozen orb/hydra combo, but I've got a question. Would a blizzard/hydra build work too? Or would it not work as well? If it wouldn't work as well then what would be the reason? What might be holding it back?

I think blizzard doesn't work as well because it requires far more skill points that Froz Orb to max out (more synergies). That said, Blizz doesn't need to be maxed to do decent damage.

You're playing online where map loads everytime.., whereas for offline the map is available unless you change difficulties that's when maps reset

I typically shop the items in Act 4, I have gotten Armor with 24 FHR, 30% Lightning Res and 2 sockets from Larzuk, I kept that armor for a very long time lol

1:12:00 - you're talking about FCR a lot, but it's got to be less important on this character than anywhere else. I suppose it helps get your hydras out faster, but beyond that it only helps with teleport and the occasional static field. I'd say the + to skills is more important on this char, personally. I guess if you keep getting reverse-telestomped, then you can revisit the fcr question, but I'd at least *try* enlightenment.

Teleport is just so crucial. Otherwise you are correct that it isn't quite as important but still does a lot with static and hydra drops

Running Ancients Pledge, Lore, Spirit, Hsarus boots/belt, FCR ring, res amulet, and an insight on my merc is almost an autopilot on NM, I way overleveled looking for runes for my gear, but I just beat Meph in less than a minute without bothering with the mote trick, this char is for real, just gotta find a way to get some MF on her and she'd easily be the best first char to start

The most common mistake I ever see is players who think energy is a bad stat because it sais so on their endgame build. They just didn't understand that this was for mid and late game. When levelling, it gives a lot more speed than any extra vitality ever did. Put more into energy and earlier. Minimizing energy is PURELY AN ENDGAME OPTIMIZATION. You dont know how much strength and dex you need yet because you will swap gear 20 times before you get there.

Literally 90% of a build for MOST characters can be found in nightmare. Take sorceress for example. Her highest required unique to function very well is what.. shaco? That can be found in nightmare but extremely rare and only on Baal as far as I know. Everything else is in the 40s or so and rather easy to farm. It's one of the reasons I feel item levels are... off. Or lack real power progression? i'm unsure how to phrase it, but when most of the BEST stuff for casters are only locked behind the mid difficulty setting, it just feels odd. But it's a 20 year old + game. Who knows

Kinda gives you a reason to play again tho. After watching a video of Zealot Paladin I decided to beat D2 b4 D4 but then I realized I can't get a hellfire torch til Hell. Zeal isnt really nothin without Hellfire right? So then I made a sorc to farm and speed through the acts again. So I guess I'm in it to Hell :)

Coz orb doesn’t need 80sp to deal damage. Actually, it requires about 30-40. You don’t even need to invest a lot into cold mastery, because of second school. In general, Fo/something is the most efficient way to make a hybrid sorc.

If you're a bit patient, it's excellent for leveling, especially for newer players like me who take their time exploring, examining, etc. For a speedrunner tho, I can see why it's just more efficient to get better at potion management

1 point in Warmth is generally accepted. Anything more than that is a waste because even with a lot of points, the mana regen is still pretty slow. A merc with Insight is better than investment in Warmth.

@@Axetwin Did they change it? I haven't played the game since it first came out and when I had max points in Warmth, I barely saw the mana sphere be half-blue even with Energy Shield and in hell mode. At that time, I thought 20 points in Warmth is too much.

seems like a respec out of ice sounds like it still kinda took a extra 20 min but i guess if somehow you glitch the last room or something your lvl 20 can boss nightmare getting double xp but losing out on a respec costed what seemd to be like it was just a 2 year thing just that went down the drain and people notice that the 3 little respecs you do get are usually meant for endgame when you get to try all the weapons so this cheatcode to use a char jus for getting endgame status sounded vauge its cool that you can get like hell armor in like 8 hours if you tried but if you didn't have like a amulet from crossfactioning act 3 for some normal boots and a good amount of collect 2 things win drop money run you wasn't multifacinating the game then the 3 boots you did find in hell you was too strong to use them or something losing like 40 lvls on calculation because you didn't know where to farm i guess or couldn't because the respecs are kinda used for like 2 years into nightmare at like lvl 67 for equipment that took like 90 hours off a lvl 90 making it a good i guess 2k hours for a 90 instead of like 400 hour gain on char worth of respecs i guess the average player might already know this but not knowing and kinda side knowing it gets on my nerves and i can't even cast a spell cause i guess it's too easy the 400 spells i do have to cast instead of using the corners in the game to cut a good 40% out of everything givin seems kinda old but if i couldnt lvl with enchanting without smacking for like 300 hours i don't think people think its a gaem...........)

I just realized how unfair this game is. Curse applies to every attack and it doesn't even have to hit. You can still get cursed by a melee attack when you're running away with light speed. When the attack animation finishes there's a 25% chance that you're cursed. And it also applies to magic attacks from monsters, or the frost nova on death, and so does added elemental damage! How unfair is that? If I have 5 billion cold damage from charms and I shoot a fire bolt, no cold damage is added, but a fire ball from a spectral hit shaman can even poison you. Totally unfair. And I also want hydra to do 500% damage to minions :p At least! ;p Just to make things more balanced and fair :)

Blizzard has a weird hit box. It doesn't hit the entire area it appears over. Instead it hits in lines, so a mob will be in a "hit line" then walk and end up between two "hit lines"

That's KZbin's rendering fault. Watching a video right when it's uploaded will cause that issue. It fixes itself over time, usually less than an hour for quality and audio issues.
