Totally agree with you on the Let's Play vs Long Play distinction. If I just want to see gameplay with no commentary, I'll play the game. I watch channels like yours because I want to see someone going through the game and talking about the lore, as well as the occasionally humorous deaths and fun musical cues!

To Elizabeth's grafting idea, it seems most anything associated to Marika has grafting attached to it, even the Gargoyles have 2 faces as grafted dead champions. I think it's a nice touch with the tree theme.

This town has a Minas Morgul vibe to it with the green tinge and the Black Knife Assassins filling in for the Nazgul.

I feel like causality and the fight against it to be a big theme in this game. I don't think it is a coincidence that All of Markia's children except the most Dedicated to Godfrey have either had a hand in plot to kill Godwyn in order to restore Death, have taken to aided an entirely different God to go against the Greater Will, or have plotted to bring about a Godless Erdtreeless Future. Other than Morgot, Godrick, and Radahn (who speculatively didn't even like Morgot but didn't want the Order to die) every other child that Marika has is dead or seemingly plotted against the Erdtree or the Greater Will, and we have ZERO evidence to suggest any of them even had a relationship with their mother, much less do we have enough to say they hated her for giving them the pieces of the Elden Ring. Normally you could just say that doesn't make sense. But if Marika was the person who told them all to do it...and the 3 most dedicated to the Order refused...it could explain why Malenia went to war with Radahn to install Miquella, it could explain why all the living children of Markia when we start the game are Anti-Erdtree, but not necessarily Anti-Marika. The only people in the whole game who expressly curse Marika, even going so far as to strike her image from their grounds: is Raya Lucaria, who was so interwoven in internal upheaval they didn't even agree on whether to worship the moon or the stars.

Here's a crazy idea: I get the impression the Misbegotten are more like the Omen of a previous age, although the curse was not yet considered a curse...OR a previous iteration of the Tarnished (as in, what the Tarnished are to Marika, the Misbegotten were to a Previous Emperyean.) Although I do think it more likely to be the predecessor of the Omen Curse.

I absolutely just remembered a very crazy Alexandrian Wiccan idea of preservation by burying your heart in the roots of a tree. It might not be Alexandrian. But the blood magic version of preservation for eternity in curse until the person who curses achieved their goal, or the heart was found and destroyed.

Regarding Albinaurics, I always found it curious that the second generation looks so much more primitive than the first. Did the sorcerers find having a servile creation that looked so like them to be too disconcerting?

Those statues holding plants you are lighting in the Evergaol? I think that is Miquella holding the sapling of the Haligtree. Miquella is noted to be in the form of a child and this is the gateway to his tree.

11:32 Dave explains wath contigious stratigraphy is. This is a important concept in geology and archaeology. Dave speaks about Rome. Other examples are tells and terps. Both are artificial hill that are formed by subsequent occupation on the same place. The difference between the 2 is de geografic location en which sediment they are made of. It's not always true that the rich live above and the poor live belove. A nice example are the Alpes. In the past (before Alpinism was a thing around 200-300 years ago) the poorer communities live more above and the rich lived more in the valleys. Other example: In most cities in the development world is the richer part of the city located in the west en the poorer parts are located in the east.

This might be just me, but do the Black Knife Assassins have a darker than normal blood? It looked black to me. Also FANTASTIC editing choice for keeping the music for the last run against the rooftop archer (where you say "you. need. to die"). It kept me in suspense!

Sorry for the late comment, but one thing I want to point out regarding the Golden Order Greatsword. You mentioned that it was once a Dark Moon Greatsword, however we received the DMGS from Ranni, who found the Dark Moon. Rennala found the Full Moon, so what if hers is the Full Moon Greatsword? Potentially a DLC set in the past could have us receiving this?

Hi Dave! I was wondering, do you think making a community post were we could posit random bits of Elden Ring lore in the comments would be a good idea? While I am usually vomiting my ideas and theories as I watch the Lets Play, I do sometimes have brainwaves and no good place to share them. (For example, the word Numen is deeply connected to ancient Roman concepts of religion and means "an act that represents the product or expression of power" and that connection clicked while I was watching a video about early roman religion). If you don't think that's a good idea, it's ok! Thank you for considering!

i used to perfer no commentary let's play/walk through but after mahalo shut down it got had to find good ones now i perfer talk. though i wish you'd explain tactics and tells more on boss fights for the most part you stay on topic. there was a guy called "let's play darksouls hd" who i general who did awesome blind soulsborne and action rpg playthroughs, he gone now, but one time he spent 15 minutes talking about his toilet trouble and i almost put my head through the wall.

Is it just me or does Latenna seem to know what has been happening with the Albinaurics? The Big Sister is not in the gaol. Why would the Albinaurics be in a gaol all the way up here? We know they were created after the Flame of Ruin was destroyed and Marika's Empire came up. The only people that could put them in a gaol up on the mountain are Malenia and Miquella. What were they doing again? Oh yeah! Trying to usurp Marika, The Greater Will, and the Erdtree itself? Hmmmm. Yeah they seem like good kids, I'm sure they don't melt down Albinaurics to create a loyal King's Guard or anything. Bc they're such good kids. Yknow?

this is an excellent place for a gaol. it remote inhospitable and hard to reach the real question is why are there gaols in easy to reach places.
