It's been awhile since I've wanted Quill to play something, I'm hyped for this series. Hopefully it doesn't end up like Medieval Frontier.

Hey man, I really like your videos. I've watched a bunch of your EU4 videos to try to wrap my head around the game. But I still can't play it... it's not for want of trying and I do what everyone says ("Just watch tutorials man.") But I can't figure it out. I'm a relatively intelligent 45 year old guy, I'm well read, I know how to work with computer interfaces at all levels... You said something around the 2:24 mark of this video that made me think. You said something like "OK before the video I've played a couple games of about two hours each so far, just to try to learn the early phase, try to figure out a little bit of an optimal way to get started." Maybe that's what I need to see? Everyone posts these "tutorials" that do the following: a) Go over (sometimes excessively) the UI and basic concepts. That's great. b) Then they kind of like... effortlessly and with no friction, slide into late early game/early mid-game. Do you know what I mean? There's not enough failure, false starts, disasters in early game. Then I could watch someone else fail, instead of seeing them have an easy early game and then tackle these more complicated mid-game issues that are way out of my current pay grade. Maybe that's how I learn, failure. 😂 It's certainly how I bumble through many technical issues in life (shell scripting/tooling, etc.) So hey man, maybe you know some other channels. I probably know of all the big common "EU4 tutorial" channels, and my Google-fu is strong. Maybe you know some "Let's learn to not be horrible at this game together" videos or something. And buddy, this is NOT a criticism of you... this is entirely my fault, and I'm asking someone I respect for help. Anyway this game looks cool, I have a friend who is playing it a lot. Cheers mate.

I lagged my way up to a large city with 600 population... lag started around 200 pop. When raiders attack it's like 125 at a time and my framerate drops to unplayable levels. It might be fun to play again with a focus on defense and avoiding growth because you can grow till the lag is unbearable.

@@TheHuffmanator I don't really think that's the answer with this game... I see people with some of the best hardware you can get still having an issue with stuttering. The devs are going to have to fix the patfinding code or whatever is causing it.

Fresh meat cures scurvy. Note Amundson's run to the south pole. His crew ate his dogs on the way back. Scott, trying to compete with him, died just short of his last cache, likely because of scurvy.

Even meat has enough vitamin C. The is problem if food has reasonable amounts of glucose and low vitamin C, as glucose is very similar in structure to vitamin C and can block the vitamin C absorbers or somethin? Societies where people eat a lot of meat stuffs but little carbohydrate do not all get scurvy. The reason they had it in the navy was the diet of salted meat and low vitamin but glucose containing ships biscuit. In the gulag, they had very low nutrient gruel and very high glucose but low vitamin C bread, as well as being generally starved and not having enough of anything anyway. The is a section of Gulag Archipelago all about the symptoms of various deficiencies that they would develop.
@DaDunge2 жыл бұрын
26:30 Fairly certain you need to eat vagule fresh fruits or vegtables. Meat and fish won't prevent scruvy.

Quill, you might want to look at early access game Foundation! It's a town builder without grid system where you can design your own buildings like town halls, inns, churches and castles (using parts, some of which are locked at the start and unlocked by playing). It was very relaxing and pretty-looking.

re your scurvy comment: Yeah, in particular, fresh red meat has Vitamin C and lots of times your villagers are eating that vs preserved/smoked meat, and should NOT be getting the scurvy warning, but they still might as the game doesn't know about it.

The game looks great but I can't get past the irritation of the fact that 'farthest' is not a real world. It is a corruption of 'furthest', based on the assumption that it should look and sound closer to 'far' for reasons. The sound and sight of this word grates on me.
