Farming tip: crop rotation is a method of reducing diseases affecting your veggies. Leeks are a bit more resistant, but in general you want to avoid repeating the same (type of) crop. The game isn't very informative what is similar crops and what isn't.

@quill18 I just found out that there are two spots in my crop field that holds the beehives quite nicely and you get a bonus to your honey production.

I tried playing Banished a couple months ago and MAN I see why that game was so huge when it was new, but it definitely shows its age now in some really key ways. I feel like once development progresses on this it might could take the spot that Banished getting old has left open. Real excited to see where it goes

I know I don't like how much Paradox Interactive charges for DLC but man could you imagine if more games had their model of supporting a game for many years releasing DLC. I am hesitant to buy early access games as some stay unfinished for half a decade or never really get finished.

+5/+-5 means it has a value of +5 out of a range from -5 -> +5. The line on the fertility bar is neutral (0).

I kinda like how trading works now that I've seen it. It's a lot more deliberate than you usually see, in that it separates your market goods from your town usage goods, Though I think it would be nice if the minimums went the other way; keep X amount in global stock then transfer excess to trade hub. So you can look at you global stocks every now and then, see what you might have an excess of, transfer it to your trade hub, and the next time traders come around, see who's buying what and what you either want to offload now or wait for a better price. It sort of encourages you to be proactive on what you want to offload rather than just sell your global stock whenever a trader comes around. Then there's where your gold is; trade, stockhouse, or vault, when it comes to things like raiders. It's not only important what you have, but where it is, and not a lot of games do that. "Buy orders" I'm a little less certain about. I'm not sure how much traveling merchants really took "requests", and I feel like they're more interested in the total supply and demand of their route for what they think they'll get the most profit from, so it's sort of take it or leave it on their stock since they're implicitly not just serving you.

Maybe the problem with low logs and planks stock is that you make way to much firewood (near 300 units at some points in the video, and it never went under 250 units) so all the wood end up there instead of making planks ?

Love your style for this awesome looking game! As you mentioned wanting to expand the settlement towards the iron mine/clay pit; maybe in due course, you can move the iron mine a little further down past the big rocks with the working area still hitting those iron deposits.

Don't you think he would save expenses on adult diapers in the long run just by building an outhouse? I mean you don't have to buy adult diapers if you don't care about going in your pants, but most people would still rather go in an outhouse. Do you prefer going in your pants or in a diaper or in an outhouse?

Apiaries are very good. They don’t employ a person and just passively produce honey and wax. Goods good for export as they don’t spoil.

Also as there (currently) is no sugar resource, honey is the sweetener in this game, which makes it an essential resource for the brewery (& hence pub)

you can also place two apiaries in the little storage spot on every farm plot

Did you know that you can move/replant the Blueberry bushes? Most players I have watch play this game move them next to the Farm as a secondary crop.

In the "ep 3" I believe you will se the major issue with the iron and why you won't be able to produce barrels any way :/

Built the cemetery next door to the root cellar. I'm having flashbacks to when he killed a Cities: Skyline town by putting a cemetery or crematorium next to one of his water sources. :D

There's a real lack of innovation. Just rehash after rehash of games and ideas we saw already, often decades ago. This game, for example, looks fine, but I can't see anything that hasnt' been done already. Many times. At least it looks good and doesn't use that awful pixel art that has lower resolution than in the 1980s!

Hi Quill - question on the farming: Does the scale not indicate the best period to plant crops (the middle part of the banner) and then the beginning and end (which i assume is winter) would be when you schedule your farm maintenance?

the scale matches the years seasons. farms work in 3 year rotations with the left side of the scale the spring, and right side winter. it's rather complex and takes a fair bit of trial and error to get the hang of it. Ideally you want to build up 3 5x5 plots (1 per year) and each plot does a triple field maintenance for it's first year to clear out rocks/weeds. Then you will offset each fields crops. (Example : Field A Year 1 peas, turnips. Field B Year 2 peas, turnips. Field C Year 3 peas, turnips. This allows for a specific crop to be available every year just from a different field) Also if you plan ahead... start with 5x5 but slowly increase the size of each field with more and more population till it's a 10x10. Which overlaps with the grazing field size of cattle (increases fertility).

I wonder if turnips will work. They feel like winter vegetables, not spring/summer ones, due to high cold resistance but not hot resistance.

No. Not yet.

Yes, under decorations. They cost gold, however, so it's not really meant for reforestation. In the late game you're really meant to just buy more logs from traders.

Reading steam reviews... does this game have issues with storage management and AI? I know the guild 3 does as well, I really want to avoid buying unfinished games like that.

Looking at the season bar at the top I'm not a fan of the pointer moving across the static bar. Doesn't tell you at a glance where you are. Don't most games communicate this by having "now" be the left side of the bar, and have the bar's seasons scroll from right to left?

They'll only use the temporary shelter if the workers are VERY far away from their homes--far enough that they'd freeze trying to get home in winter.

looks like a great game - one that I would enjoy - the "development" speed of everything seems very very slow. 1/2 hour just for a few huts and a couple of tech buildings? In other words seems like a slow game compared to the original SimCity and Civilization games and recent resource/empire games.

Confused since you listed two games that aren't a resource based game, and this isn't an empire game, it's survival/colony builder. The speed is quite on par with most in its category.

@@Sundown42 Your point is a fair one. Let me re-iterate, I will probably enjoy this game fare more than 99% of alll others being published. However, I don't consider games to be in strict categories since they cross-use key goals and mechanisms of play in order to be dynamic experiences.

Nope.. It has a very unintuitive press tab to rotate 90 degrees.
