I think back on the day, and I’m not claiming to have my fingers on the pulse of the modern interpretations that seem to change ever other week, but when the game was still highly regarded it was the second best selling FF game for like over a decade. I’m sure it’s been over taken now... there was always a debate of which one was best and everyone had a least favorite. 8 happened to be mine from the psx era, but it was never really hated at least in the groups of nerds I knew lol. I think now people rag in the polygon art of 7 the most and 9 seems to be peoples favorite in general. I think 9 scales terribly on my recent replay and I’m just redoing 8 now.. but 9s end game abilities arent worth it compared to the late materia or jobs or whatnot. Even the weapons just start to feel meh to me personally. I think it has the best start and mid game aside from maybe 5.. it just scales so poorly for my taste. I’m hoping 8 holds up as well or better than I remembered. My 7 and 5 play throughs were just as good as I remembered. 6 is a lot of fun like it always was, but it’s flaw for me is the level of little details you have to know of luck into.. it’s like the peak example of a game you’d need a guide for if you want to get some amazing stuff super early there’s just too many secrets for me lol. Like I had to restart because I realized after reuniting the party that I’d missed the genji gloves.. I’d even said the correct response twice, not because I remembered it at the time but because that was the answer I’d give the dude from a role playing perspective lol. Like terra at that moment wouldn’t be all about being a symbol for their movement.. at least 5 gives you abilities to find things lol

I loved playing this game when it first came out. In fact I've loved pretty much every Final fantasy game I've played, and I started playing on the nintendo. I just wish they would add a volume control for the Music in some of the remastered games. Especially Star ocean. I never considered keeping my level low when this game first came out. In fact I never heard of doing that until recently.

Read review before remastered. Original FF developers were busy making FF movie "Spirits Within", so FF8 was created by a younger crew who were not involved in previous ones. It looks like senior guys did not give the love this game deserved, most likely due to their flop movie and seeing how great this one looked without their involvement. Still today, they claim they were not jealous or whatever, still looks like they were, so advertising for it was nearly non existing. My favorite of the FF series.

I managed to get to the beach without any encounter, ounce there save, then scan for 2 lvl 6 = 98xp or or 2 lvl 7 =100xp when you kill them with GF. after 7 fights you get CARD, Then card everything on your way and choose 20 min so you have time to draw and card in the cavern, bomb cards are pretty good starting playing card (got 3). Ended back at garden with Ifrit > Squall = lvl8 736xp to next lvl, Quistis = lvl 9 725xp to next lvl., 3 Bomb cards, 1 KRYSTA card. Had to kill some bats in the cave (they are so frail), no escaping battles..

I personally don’t avoid leveling up altogether. Rather, I like to scale my party to level with the concurrent level cap of the next boss you face. I level as follows: Dollet - 11 Timber - 12 Deling City - 20 Missile Base - 22 Battle with NORG - 27 Fishermen’s Horizon - 28 Balamb - 29 Galbadia Garden - 30 Battle with Edea - 32 Estar - 34 Lunatic Pandora - 46 Final Battle - 65+ It makes the game more interesting, it feels like what the devs intended and you’re not over leveling. Since everyone is consistent with leveling, I’ve often KO’d Squall to get the others leveled up when he reaches said boss’s level cap. Lunatic Pandora is particularly unique because the monsters are all restricted down to level 1, which can help you with killing monsters to get your SeeD rank up naturally, if you’re not into doing so with the tests. Of course, you have other methods at your disposal to help with that as well.

Beat ifrit in under 4 mins..... Basically draw a couple thunders from a red bat, have quistis use two on squall, get him to yellow. Use renzokuken three with rough divide, 4 times if rough divide doesn't happen

Thanks! I was finally able to kill the mechanical spider on Dollet. On a side note, everyone knows about getting the Elvoret card from Bite Bugs and the Giant Cactuar from Glacial Eyes. However, while farming in the woods outside Balamb, I got the Trauma card using the Card ability on a Caterchipiller.

Ifrit and Diablos on Zell/Irvine just spam mug and attack suitable element to his elem attk j and its easy gaming from there... squall is better as a tank with carbuncle and brothers, cover and counter on drawing duty.. and your third party member on magic and healing / esuna duty... stacking everything on squall reduces your overall team dps and late game its impossible if/when he gets petrified or confused etc... set zell/Irvine for the mindless spam physical dmg role... have a mage... and use squall as the glue that makes the team work... its much easier against harder battles... the easier boss fights may take slightly longer, but overall there is much less jeopardy... Also... a little cheat from the original game... give blizzara and blizzaga elem def, to one ally, thundaga attk. Thundara and thundaga elem def, to another ally, firaga attk. Fira firaga elem def to third ally, blizzaga attk... from there, basic attacking your own team gives insane healing ;) squall full heals zell with a sword, zell full heals rinoa with a punch, and rinoa full heals squall throwing a plate in his face... beautiful scenes... Finally... diablos cheese... draw cast demi on him until the dmg drops below 1000. Finish him off with gfs... Little unknown fact about diablos... his summon does % damage equal to his level. So at level 50 he does half their hp as dmg. Level 100 is instant death

Your 1st attempt on Ifrit was perfect. (0-7seconds) 100 pts. 2nd was less optimal... 3-10 minutes => 50 pts. If you do anything outside of the perfect run, you get deductions. Conduct 25+ minutes remaining Judgment (0-7second remaining) Attack (75+ foes defeated) Spirit (1 escapes from X-atm092) Attitude (deductions) 1> talking during Dollet exam (-1) 2> going to communications tower without Seifer's command (-1) 3> Selphie's shortcut taken (-5) 4> save the dog during escape (-10) 5> go to cafe while escaping (-20) Bonus: +100 for a kill X-atm092 (on the bridge) ==> -30 on spirit criteria above for #2 escape 500+ pts ==> seed lvl 10

Tetra master was random, but I was able to eventually consistently win card games most of the time. Sure there were moments when RNG screwed what were my superior match ups to weaker npc cards. Not only that in Tetra master you could level up the cards you used. I eventually got a set of incredibly op cards all with X attack type which pretty much made them all able to beat any match up. Tetra master wasn't as bad as people think. Its probably just that you get nothing for playing the card game besides the championship match up with Cid that probably pissed people off. At least in the new version u get a trophy for collecting all the cards on the ps4.

Hey Fuzz you can easily get the Card Command without lv up at all. And with the card command you can go on with the lowest level for a long time. Just junction your 2 GFs to the party go straight to ifrit (dont forget to set your abilitys) after the ifrit fight go to the beach (ignore all other fights) and use your gfs to kill those fishies (prefered gf calls are quezacotl and then shiva). I did that a few times and didnt gain any level. Even at the dollet mission i didnt gain a level while i killed tha robospider to early and had random encounters

Here are the achievements dropped for this trophy list: * Top Level (Reach Level 100 with someone) * Maximum Gil (Get 999,999,999 gil in your account) * Chocoloot (Acquire an item from Chocobo World) [They didn't implement Chocobo World in this game] * Blue Magic Master (Get all of Quistis's Limit Break attacks) [Because some are missable] * Magazine Addict (Read all of the magazines in the game) [There are way too many magazines and half of them aren't necessary] * Collector (Collect all cards) [Some cards are missable] * Dog Trainer (Learn all of Rinoa's limit breaks) [ * Top Level Boko (Get Boko to Level 100) [Exclusive to Chocobo World, which isn't in the PS4 version) * Contrived Finish (Beat the game with Squall not gaining any levels) [Squall would have to remain dead for the entire game] * 10,000 Kills [They didn't want you to take forever to get the platinum] Yeah, many of these are annoying. I could easily get 10,000 kills because of the grinding you have to do, and I could get Quistis and Rinoa's limit breaks, but I'd kill this game if they had left Contrived Finish in it as I do like to get a few levels for grinding purposes. And the Magazine and Collector trophies are totally missable which is annoying. Glad they dropped those though I really would have liked to check out Chocobo World. :)

I still have the original PS1 disk to this day of this game, sadly for the longest time I could not go between disk 1 and 2 in a play through as disk 1 had a scratch that froze the game just before the final battle on disk 1 ... until I found the PS3 would not only play the game but let you get past it. The funny thing is these remasters came out a year or so before I heard there was no more backwards compatibility in future playstations and boom they where on sell on Steam and only now can I really play the way everyone suggests to get the most out of this game. Yes Steam has FF3 through 15 now (though the remakes of 3 and 4 looks like the original ff7 in the pics now instead of FF6) So it seems I'll still have to break out my old PS1 disks of FF 1 and 2 and dig out my PS3 to play them if I want to play them

Hunting and carding Trex is consistenly easy and 10 AP per battle is great at maxing your GM abilities early or you could just use Saifer leveling method at Dollet. You can get TRex to spawn consistently by manipulating RNG, namely just save and reload your game and dont do anything else, your fist encounter in the Forrest will always be TRex.

This guy is really fun and I enjoy that he isn’t afraid to draw properly and take his time instead of rushing through everything, but he also tries to find a balance so the viewing experience doesn’t feel quite as grindy as it could be in a standard ff8 experience. My favorite ff is 8 as it was the first jrpg I was able to try. Very sentimental title to me. I received as a hand down, a ps1 and a family video disc set of ff8 when my older cousins got a ps2 for their birthday. Playing again after all these years on my switch!

I played the old demo w Brave Fencer Musashi and it was rough compared to 4,6,7 at the time (the only ones really out back then). It seemed like the focus was more on graphics and they should have had more time to develop... as for 12 I was so pumped after 11 (which I couldn’t really play at the time because I kinda still refuse to pay a monthly fee for something I buy.. 14 almost convinced me but whatever I played through the trial periods with demos and more power to mmorpg people just not my bag).. if anything there was so little linearity at the beginning of that game I spent over 4 hours in the first city lol.. had the hard book and special edition guide so I went all out and I was hit with a big meh. I need to give it another look since getting into more games that aren’t linear.. even the elder scrolls give you a dash of linear before they send you off lol.. maybe I just wasn’t receptive to it back then.. I was super into my snes at the time lol.

Square probably decided to stick with the 4:3 aspect ratio so that the pre-rendered background would keep their detail. I imagine if they hadn’t the backgrounds would look like a giant indiscernible mess of pixels and completely unrecognizable.

I think one reason FFVIII gets a bad rap is primarily because of the junction system and how cumbersome it can be. At least that’s why I’m not the fondest of FFVIII. I think if Triple Triad and it’s true purpose for being in the game had been better explained in terms of how engrained it is with the junction system and the refinement mechanic maybe more people would have given it more of a chance. I’m only just finding out all the stuff you can do with junction system via Triple Triad and refining the cards, and I’ve attempted to play FFVIII probably 5 or 6 times now. If the systems had been better explained it wouldn’t have taken me so long to finally sit down and get through the game.

He went straight from battling Ifrit to Balamb and even refused to pay yet still got asked the option to battle for the change. I don’t ever get the option to battle her for the change.

@@unknowingreaper6556 smart or zoom function on HD TVs work, cause thats not true 4:3 but 10:7 resolution, you get black bars from all sides of screens so when you screch that to full zoom screen its still okay. :-)

Hey, it unlocks once Fire refinement ability has been learned, however Ifrit needs to be level 10 for it to show.

If you get attacked after u choose gf but before the gf actually gets to attack it takes away part of the gf's hp instead of your own hp...iirc

Speaking of this remaster, HOW THE HELL IS THAT EVEN A REMASTER? Updating character and Monster Models and little else is disgustingly bare-bone, i seen madders do better work on the 2016 Steam Version! In fact I'd rather be playing that one, however that is impossible as my gaming computer is broken right now! Furthermore with you can use randomizer on the PC version as well, makes the game unpredictably hilarious!
