Game Description:
Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant's critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.
BATTLE OUT OF HELL
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you'll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.
UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.
BEFRIEND GODS, GHOSTS, AND MONSTERS
A fully-voiced cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters is waiting to meet you! Grow your relationships with them, and experience thousands of unique story events as you learn about what's really at stake for this big, dysfunctional family.
BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY
New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
Permanent upgrades mean you don't have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.
SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE
The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that's been core to Supergiant's games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.
REVIEWS
“Hades is a one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that does a brilliant job of marrying its fast-paced action with its persistent, progressing story through a vividly reimagined Greek mythological underworld.”
9/10 - IGN
“Hades is one of the best roguelites of all-time.”
10/10 - TheSixthAxis
“It's hard to imagine anyone other than Supergiant pulling off this Herculean feat with such style.”
9/10 - Destructoid

A hundred hours (at least) before you run the risk of repeat dialogue for anything but the most minor bits. Over 300,000 words of dialogue, most of it spoken. Yes, it's a literal full-sized (MASSIVE) novel on its own, again, mostly spoken.

This is my GOTY, and is already one of my favourite games of all time. There's so much I'd love to say about this game, but I want you to experience that for yourself. The time to gush about the finer details is later. For now all I'll say is that with Hades you can just feel the love put into very corner of this game, and that love and care from the developers creates a level of quality that is nigh unparalleled. Everything just feels SO good on a deep, deep level. I hope you enjoy this one, Keith.

The only thing I could want is some more end game content, but given I've spent 100+ hours on a game that cost 30 bucks, I can't really complain too much. ;) I'd also give it my GoTY, though I haven't played any playstation exclusives that are dominating a lot of peoples lists.

On when to end series: despite this being a rouge-like there is an actual defined end with credits rolling and everything but it's not that easy to reach, mind you. I don't want to spoil anything, but if you have fun with the game then I'd recommend to play until the credits roll. Or if you really like it there's still plenty, and I mean plenty, of "content" after that.

You probably figured this out by now, but just in case you haven't: The more important thing with armor is that beyond being a second health bar, is that it grants infinite Poise, by default certain weapons like the sword can effectively stunlock most enemies if you spam attacks, armor is primarily to prevent this, once armor is peeled off you can just chain stun most enemies.

It's not an exclamation mark. It's a vertically flipped version of the head of Hades' bident. The same shape is commonly featured elsewhere in the game. For example, it is included in the sigil shown before enemies spawn, it's the shape of Hades' 'stache, it's obviously the shape of Gigaros' head and it marks boats on the floor of the Asphodel Meadows.

26:10 Zagreus is not the same actor, but the Narrator and Hades (and Achilles, Poseidon, and Charon) are. Zagreus and Skelly are the same guy though... So that's interesting that nobody seems to know of Skelly but Zagreus. 41:37 If a god/goddess offers a boon for the same slot, which is rare, but happens, the replacement will have upgraded rarity from the one it's replacing.

I am so impressed by how well Hades manages to frame its roguelike aspect. The story, huge amount of dialogue and constant gameplay mechanic addition drip make every run feel like a genuine continuation rather than a repeat. It took me over 20 hours of playing this game before I started noticing some roguelike fatigue, but exactly in that moment I managed to make it all the way to the final boss and almost cleared my first run - and that completely rejuvinated my motivation. The true secret to video games is pacing, and this game aces that like none other

I hope you'll enjoy it, I think this game easily offers something even for those who dont enjoy rogue-likes. "God Mode" essentially makes it easier if you end up struggeling too much so you can focus on the story, but I doubt you'll need it. (I think it makes you stronger each time you die?) As other have said, there is definitely a more clear-cut ending to the game. And side note: yes, if I recall correctly, some of the tracks from Hades do feature references to riffs from DOOM!

Big thing to realize is that meg's summons are distractions, they respawn, they don't mob up and chase you, they are only relevant you get close, so don't waste time hunting them down, when you could be doing damage to her. As an aside meg is the only floor boss with infinite summons, with other bosses clearing the minions is useful. Dash deflect is awesome because it effectively increases number the I-frames to dark souls dodge levels, normal dash has i frames just not as much as you are accustomed to. In terms of raw +% damage increase Aphrodite is the best, other gods might eventually out dps her with their gimmicks, but she just the most straightforwardly powerful. Also you gab on to a bitter truth really quickly, most wins are carried by super weapons you ultimately stack compilatory boons to turn either your attack, special, or cast into a super weapon, once you unlock all the options you basically fish for specific boons, and if get lucky you can assemble game winning super weapons by the first or second boss.

>Bastion instant eternal faith Same, there's just so much of they do right you can feel the game oozing personality and polish. Transistor I liked less but that's mostly my distaste for sci-fi, the game itself was amazing, and their balancing with audio layer for the different game state was WHEW, the bar for quality just keeps rising. And then Pyre, to me that's the Golden Child, as an ex-Visual Novel addict the immersion for that heavily story-based gameplay just presses all the right buttons. So I already commented on the other video about good end points for Hades but: Ending, getting to the credits has a very defined timecost whose variance is entirely dependant on your skill level, from what I can tell watching your other series I think this might be quite a short series if you decide to end it here. Epilogue, this one might be a bit of a sinkhole because iirc the conditions has some reliance on conversation rng which you need to first exhaust, then get them, then maybe finish certain questlines to get to, although imo this is where people with time constrains but love what Supergiant has put out so far should finish their playthroughs here, because a lot of the narrative juicy bits is contained within this segment. 100%, Don't think this is possible for the channel unless you suddenly get addicted enough to the game for it to be your next Soul/Zelda megaplaylist of 500+ videos. But as a Supergiant addict goddamn they really used the Early Access model to its full potential to fill the game to the brim with interesting bits, I don't think I've played another roguelite that has this much unique content in it without the repetition starting to kick in and deflating the replay value.

Hades has quite a lot in the story department (and a ton of voice lines for pretty much every occasion) so the game will probably feel "fresh" for a while despite the base mechanics of Roguelites. There is an actual ending to the game once you do certain things, with credits and whatnot; though that technically rolls over into an Epilogue of sorts, which is where the absolutely "infinite replayability" comes from. If I was the one recording, I'd probably go at least until the credits, but I think going further and unlocking the various items and codex entries (aka story points) would be my ideal.

Ooh, this is gonna be a good one! Once you learn the ropes, each run takes around an hour (and you roughly need 10 full runs to experience everything), so a complete series would be at least 10 hours long. Besides that, I'd say make sure to learn what the door symbols mean, and use them to prioritize which room you'll go to (this is a point of discussion, but a priority people kinda agree with is Hammer > Double Boon > Boon > Shop = Gold (depending on which one you need more) > Heart > Key > Darkness/Renovations (Depending what you need more of currently) > Pom ). Also, try to save gold for the last area of the game, because there's a massive shop there (with many expensive items, you'll know it when you see it). And something else the game doesn't tell you is that the god boons are arranged in tiers (like "skill trees"), and boons from the next tier will only show up once you have the required boons from the same "tree" in previous tiers (the same God can have more one tree). Make sure to look up the "Hades boon infographic" (on Reddit) so you can plan your build a bit better. Finally, make sure you give each character (especially Gods) at least one Nectar (when you find them) to get their keepsake; a God's keepsake guarantees the next boon you'll find is theirs (that also gives you a little more control over your current build). Sorry for the big comment, but I hope it's helpful. Good luck!

There's maybe three or four major suitable ending points in the game depending how far you want to take the lets play. If you are enjoying the game I'd suggest looking up what is required to get the "true" ending with the credits (it's not something complicated, just a numerical thing, hence predictable). If you don't want to risk getting spoiled, look that up after you have made a full run once.

Really happy to see you return to this, it's great game, and mostly a great let's play candidate, but there is a pretty big potential pitfall with let's playing this to story's end. See there are two credit roll moments, the first is very straight forward to get(10 wins total), but second requires at least 6 maxed out relationships with an Olympian, among a few other things(at least 10 post game runs, one post game win, some dialog triggers with the oldest Olympians), if you(like me) didn't take to them and focused on nectaring other characters, you could end up having to do silly number of runs mid end game(the narrative tension dissipates really awkwardly) to get to the second credits roll. So yeah just heads up from day one you wanna be buttering up the Olympians.

Just for reference, Hades took me fewer hours than Mortal Shell. So the game isn't that long, at least to credits. I usually suck at roguelikes and i tend to give up very quickly, but this one keeps you going with the narrative elements, and it felt a lot easier than others i've played. You get to increase the difficulty later on, if you feel like it.

Depends, I've seen a lot of people take a lot longer, so probably depends on skill level and how much you care about the fated prophecies and such. Also there's story elements that take a lot longer to accomplish after the credits. Mortal Shell and this game is listed as about the same in length for the credits (without side missions). But sure, it's not designed to be overly difficult like most roguelikes, but I think that was fully on purpose. Usually roguelikes is about the win, here they take some of that and add story snippets as rewards instead.

The problem with rogue lites is that the first run doesn't feel like a real run if you can unlock stuff between runs. It feels like you have to grind for loot/upgrades before you can experience a real run. You shouldn't unlock stuff between runs imo. It's better when your skill is the only limiting factor.
@nihlify

If Hades only required skill by not having upgrades they'd need to make it a lot harder or people would just win every other run. And if it's harder it wouldn't work with the narrative element they have incorporated. Besides it doesn't take long before you can beat the game if you're really skilled anyway.
