I hate this mission so much, but I love the placement of that Diamond Geezer. Very convenient. Also, even if your Pistol does run out of ammo here, there's still the red, weak-as-crap backup blasts. They never run out, and though they aren't good for Drone killing, I think they still do the job with the Gems here. So, you don't have to run to the Diamond Geezer if that happens. Second player with Floyd helps a lot, too.

I always start with Goldwood/Gem Quarry just to get it out of the way. Sooo tedious.

Finish Goldwood Rim (which requires Rufus) and you get sent to Gem Quarry.

I've done this many, many times and never ever had a problem, never needed an ammo refill. I believe gem count (200?) is all that matters. Just take all the time you need. Perhaps the count resets back to 0 and you get a clear sky if you leave the area? Someone let me know. I save ammo by strafing and aiming with single shots from my pistol.
