So #LifeisStrange 2 Episode 4 is finally here, and of course there was only one person Aoife could experience it with. Johnny Chiodini (of Dicebreaker!) joined Aoife for ALL OF THE FEELS as the Diaz brothers are separated and alone in the world. Sean is at his lowest point, beaten and bruised, when an unexpected ally shows up to help reuinte the two brothers.

Nice little detail: What happens during your final decision doesn't depend on what order you choose to do them but on what you've taught Daniel throughout the series. The outcome would've been exactly the same had you chosen to ask Daniel the first time, but people who treated Daniel differently got an entirely different choice at this point.

@uncledonel1742 3 жыл бұрын
@@IDyce88 Surprisingly, a lot of people actually do get the other outcome where Daniel takes the matter to his own hands. The thing is, their bond with Daniel is super high at that point so while Daniel is choking Lisbeth, they can tell Daniel to spare her, which ultimately leads to the same outcome you see in the video. That's why the "Spare" option is the most popular one.

A lot of people playing this game have a weird angle on the racism. As a white person I come at that choice from a place of privilege as many do. A lot of people seem to get aggressive and angry but when I see minorities play I often see them comply with the racists because of being in similar positions and learning that to be safe you shouldn’t fight back because you’ll lose just because of who you are. They’ll turn it against you. It’s interesting seeing what choices people make. I’ve never experienced any racism but I’ve experienced a lot of homophobia so what I did was comply. I’ve been in situations where I couldn’t fight back because I would come off worse. Majorities often feel more confident standing up for themselves because they feel they can. It’s interesting to think about
@alexs1640
@alexs1640 5 жыл бұрын
As a Hispanic, I had a defiant stance too. Honestly it was more of a pride thing, less worried about getting my ass kicked. In my experience, people want to look good but they won't usually escalate. I grew up Spanish in a black area and I was often made to feel like an outsider. I wouldn't classify it as racism but it was similar enough. I always stood up for myself when I was treated differently. Funny how that works though
@geekwithglasses2897
@geekwithglasses2897 5 жыл бұрын
Alex S Yeah I get that as well but I see people that are majorities and privileged say that people that didn’t fight back are dumb or weak. I understand the pride thing because I do that as well but my point is that since majorities don’t really face it they don’t really understand the danger and gravity of the situation if you understand. Like the people, that might I add are all white, that are saying the depiction of racism isn’t realistic and that they need to keep politics out of their games. To quote Mari from geek remix “some things aren’t politics some things are just people’s lives and experience
@cerrobueno
@cerrobueno 5 жыл бұрын
I think in that situation, it's about self-preservation, regardless of your ethnicity. I complied with them and got away without being hit, as this was far more preferable than trying to stand up to one pathetic racist who you'll never see again and potentially getting life-changing injuries. I know it's only a game, but if you're an already vulnerable person like Sean was, it just doesn't make sense to me that you would try and stand up to someone like that.
@geekwithglasses2897
@geekwithglasses2897 5 жыл бұрын
uberanto Yeah But again seeing it as just one dumb racist is also something to think about. People that aren’t discriminated against (not saying you aren’t just saying in general) feel like they can stand up. It’s like being a white saviour y’know

@@geekwithglasses2897 I'm all for standing up to racism, really, and I admire those that do where there's a chance of actually making a difference, but I think there are better times to do it than when you're inevitably about to get the sh*t kicked out of you in the middle of the desert!

That goon, Nicholas, that worked for the Reverend had a file too. He was a criminal who spent several years in prison and found redemption at the church with the Reverend. (Dangerous and might come back later for revenge?) Really enjoyed the Let's Play!

I hear you! IMHO she is indeed phantastically written because neither her (nor the writers) make any excuses for her or indicate that what she did was OK. She pretty much said that she realised what she did to her family but that to her it was worth it. Parents abandon their kids all the time in the real world. And the game at least gives Sean a chance to give her a piece of his mind, though in my playthrough I also had him reconnect with her as this felt like what 'my' version of him would do. I get the impression that the writers try to consciously avoid simple good vs evil characterisation.

Much respect to the developers for not shirking from how consistent racism is - you get the Grandma Claires, who dodge & imply; the "oshit, SERIOUSLY?" Brodies who are legit allies; blatant racists ignorant of their own hypocrisy (your "property" is stolen land, white dude); your anonymous "i saw a brown person in my all-white neighbourhood: better call the cops". It's a little sad that the treatment Sean gets is considered surprising but, like, I think this game was released pre-BLM? I hope Sean & Daniel get another game, more in line with True Colours, where Sean can find a cute boyfriend who DOESN'T want to use his kid brother to make bank, and the wolf brothers aren't the only latinx around.

That was incredibly emotionally draining to watch, I applaud you guys continuously doing this playthrough on camera. I do have just one thing to say about the encounter in the church: I don't think the choice was between killing a woman and being just as bad as the cult. Sean attempted to diffuse the situation himself (albeit quite violently initially), but he conceded before blood was spilt. Lizabeth would not have done that and doubtless Daniel has seen her be quite merciless. As such Sean choosing to spare her and ask Daniel for help shows to Daniel that he can trust Sean to make the responsible decision. To me that moment perfectly contrasted Lizabeth's intentions to use Daniel for her own means and Sean's need to keep Daniel safe while also acknowledging that his powers can sometimes be used to help rather than hurt.

The legal aspect still bothers me. I mean, sure, the police are solid on opportunity, Sean was there, undeniably, both at the death of an officer of the law and in the shack of a grower of drugs. Motive for the cop, sure, since he had just SHOT SEAN'S UNARMED FATHER which would upset most people just a tad. But they're utterly boned when it comes to means. An explosion that leaves not the slightest trace of chemicals but is powerful enough to throw a grown man 15 to 20 feet through the air and flip a car onto its roof (I think) plus assorted damage in the street, but that also leaves the father's corpse and an injured bully untouched on the ground and that the brothers walked away from? Likewise at the shack, a mysterious force happened, sure, but since the police cannot even say _what_ it was there is no way in hell they can charge someone with using it maliciously! A shadowy quasi-govenmental agency that want to weaponise whoever can do that sort of thing, as cliche as it might be, would make a more genuinely logical antagonist in this case.

I like seing white people being put in perspective of absolutely unfair and racist situation that blows their mind. I just sang the song cause I knew it was easiest. POC have learnt to put their security before their pride. I like the game and its political message. You played well.

What was the song? Because as a Hispanic person my gut instinct was sing but sing something like This Land Is Our Land

So that's the letter you get for not having the sexytimes with Cassidy. The letter from her in my playthrough was a more positive one given how close a relationship I'd developed with her.

You were far nicer to Karen than she deserved. I would have taken the whatever option first chance i was given, she has no regrets for her mistakes (you and daniel seemingly among them) and seems ready to bail again first chance she gets. Leaving a 16 year old who's been through too much to look after a 10 year old wrecking ball on his own. Again. Shes awful.

I wondered what was going to happen, the video usually appears almost straight after release and I wondered if they had stopped it. That would have been gutting to me saying as the original lis is how I came to find eurogamer in the first place.

Is it just me or has both episodes 3 and 4 been a complete railroad? The first two episodes it's all about Sean and Daniel's relationship but then in 3 that is all out the window because of thing that happened in between. It seems to be the same in this episode everything to do with Sean and Daniel is out of your control until the end and even then what you did in the last 3 episodes has no effect.

As horrible as that racist scene is, and as much as I don’t want to bring politics into everyone’s video games, honestly that’s how it is in current day America, unfortunately. It’s absolutely horrendous, disgusting and abhorrent, but it’s the reality, unfortunately. I love games, video or tabletop (looking at you, Mr. Dicebreaker!), and I use them to escape, and I honestly don’t think I can play this game currently, with how the state of things are today, I see it enough in day to day life. But hopefully I’ll be able to play this game eventually when everything isn’t so goddamn racist. Anyway, sorry for the downer comment, love to see the Dark Souls duo back on the sofa! Love you two!

Well. It's pretty much a line where some people are good and the other half have a lot more bad then good but we still have hope and as someone who lives on the border line between CA and NV it's different when you don't look for the bad it's like the trucker and the racists we have good but bad has a way of covering it up it's bad but looking for it makes it worse

God, guys, not everything's a hard choice. You act like there's never an opportunity to get out if you climb in a truck with some guy who turns out to be a creep. I hope this isn't how you make decisions in life. You're more paralyzed with indecision than Chidi in the Good Place.

I sure do miss Johnny on Eurogamer. I know he likes board and pen and paper games, but Johnny's takes on video games and the let's plays with Aoife are still the gold standard. I have watched a few of the Dicebreaker videos but I'm not one who finds board games compelling. If they do more stuff like the Ox crew D&D or other pen and paper stuff, then it will be much more interesting for me anyway. I would like to see Johnny do something akin to the Critical Roll channel, with long campaigns and a highly fleshed out story. That I could get into, but it would be a lot of work for poor Johnny I think. It is great he returned to do the next LIS2 chapter, and it will be nice to see Johnny' and Aoife's takes on this chapter.

SPOILER about what you said about the ending possibilities: That isn't quite correct... Asking Daniel the first time will give you the same ending that you got. Unless you were a bad brother, in which case Daniel won't listen to you and will just kill her.
