this was such a good game. not only because of magic itself but also because microprose managed to embed the actual card game inside of some sort of planeswalker game. awesome! it is really a shame that no one ever tried to go for a remake or at least do something similar.

this is how i got into magic summer of 2003ish, somehow downloaded the video game became a mtg master and then when i went back to school a few friends picked up the card game which blew my mind. dint know it was a card game.

I like this game, I'm playing it every once in a while and whenever I'm playing it I'm trying to enjoy the content and try out different card combos and make control decks. So far my favourite deck color is black + blue.

I remember this game had an ability that let you violate the "max 4 cards" rule in a deck. I collected as many black vises and dark rituals as I could. First turn, three black vises. With the low health, the 9 damage the opponent took at the start of their first turn would usually kill them.

Cvetelin Choraliev yeah. This game is super enjoyable. Shame there are no plans to make a spiritual successor. I believe there was another MTG game made around the same time which had its own take on the cardgame

I remember my dad used to play this all the time. I once tried to get it going on his current laptop using a virtualized Win98 install on some version of VirtualPC, but it ran like crap :P I'm going to give it another shot one of these days with Virtualbox or something instead, though I'll have to find a way to somehow atleast emulate an SVGA card.

Haha. I think there's some modders who made this game playable on more recent installments of windows. I can't blame them; I like the "story" driven RPG aspect they put in this game way more than the newer, plain battle mode of play in the newer games.

actually it allows you to be able to use 4 copies. it starts with you only able to use up to 3 non-basic land cards until you get that power up. then you can use 4.

I believe there's a download available which is specifically compatible with newer operating systems. I wouldn't be surprised if this works for 7 as well.

very true. the wizard AI kept attacking with an Ornathopter/HolySTR every turn even though it left him with not enough blockers. i kept attacking with 3 1/1 creatures and his other 2 ornathopters would block but not kill. so he would take 1 damage every turn. i was ahead by 15 life so each of us doing 1 damage a turn i would win. if he stopped attacking with his Orn/HolySTR he would have a blocker that prevented me from attacking. that is a pretty basic thing that the AI couldnt handle correctly

Correct. I do think the AI is not smart enough to use it on higher difficulties though. I'm playing off screen on Wizard difficulty and the AI is still making questionable decisions.

I must admit I looked around a bit, but can't really find it anymore. It's not on GOG unfortunately either. I believe this was recorded on Win7, so not sure if it would work on Win10.

go into the deck manager, and you have to drag and drop the cards from your collection into your deck.

i found it pretty easily one day. just google it. you have to download the manalink too. i think its 3.0 then just unzip the files. when you install just make sure that you change the path directly to c:\magic otherwise the manalink will not find the correct path and the game will not run properly.

I'm trying for days now to get the animations working when you beat one of the wizards (18.47) ... i tried turning it on every time.. can you please help? got win7 64bit, Magic the Gathering 2009 Edition... so bothring not to see them wizards annoyed and the part where they are killed :(

Where can I find the latest version of the 97' release Magic The Gathering? I really want to replay the overhead strategy based version rather than the newest editions which have no overhead strategy element..... I wanna run around and avoid dragons and shit. :)

A google search may find you spots. Unfortunately, it seems to be rather difficult to run it on the more modern 64bit OS'es. When I recorded this, I was using 32bit Vista. I'd have to try again if it works on Win8 still.

i finally beat the game (on apprentice) in less than an hour! everyone can beat this game, but challenge yourself to do a "speed run" on it. less than an hour in REAL TIME, not game time

Unless a dosbox works, it may be better to get your hands on an ancient PC and install it there (and other games Windows 8 no longer supports)

Works fine on Windows XP via Hyper-V (w/o sound for me tho) or VirtualBox (w/sound). Docker on Windows needs Hyper-V though, and you need to pick either, so... anyway, not missing the sound tbh

I wish I knew a way. Probably even Gog.com has not been able to get the rights to make the game compatible on modern OS'es. When I played this when I was still running Vista, I had to run it through a DOSbox. This is exaqctly the reason I'm hoping for a remake of this game ;D It needs one!

the game lack many mechanic of cards and just ignorres the effect of a card and its very annoying so the advance card becomes worthless, so if i would play this game i would only use cards i know will be played the right way, or i would use untap it where a person knows what a card can do and play the the right way, i wish that they would correct this game
