I bought the game when it was originally released, so I been around a while. I don't have a set strategy, I just like to play as the lizard guy cause of the turtles :) I like the floating island spell so i can go boating without boats early. I just like the game , it was like playing original civilization but with magic. It looks like the old civilization game too.

Wait, so you pack lizards into a floating island? When lizards all have amphibious movement? Now if you were to say you like Windwalker, I would whole-heartedly agree. But floating islands are kind of a bad way of getting around. They're slow, they're helpless, and they cost more mana to maintain than most mid-tier summoned creatures. They work really well at one thing: creating a temporary boat to avoid waiting for one to arrive.

I usually trade arcane spells away for spells of the other magic realms that are not in my research list whenever I have the opportunity, as every wizard will eventually learn them anyway.

1.52 is much more challenging and the version that I prefer, although I understand your reasoning to play the version you played in the "old days". I play a similar strategy often and one thing that I've found is that I gladly trade the enemy AI combat summons such as phantom warriors. They are easy targets for hero's and make even most battles turn out to end up giving you 1 fame due them summoning the easily killed combat summons. I also find that earth lore is too big a drain on mana when I'm trying to build it up to bank enough to make my first amulet of flight. I usually take 2 chaos books instead of 2 earth books, though I've done both. Preference for chaos due to hell hounds getting me an early node and the ability to put flaming ability on weapon artifacts. I also prefer just cause to heroism for the life spell pick. Getting an early hero like Morgana, Malleus, Shalla are sure wins. Even Jaer often shows up with arcane power. Shalla has won me many games. Tauron one of my most hated enemies, the corruption and raise volcano frustrate me. First hero usually has to go eliminate such a wizard.

Does anyone know which version gives Trolls access to the Alchemist tower that gives magic weapons? Ive been playing since it was released on DOS

I never heard of that, but I know they get em with the Alchemy retort. It is kind of a shame. Maybe there should be some kind of trick to it - like get em killed and regenerate on top of a tile of Mithril or Adamantium, and their dead bodies will absorb the magic of the land as they come back to life :)

Hm, I consider "not doing Runemaster + Artifact combo" to be part of "the most difficult challenge" myself :P No 11 books either!

@@kingghidorah6063 Why do you want chaos channels? Flight in a hero strat is covered by 3 sorcery books, and it's easy enough to soup up the heroes' attack and defenses via artifacts. Although the fire weapon is pretty nice. I'll tell you what, though. If you can get 5 chaos books for armor piercing, man that is hot stuff. But with both these retorts that means only 2 books in your other schools. I just really want the Lionheart and True Sight enchantments. But sadly you can't get those with both retorts unless you loot a life book somewhere.

@@Nurk0m0rath I like to use chaos channels on my heroes , and for some reason I rarely get access to flight , and flight has expensive maintenance

@@kingghidorah6063 I mean that with 3 sorcery books you can drop flight on an item without researching the spell. It's not even that expensive; it can fit on a normal item.

You are trading for the wrong spells, and trading out the wrong ones, too. When possible, always give the computer arcane spells. They are already all in its spellbook, so you are not increasing the number of spells it will get, once it maxes out... so that is a zero sum gain for the computer... Don't worry about trading it create artifact... it doesn't ever make them, in most versions of this game. I've never seen it use this to full potential... so don't worry. Meanwhile, never trade FOR an arcane spell (eg summoning circle), unless it is to prevent imminent catastrophe... After all, you ALREADY HAVE THEM ALL IN YOUR SPELL BOOK... So you get more total spells, end game, if you NEVER trade for arcane spells.

Okay...when does he trade for an Arcane spell in this video? And he's not saying he'll never give them create artifact, just that its research cost is similar to a low tier rare spell so he might be able to get something better for it.

The website I play on only has 1.31. I do like matching what I played back in the day.
