Hey, I'm a housekeeper at a hotel, and I wouldn't say it's "rude" exactly, but it is a huge pain in the ass for the housekeepers when none of the rooms on your list to clean have checked out, and you just have to sit and listen at the door and make a guess to see if the person's left yet. What's RUDE is when you leave without checking out, and then also leave the Do Not Disturb on your door. That's some hardcore annoying

What I love about Jeremy is how mischievous he is. Instead of getting revenge by killing or spitting insults, he just does something to make something as inconvenient or burdensome as possible, whether small or large, for whoever he's getting back at.

because Gav asked for it: I am a housekeeper at a hotel and although I have 8 hr shifts, I actually can't go home until all my rooms are cleaned. If you check out, the desk tells me that your room is empty and I can clean it. Some days no one officially checks out, and so we can't start until after 12. It's impossible to clean all the rooms in just 4 hours, and we'll often be overtime. Its essentially a huge waste of the cleaners' time and we really appreciate if you can take the time to say you're leaving

I worked in a hotel for about a year, it doesn't really matter if you check out or not. At 11 we just click a few buttons and it drops the rest that didn't drop off their keys out of the system, usually 60-70% give back the keys. P.S. Dobby gave the gillyweed to Harry because he overheard a staged conversation between the fake Moody and the Herbology professor. He knew Harry hadn't solved how to complete the challenge and needed to get him thru it, fake Moody made sure the elf was close by when he asked the other professor if she thought anyone would think of using gillyweed, Dobby heard this and wanted to help Harry so he stole it to give to Harry. P.S.S. Ron was pissed with Harry until the 1st challenge and the one with gillyweed was the 2nd. The part he helps Harry while still pissed at him is for the 1st task when he tells him to meet Hegrid. Hegrid wanted to show Harry the dragons, he just passed the meet Hegrid message and Ron didn't know about this until later. P.S.S.S. Sorry for the lengthy message, I just wanted to help.... P.S.S.S.S. I'll stop now..... Sorry again..

as someone who's does housekeeping during summer term, people checking out helps a ton. housekeeping staff usually doesn't have much time at all to finish their work and having that extra time to clean before checkout is really really useful.

I work at a hotel and I will say that I really appreciate it when a guest formally checks out. When they do that it allows the housekeeper to clean the room asap. Then the next guests can check in early. A lot of times my housekeeper will come and there will be no checkouts yet. We are required to wait until checkout time to knock on doors, but find they left earlier that morning while the housekeeper could have got a head start but was twiddling her thumbs instead. It just makes it better for everyone :)

To answer Gavin's question about checking out of a hotel. Ryan is completely right . It just helps the hotel know that the room is vacant, that way housekeeping can clean it sooner for the next guest. So if you walk by the front desk on your way out just throw them your keys. You don't even need to say you are leaving. We will probably just assume you are and know what room you were in based on your keys. Takes like 5 seconds Geoff and Gavin and is helpful.
